What allows for better hooks when T Rigged?

Featured Replies

I would like to know if you feel that when t rigging does a pegged or an unpegged weight allow for more hook ups?

Basically do you catch more fish per the number of bites on one or the other?

I only peg when casting into wood or pads.  Keeps the line between the weight and the hook from draping over cover.  I know I like the looks of the bait action better when the weight is free.  I don't think it matters in most cases.

I mainly fish with a sliding weight however I will use a screw in weight if I was fishing grass or heavy cover.

Un-pegged weight & straight shank round bend hook ;)

I seem to feel the bite much better unpegged, so my vote is unpegged.

i never have fished a pegged weight.

unpegged.

Never really pegged mine...so unpegged has worked for me for a long time, so I'll stick with it..although I do have some toothpic's in my tackle bag.. ;)

Unpegged.

But there are some things to keep in mind. If you get a hit on the initial fall you need to sweep set the hook to the side like a C-rig. This is because the weight is probably several inches up the line and you need to keep the line as straight as possible to get a solid hookset.

If you get a hit after you have pulled the line tight then go ahead and set it over your shoulder.

An offset hook or a straight shank round bend will also give you the best chance for solid hook penetration.

I have about the same hook up with both.  Only time I peg though is when I'm flipping(which is 90% of the time  ;D )
