Fish Attractants. Which ones work?

Featured Replies

I have never really used fish attractants, but after smelling Bangs crawfish formula at dicks sporting goods, it made me wonder. It smells excactly like nasty dead crayfish.  Im not very interested in the scent making them bite, more just to cover up smells that may turn fish off from my hands.

Ive been doing alot of cold water jig fishing lately and wonder if anyone has had particularly good luck with a certain brand.

tight lines!

Two of our sponsors offer outstanding products:

MegaStrike for a "dead shad" scent and VERY convenient

application.

JJ's Magic for strong garlic and color.

I use JJ's for jig trailers and MegaStrike for everything else.

MegaStike is also recommended as a lubricant for swimbaits.

x2 for megastrike

^^ Exactly!

X3 with megastrike.... Since i started using it i will never touch a another scent.

-Only need to apply about 2 times an hour  (Instead of every other cast)  ;D

-Very good price for how long a tube lasts!

-Not oily and messy like other sprays and scents

My vote is megastrike.

Good luck!

Either megastrike or JJ's would be a good choice.

X4 for Mega Strike

Later, ;)

X5 on the Mega Strike!  ;)

I have only used the JJs a little bit and there is no way that stuff doesn't cover up your scent.

Every time I use it, it makes me want Italian real bad.

cool, megastrike is now on the way ;)

along with some finess jigs and standups

yeah i never thought about the importance of lubing swimbaits and jigs, makes sense.

thanks guys

Tips:

MegaStrike can be applied when you are ready to fish,

it's easy to use.

JJ's Magic can be dipped at home (outside). After dipping baits,

let them dry before putting them back into well sealed bags.

The scent will last indefinitely, no spill and much easier to fish.

These points should be stressed heavily   ;D

The scent will last indefinitely

that's for sure

Ive never really used scents for fresh water, but salt water if Im throwing a plastic its definatly getting carolina lunker sauce on it, crawfish flavor. Snook, redfish, jewfish, snapper, etc. LOVE it.

Mega Strike is good, but Smelly Jelly is by far my favorite. It does turn a few lookers into biters, and cover up your own scent. It's not magic, but it does help some. They make it in both a jelly and sticky liquid formula. Tons of different flavors.

I too agree on these two scents, they are the only two that get in my boat. I need to ask you something RW! I know that this will happen to me this year= I will open a bottle of JJ's to dip my bait and I will somehow spill it on my carpet :'(! So WHEN I do this is there anything that will remove the stain? :-/ And the smell? :-?

Megastrike and Edge Hot Sauce Gel both work great for me.

Here's a shot of JJ of JJ's Magic with a bag of samples he brought for the roadtrip crew.

That is some powerful strong fish attractant.

I'm designing a similar suit for applying JJ's on the water in the boat.

  • Super User

The only problem with that suit is that the hands aren't covered.

I don't even use Megastrike, but Ike used it in the classic and claimed it gave him a lot of confidence.....and he isn't sponsored by Bobby. I bet Bobby did a somersault when he read that. Seriously, that exposure alone was worth no less than $30k.

I like to use Upper Hand Scents in their Hawg Sauce and Coffee/Shad flavors.  Great scents to marinate your baits in!

I been using Bang in the shad scent...to be honest, I can't tell if it works, or not.. :-[

  • Super User

I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added.

This was brought up on the Roadtrip, but I don't recall the answer.

However, my advice is avoid the potential problem and apply JJ's

Magic at home, then carry baits in well sealed bags.
