Hmm...Gear is half the fun. I like technique specific rods;

strong, smooth, silent and reliant reels; high-tech lines and

designer lures. The whole package is fun to play with and fish.

I have no interest in going back to the old junk.

I guess I would, its not nearly as fun but at least I would be out fishing. I have 6 misc setups of spincast reels at home for guest that want to fish our pond so I am good to go! 8-)

I have all those setups because my wife thought that her and her friends could figure out how to use my baitcasters.... When I found out I had to respool 3 reels :'(... Wife doesn't touch MY poles anymore and she has her setup to entertain her friends and family when they come over lol.

I agree that I wouldn't want to go back to the old junk but the hypothetical question proposed was, "If you were, by some divine mandate, allowed to fish only with a Zebco 202 combo and the stuff that's usually part of one of those cheapy starter kits , would you still bother?"  If I had to go back to the old junk and didn't have a choice, I would still fish.

I agree with J Francho too.  The Zebco 33 was the spincast reel of choice for me back in the day.
