Featured Replies

OK here's the plan

you meet a new guy at the lake who has never fished before in his life, but he wants to get started so he asked you to suggest some lures he should get and in what color

You can suggest

one top water

one crankbait

one spinnerbait

one Jig

and two soft plastics

What would you suggest?

Here is mine

Top water- Booyah buzz bait- white, 1/2 ounce

Crankbait- Cordell spot- red craw, 1/2 ounce

Spinnerbait- Booyah spinner bait with double willow blades-white,1/2 ounce

Jig- I don't use jigs enough to suggest any but I knew some of you guys would  :)

Plastics-Big bites single tail grub-4 in,white

Zooms trick worm, green pumpkin, 7in

Top - Lucky Craft Gunfish - Aurora Black

Crank - Norman Deep Little N - Chrome / Blue back

Spinner - Booyah 3/8 ounce white w/ Chrome colorado/willow blades

1/2 Buckeye Mop Jig - Brown w/ Bama Bug Paca Craw trailer

Plastics - Zoom Trick Worm - Watermelon/Red and Zoom Lizard - Watermelon/Red

top water- Lunker Lure black buzzbait w/silver blade

crankbait- Bomber fat free shad or a square bill bomber if you dont plan on getting deep with it.....lol(both either in firetiger or white w/black back.

spinnerbait- bleeding chartruese 1/2 ounce War Eagle, with 1 willow and one small Indiana blade

jig- black and blue 3/8 ounce Strike King with a rattleback, with a flippin blue(electric blue)Netbait paca sr. trailer

soft plastics- Berkley Powerbait 7 inch redshad and a Zoom green brush hog....i also put two plastic colored beads on mine between the pegged weight and the hook. I know someone probably used this long before me but I call it a Ferguson rig.....lol.(my last name)

All members have a feature called "Favorites" to store up to twenty

threads. I use many of them quite often, we have "similar" questions

asked all the time.

Since its a beginner, I'd stick mostly to reaction baits.  Spinnerbait, buzzbait, 4-8' crankbaits, and a Senko style worm.  I'd tell the newbie to fish the reaction baits from top to bottom, and once bit, ply the area with the Senko.

Under the categories provided I would suggest the following:

Topwater - Rapala Original Floater number 9 and number 11

Crankbait (Lipless) - Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap 1/2 oz bleeding shiner

Spinnerbait - Strike King Premier Plus 3/8 oz white w/ chartreuse skirt colorado/willowleaf blades w/ trailer hook

Jig - GMAN 3/8 oz black/blue, Yum 3.5 inch chunk black/blue flake

Plastics - 5 inch *** Trick Stick watermelonseed, Strike King KVD Pro Model 3.5 inch tube watermelon/chartreuse tail

great beginner jig-

1/4oz bitsy bug jig (green craw) with matching 3 inch trailer (yum craw papi, netbait paca craw, eakins craw....)

Top Water- Rebel Pop R, good cheap too

Crankbait- Daiwa peanut, or Rapala DT 3 Flat

Spinners- I don't use them too much

Worms- Fish Stalker worms, ( they are like a hand pour trick worm, have better colors too.)

Senko style bait

Jigs- I don't fish those too much either.

                      -gk

Top; Good old jitterbug in black. Cant beat it with a stick.

Crank: (jerkbait) Rapala Xrap. Best lipped lure for the money IMHO.

Jig: Craw or dark colors 1/4 ounce.

Spinnerbait: 1/4 or 3/8 ounce colarado blades, dark or chartruse skirt, best brand you can afford

Plastics: A bag of Senkos and a bag of Powerbait. Dark colors work best yet again.

Booyah Buzz white/chartreuse

Rat-L Trap original

Strike King White/Blue w/ trailer

Powerworm black 10" and Yum Dinger watermelon

Zara spook-Baby Bass

Wiggle wart-Crawfish

Strike king bleeding spinner-White

1/4oz round head jig

5" Senko-Green pumpkin or Cinnamon

3" Curly tail grub-Blue pearl

My picks-

Topwater - 3/8oz Cavitron Buzzbait - Black.

Crankbait - 1/2oz Redeye Shad-one of the chrome patterns.

Spinnerbait - 3/8oz Mann's Classic - white/char.

Jig - 3/8oz Revenge Flip Jig- Black/brown w/ 4" Berkley Chiggar craw-Green Pumpkin.

Plastics - 5" Senko- watermelon - 10-" Berkley Power worm-Junebug.
