I fished the 441 (SR7) canal today for about 45 minutes before work. I caught 4 Peacocks and this was the biggest, about 3 pounds. You will notice the lure I used to cath them is a Rapala minnow. The same size and kind as the Rapla I sent out for the BR Lure Fun season 1, except this one is black over silver. The air temp was in the mid 60's and I don't know what the water temp was. I had one bigger than this one folow the lure up to the bank and swipe at it but couldn't get a hook set.

These Peacocks are some good fighters. Much more so than regular bass, LMB anyways. Never caught a smally to compare them to.

very nice bud.    gotta love that fla. weather.  i was wearing about 6 layers of clothes and gloves too and i still got cold today.  glad to see you're gettin' out and catchin' a few.  i wish they had those peacocks around here.

Very nice.  I wish I had some to catch.  If you are ever in my neck of the woods in the spring or summer, I'll get you into some SM so you can have a comparison.

Nice fish! My local lake has a decent population of Peacocks and I'm hitting it this weekend  ;D

I'm hoping to work the LMB in the AM and then switch over to Peacock later in the day.

I went Peacock fishing last weekend at Lake Ida in Delray Beach. Peacocks are so much fun to catch. They are a bit of a pain in the but when you get them out of the water because they will never stop fighting, even outside the water. You put your thumb in their mouth to open it, and they will keep twitching. Congrats!

Wish those guys were here where I fish.  Good catch.

I think all the Forida peacock bass are Butterfly peacocks.  Here's one I caught just a few days ago about 18"  4+ lbs.  Bassin,  I havn't fished those canals yet, but I have heard good things about the peacocks population in them.

Dude, tell me about it. I'm dying for some decent fishing up here. I haven't figured any of the areas out yet and it's not like West Palm where there are 1,000,000 lakes in a 3 mile radius.

I was fishing with some buddies at lake ida last wednesday, caught a few lm.

Amazing colors on those fish, never had the chance to catch one. None around here. I might have to look in to taking a trip to Florida to fish their canals for them.

i fish the 441 canals often and never had any luck catching peas north of boynton beach blvd, have caught quite a few in the canal behind my home ( hagen ranch and lake ida rd),biggest maybe 3lbs. i 've caught many smb and for me i'd opt for the peacock anytime.

This one came north of Boynton.  I get them up to Southern Blvd too.

after a while those fish become boring IMO. they beat the heck out of your baits and they are too easy to catch. not that i won't catch them, but i prefer lm waaaaaay better.

tand, i say they are too east to catch, because they are too easy to catch. 9 times out of 10 if you see one you can catch it. all you have to do is tick it off enough, and it will hit anything. i also don't like how they beat your baits and hand up. and 90% of every peacock i have caught over 3 pounds, it is a MUST that you use pliers or you will be digging hooks out of your hand. don't get me wrong, i will still catch them, but i just don't target them specifically. next time you ar down this way i will take you to a little lake by my sister in laws house, and you will get your fill REAL quick.

I agree with you Boca but I just can't resist catching them.  They fight pretty good.  I'll probably get tired of them after the Peacock madness wears off.  It's still new to me.

this is just kinda funny reading this.  "too easy to catch" is definitely a characteristic i would like in ANY fish.  i don't know that i could ever tire of that.  catch one or two or twenty peacocks for me bb.    

Peacock vs largemouth..........no comparison, give me the peacock any time.  there are about 4 species in the amazon and some go over 20 lbs.  my buddy was down there catcing them on fly rod.

i want to try barramundi in central florida, hear they are awesome.
