Do you like to fish more in cover or over structure along the bottom? Most of the largemouth I have caught this year have been over bumps and depressions on the bottom of the lake.

Structure, structure structure. At least for big bass hunters.

Cover is more obvious and a great learning place but will always hold more numbers of smaller fish (in general, not saying a log won't hold a hog,lol)

I'm all about structure in deep water, that's where the big girls live.

Cover associated with bottom structure.  Hang-on.

My personal preference,stumps in deeper water that's on top of a point,hump,or ledge.So I choose both.

Really,the places I've caught big were relating to some sort of structure.

When I lived in the south cover mainly because it held more fish but if structure was available it always held a better fish. Up north structure is the way to go.

Structure first, then cover for the numbers if I need 5 quick...lol

I'm in agreement with the other posts. Structure is always better for the bigger fish!

I usally fish cover because it is easier to find when fishing from the bank.

Whats structure? ;D  Seriously, where I fish here in SE Florida there is no such thing as structure.  The lakes are full of weeds but no bottom features at all.  The canals are just huge ditches.  The only structure you find is where the hurricanes blew someones deck into the water.

Times for both, as mentioned above, but I will take structure for the thread because of quality fish opportunities.

I like fishing them both, but like Mike Harte said, I fish cover more often because I fish from shore a lot and from a canoe without electronics.  When I do get in a boat with electronics though, I usually focus on structure.

Well I live in southwest Florida and the places I fish are mainly cover. The only structure I ever fish Is the Kissimmee River but I only fish thier every once in a while. 90 percent of the places I fish are 1-8 feet deep.

Well where I was before moving to Bull Shoals Lake it was about 25% cover and 75% structure. On Bull Shoals there is no grass, lily pads, or other cover. There is only structure.

I don't often fish "deep" structure for largemouth, most of the lakes I fish up north here are natural lakes. The largemouth are found relativly shallow (less than 15 feet) year round. During the prime fishing months around here ( late april-late oct) the largemouth will be in and around weed lines, docks, laydowns, and other types of cover. The best types of cover often are close to spawning grounds. That beeing said, any of these types of cover that are near OR have struture within them are the best spots. The deep structure areas around here are home to Pike, walleye, and smallmouth, and I rarely fish for those species. There are a few lakes and many ponds around here that largemouth are the primary preditor, in those bodys I will explore the deep structure.

Well find those decks that have been there awile it don't take long for Bass to start hangin around.

Both structure and cover are very important, but which is more important

depends on the species and on the season.

For smallmouth bass and walleyes, structure is more vital than cover all year-round.

For largemouth bass and chain pickerel during the winter, structure is more important than cover.

For largemouth bass and chain pickerel during spring, summer and fall, "weeds" are more important

than structure. In fact, in my home lake in Florida there ain't no structure...can you say saucer?

They grow fat and sassy in the overheated shallows, but if you took away thier weeds, they'd CRY!

It's the same thing in Canada, largemouth bass are buried in the weedy flats all summer long.

Again, both are very important, but I'm just trying to isolate the most important.
