What a weekend marathon...

It's a tale of excess, gluttony, debauchery and exhaustion.

Jimzee showed up Friday afternoon.  Had dinner, then headed to the lake for a 8PM-8AM wildcat tourney at Boone.  Stopped on the way for the midnight snack.

Hit my usual spots up the Watauga side, got a few bites but didn't put anything in the boat.  Hit a couple of spots three or four times over the course of the night.

Jimzee finally put a keeper in the boat around 4AM.  Picked up a couple of shorts here and there, then headed back to my favorite creek to give it one last shot at daylight.  Threw a jig in around a dock, saw the hit as the jig fell, just didn't get a good hookset.  Fish was on for just a couple of seconds, solid 2-3 lb. keeper.  Picked up a keeper spot on the other side of the dock.

By that time, we had about 45 minutes left in the morning, I was out of gas (not the boat) and we only had about 3.5-4 lbs.  So we tossed the fish and ran back to the ramp to beat the tourney traffic.

Heard from a friend on Saturday that it took 12 lbs. to win, so we didn't miss much.  That's Boone!

Got up Saturday afternoon, picked up Tom and headed back to Boone.  Stopped by The Purple Cow on the way to intimidate Jimzee with the 1 lb. Mike's Intimidator burger.  Needless to say, after about 3/4 of the burger he was hurting.

Headed down to the dam to start the night.  Picked up a quick one.

Worked down the bank, then my gut started barking.  Not many public facilities on the lake, so I've got a couple of little spots for those times that privacy is needed.   ;)

We were there, so we fished for a bit.  Someone fell off the boat, but I'll let that story go for another day.

Moved across the creek, pulled the jig over a rock, then it got hammered.  Jimzee almost lost the net in the lake when getting it out of the locker, then burned his knees on the carpet.  Couldn't tell what I had, but it was big.  Saw a brown back and thought I had a huge smallmouth, but it just ended up being 6 lbs. of this...

After that we moved here and there, just couldn't get into any fish.  Decided to hit one or two more spots and then head home.  Hit Airport Holler, picked up this monstrosity...

Ran back down to TVA Holler, then Jimzee decided to get the skunk off.

Put the boat on the trailer, something didn't seem right.  Pulled out, checked the back, I'm missing a bunk board.  Lag bolts fell out.  We managed to get the board secured with electrical tape.  Made for a crappy end to the night.

After a long sleep, everyone was still exhausted.  Decided to hit Bark Camp for a few hours to finish the weekend.  Lake was pretty crappy as the coontail was floating everywhere.

We did pick up a few Bark Camp bruisers, but it was a short night.

All in all not as exhausting as the 2009 Central WV Fishing Marathon, but it still kicked my butt.  I would just like to know where Jimzee puts it all.   :o

We should have had a quick call up Dinkmasters with Blaine in since you went to Bark Camp.  Glad he got to try the intimidator also.

w t f? Didn't you get a burger for Tom, too?

Do I spy a Pal's in the first pic?

Sounds like a good time, once again.

Did you guys get to talk about a "WV Fall Ball?"

  • Super User

That would definitely be Pal's.  That Intimidator nearly killed me!!  I eat so much this past weekend, just look at that gut would you.

Wayne, I am going to try and organize something late September, early October.  The crank bite is usually in full swing by then, along with some fatties in the brush.

I had a great time this weekend guys, if only Burley wouldn't force feed me so much... ;D

Sometime in September is going to be better for me.  Archery season starts here in the beginning of October.  Gotta get my money's worth.   ;D

Apparently Burley has placed a Hansen type ritual on his new boat ala Deadliest Catch.  Tom must have drawn the short straw.

1 lb. of beef on a 9.5" bun.  Only $5.99 at Purple Cow. It's called the Mike's Intimidator.

If we end up doing another marathon in September, I'm gonna need one of those.

No lettuce, no tomato..... ;D

That's a smallmouth just like every other smallmouth.
