Every time I go into a tackle shop I find some more plastics I can't live without. I could probably go ten years before I use up what I have but I still keep buying new bags. Whats that all about??   :o

I got the same problem. The baitmonkey keeps naggin me every time I see a pack I dont have...."You gotta get that....or else!!!!"

I think it has something to do with men being the hunter/gatherer types.  I do the same thing all the time.  I could probably go several years and not have to buy another plastic bait again if I used just what I have acquired.

I have the same problem. Just like a kid in a candy store.

I've got enough plastics for several people for several years but if I see a 'deal', I'm buying, no questions asked. And a lot of times it doesn't even have to qualify as a 'deal'. It just happens.

Gander Mtn happened twice in the past 5 days. Friday I was in there as they were dumping fresh stuff into the 6 huge clearance bins. I didnt need any of it but ended up at the cash register with a bucket full of stuff. Went back yesterday to see if I had missed any of the Sworming Hornet heads and ended up with another bucket full at the register, with no more Hornet heads in it.

It is a mental illness.

All of us have it.

Some of us collect rods while others collect plastics.

We can't help ourselves.

We just got to do what we got to do and all we got to do is enough.  ;D

I am able to contain the bait monkey on plastics, but I have a REAL hard time passing up crankbaits---The monkey seems to get very loud when he sees those things!!!  I think he likes the cool paint jobs

You know you have solidly hit rock bottom when you have bags and more bags of soft plastics and a bottle of Mend it to glue back that fluke you 've been killing them on for the past three weeks.

Now that 's sad !

I dont buy as many soft plastics anymore, I used to get every new bait

1. Try and limit yourself to 3 colors per bait. Some times 2. Usually a black, watermelon or pumpkin, and some other color I just like.

2. Keep your baits in plano 3700 boxes. Only use a box for each type of baits. I have a worm/lizard box, a creature/other box, finesse box, jighead box (grubs, smallie baits) and fluke senko box. I have a few plastics I keep in the package and put in the pockets of my tackle bag if I need them. 10in worms, frogs, finesse worms, maybe 20 packs I can add or subtract depending on where I am going.

3. Before you buy a bait ask yourself do I have another like it. You dont need every brand of tube, ribbontail, crawfish ect. You can experiment but stick with the brands you like, here are mine.

Senkos-Senkos, Yum

and a few odd creature baits

It works for me a new bait I am trying has to prove itself before it replaces something in the box. But I still have flexibility to bring baits I might need on certain trips like frogs, 7in senkos and extra shakey head worms. It works for me anyway.

I guess we all have our fishing poison/addiction.  I would suggest that somebody do their PhD dissertation on the baitmonkey phenomenon except academia sucks all the life and joy out of everything.  It matters less that your dissertation is boring than if you followed APA guidelines correctly.

I have it so bad that my friends call me the bait monkey or at least a close relation. Crankbaits or soft plastics I can never pass up a deal.

I for one have developed a perfectly good logical answer as to why I am starting my soft plastic bait collection. My little girl loves to play with them. Especially lizards and frogs. I buy a pack and give her one. It keeps her happy for about 10-20 minutes.

That is money well spent in my opinion. All you need is a 4 year old!  ;D

No doubt.  My two kids (younger than yours) LOVES to play with them.  They get the frogs, craws, lizards, brush hogs, etc all lined up.  They could play with those things for an hour.  I organize most of my tackle while they play with the "extras".
