Finally beat my PB smallie (twice) today

Got out for a couple hours to the non-frozen section of the river today, and the bass cooperated just fine. It was sunny, 31 degrees, with a stiff 10-15mph wind, but I got on 'em pretty good anyway. Landed 11 smallmouth, and 4 largemouths. The smallies were sitting on rocky points, and feeding on baitfish, while the largemouths were a bit deeper in the channel, and feeding on the bottom, but not as aggressively. All my smallmouths came by slowly swimming a Smokin Rooster on a keel weighted hook, and the few largies came on a black and blue jig with Baby Craw. My previous PB smallie was 4-5, and today I got on a 4-6, and then a whopper 5-6! I was pretty much pumped to say the least!

Here's the 4-6

It was a great day! I'm pretty jealous of you guys that get on 5lb+ smallies regularly. These fish fight like beasts!

WTG Shane! That 5-6 smallie is a beast for your area considering it came out of a river & time of year.

Awesome! I have cabin fever so bad...

that and the baitmonkey is making me go broke!

Nice job Shane.

Can't ask for more than that. What a way to start the new year.

Must be nice, open water in Feb in NH and you gotta love that no closed season on bass there.

Congrats

:D

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, good thing there's no closed bass season here, or else I would move! That section of the river is about the only open water in the state that I can get my boat into. In a few more weeks, I'm going to de-winterize the bass boat, and really tear it up!

Congrat's!

Congrats on the catches.  That pig makes me want to go get a new set of scales.

Those are some nice-looking smallies, Shane!  Congratulations.

Nope, the one I'm holding up by my face is a 3 1/2lb bass. The one that says 5-6 above it was 5lbs, 6oz. Period, and I could seriously care less who believes that or not. This is why I don't post in this section.

As long as you know the truth , it doesn't matter what others say. Don't let them stop you from posting what you want to.

Keep the pics coming Shane!    :)

2 PB's in one day!!  I *** you brother, NICE!!!!  Keep posting man, like you stated who cares what others say, I personally enjoy seeing others pictures regardless of what they say the fish weighs.

Shane these are nice smallmouths. Not everyone has the opportunity to catch smallies. Certainly not in such adverse conditions regardless of the weight I feel this is a great accomplishment. It is funny I have had guides show me how to take a photo of catches so they appear to look larger. They do this so they can use them for their websites with no claim of weight. Can not blame them they need to make a living. It is obvious that a photo does not represent the true weight, sometimes even a scale, heck I went a whole year one time using a scale that read 6 oz light. In the end I had a better year then I thought. The joy is in the hunt and catch unless you are looking to cash a check. Keep em coming and stay warm.

Man I need to catch some of those Big Brown Bruisers... U Da Man Shane and Congratulations on that new PB
