Do you trim your jig skirts?  If so, how long past the hook do you leave it?

Do you think it has really made a difference?

I trim the skirts on all my jigs, but I only trim some of the strands, not all of them.  I think the bass hit it more when the strands of the skirt aren't all the same length.

I trim my skirts fairly close to the hook and I also trim down the brush guard.

I usually leave them alone, unless I'm on the water and the skirt I'm using gets funky or I want to mess with the bulk.  Its important to note, I use some pretty high end jigs, and trimming isn't usually necessary.

It all depends on the presentation I want and the jig I'm fishing. Sometimes I trim them to as short as one inch. My favorite jig has a skirt that extends three inches beyond the hook and I never trim it.

for me it really depends on the trailer and profile I'm trying to present. And also the skirts and/or jigs of course.

On my homeade jigs I didn't have to trim a bunch with the skirt material I used.....Some pre-made skirts need to be trimmed quite a bit (for my use)

I'm what I call a middle of the road jig fisherman. Or power finesse. I don't flip, I don't use 1/2oz or bigger jigs, I don't use heavy line.

I also don't use 1/8oz jigs, spinning rods, or light line.

I really don't see any need to trim the weedguard. At least on all the jigs I've used it just isn't necessary. And I've NEVER had a hook up problem.

X2---I feel trimming the skirt back gives your trailer more room to work it's magic.  I trim the brush guards too, not sure if it makes a difference with hook-ups, but I have too much confidence in it to throw a jig without trimming it first.

most of the time I trim them 1/4-1/2 past the hook.  Why.  Got no clue. :-?

Then why don't you make them that way?

I figured you designed the jig exactly the

way you fished 'em. I may have to re-consider

I leave the skirts alone. I do trim the weedguard to a point where it is still above the hook but when you collapse it it does not touch the hook. Still weedless and as FS01 said, Confidence Thing!
