Will She Be Caught Again?

Featured Replies

You know what I'm talking about! I thought a straight up yes/no poll would be cool. Forget about weight or records.

If there is one that had all the conditions right to grow that big there is another. With the same bass bite again yes if you hit it right (at night) and if the fish went back to its bed.

Yes but i dont c this happening in 2k6

Yes, but it will be someone who is out there right when the park opens. That way they can work the fish all day long.

I think we were lucky to see her once, but we've apparently seen her twice.

She's a legend in her own time, but she's not immortal. I voted NO

My understanding is that this fish has not been since she was caught on 3/20. She was full of eggs and put under tremendous stress. She was pretty old to begin with. I don't think she will live to spawn again.

I just heard a 21+ lber was caught yesterday in San Diego............................details have been promised later :-/

Any ways to answer the question of has anybody seen it YES it hung around the same bed but was never much more than a big dark shadow. It was a zoo. Guys had their aquviews and were all over the place. The fish will probably spawn at night or do it deep. The recent events will not kill that fish if it dies its because it is old. Acording to Mike Long who took scale samples when he caught it it is 16-17 years old.

A big fish will be caught in March 2007 on the beds in Cali. Will it be the same one? As long as she was able to recover from the stress of being caught last year. I think so.

Even if she's not dead already, which is possible due to stress, I still don't think she'll fall again.

with proper selective harvesting and stocking systems, I beleive that soon fish that will become more and more average. We live in an era where science is fishing!

I don 't see any reason why it can 't be caught again, the difficult part is ............ being there at the moment she does something stoopid.  :-/

That's funny!! True, but funny!

I voted no.

I have fished the SD lake chain when I lived in Poway, SD. All that catch did was give the owner of the concession there a whole bunch of free advertising.

As for the bass going back to the bed I don't think so, It was caught then moved to the middle of the lake on a stringer (very stressful you do know you can drown a bass that way) while they had their private meeting on what to do with an illegal fish, then dragged back to the dock where we all got to see the fish as it hung from a scale.

Then it was released back into the water, and was watched as it slowly swam away. The bed wasn't that far from the dock, it is going to be very busy on that dock with all the anglers trying to find and maybe even get a shot at her.

I don't think that, she will even finish her spawn she will probably abort her eggs after all that handling (and at her age that could kill her). I do know the anglers that caught her, and do know their technique of mouth snagging with jigs. I learned it in the 80's on lake Poway trying to snag bedding fish up on that 80 acre reservoir. I have even seen the action take place on Hodges.

So no I don't think it will be caught again........Unless someone there jumps the fence after dark locates and poches her on the other side of the lake (if she lives).

Just my .02¢

Thanks ReelMech for confirming my suspicions.

With all due respect guys...I didn't want this to become another discussion about the "snagging" or how the situation was handled. It's just a poll to see if she will be caught again. Nothing else. If someone wants to start a new poll or topic about the "snagging" be my guest. Don't get me wrong, anyone can post whatever they like. It's just not the reason I started the poll.

I think its impossible to know if she will be caught again. Its possible that she died or will die from the stress of the release. Its also possible that she will get caught again if the right lure passes by her nose. Anyone thats ever fished a small pond knows that you can catch the same fish over and over through out its life. I dont think they're as smart as alot of people give them credit for ;D

Thanks for your input reelmech.  We could have used you in a couple other threads, your thoughts probably would have shortened them a bit.  ;)

Roger and Dan I know some of the details about the other big fish caught but I cant say anything yet. Just be patient.

All you other guys, well I knows its only my opinion but That fish is still alive. It has been spotted and is fine. They didnt take it to the middle of lake. They took it far enough away to talk in private. Then they went ack to the dock. the fish was caught very close to the dock and the total amount of traveling was very little. If the fish does dye it would probably be in the summer but as of right now its fine. It has been caught 3 times in 6 years so maybe in 08 when she's 27lbs.

I have seen the pictures every time she has been caught and there is no doubt its the same fish. Thats why her name is Poka dot

bass of this caliber are not dumb and the only reason they caught it in the first place was because they snagged it.  i think there is no way that this bass will be caught again. even if it is it will have lost quite a bit of weight after the spawn.

Reelmech,

Just because they know how to snag a fish doesn't mean they did. I know how to hot wire a car but when I need a ride, I still call a cab.

Suggesting they snagged this fish just because they know how would be like suggesting you snag all your jig fish because you also know how. See how silly this can become?

I mean no disrespect here, just trying to illustrate how crazy we can get.

From the opinions on these threads it seems no one has ever hooked a fish outside the mouth, I must really suck as a fisherman because I actually do hook a fish outside the mouth on occasion.... by accident. :-/

Sorry to drift off topic Roger (and Mods) but reading these threads is kind of like watching a "drive by."
