For most of my life I've been using a basic clinch knot. Not even the improved version. I can tie it in seconds blindfolded. I've learned other knots over the years but always go back to the basic clinch knot because it's so quick and easy.

I know the clinch knot weakens the line more than many other other knots but I can't think of too many instances where a failed knot was the reason I lost a fish.

What knots do you use to tie on lures, hooks, swivels, etc? Do you vary your knot depending on what it is that you are tying on? Or do you usually stick with one knot for most applications?

i use the palomar knot for almost everything....

Palomar, Uni, Snell, Improved Clinch.

I used to use the clinch until I lost a rapala because it simply came untied. Not broke. It came undone. Then someone showed me the palomar and that is all I use now.

Knot failures can and will happen when any knot is tied improperly.

Braid to swivel: improved clinch, double wrap.

Leader to swivel: clinch, pelagic species improved clinch,single wrap

Leader to hook: " " " " " " "

Leader to lure: loop knot, double wrap ( if lazy duolock, clinch knot)

Joining: bloodknot

Trilene for most everthing, except DS (Palomar) and Flipping (Snell).

Trilene, Palomar, Braid, Uni w/Palomar being my favorite all around.

Been experimenting with the Palomar, and San Diego Jam knot. Keep going back to the improved clinch though.

I use clinch and/or improved clinch (wet line before tightening)on everything below 17lb test, and palomar on 17 and above. I only remember one instance of losing a lure and thinking it was a knot failure.

Pitzen on everything except joining lines. That's either a true bloodknot, bimini, or Alberto's.

The deciding factor most of the time is the type of line that I'm using.

Palomar for hooks and jigs, San Diego Jam Knot for cranks and spinnerbaits.
