Anyone else LOVE Berkley baits?

Recommended Posts

I fell in love with them yesterday. I have fished them before, but wasnt serious about catching fish with them.

Yeterday I caught 4 fish on them,3 of them came while I was clearing a backlash. When they say "The fish bite and wont let go",they arent kidding. Im not sure if it was the feeding mood the fish were in or if it was the bait, but on 2 of the fish, the worm went deep,(as did the hook) with only the very front of the worm being left exposed. These fish were small and I didnt want to perform surgery,so I clipped the line and turned em loose, with hopes they would make it.

I have new found respect for Berkley Brand baits...Question I have though, why do some packages smell different from others,is it a difference in the formula? Older stuff smells like fish, and the newer stuff seems to have a citrus scent to it. Is it just me or does everyone else notice this? Does it make any difference in the catch rate?

7" junebug or watermelon powerworm has been responsible for at least half of the bass caught in my life. ALWAYS a t-rig with one of those colors tied on

Always can count on a power worm 7" Green Pumpkin has won me more money than probably all my other baits combined.

I learned to worm fish with Berkley Power Worms.  Caught my first keeper on them too.

That said, I rarely use them any more.  I sometimes fish a power lizard but that is about all I use from Berkley.  I use Zoom 99% of the time.  I like Zoom's limitless color options.

pond fishing with a 7 inch power wormand a 1/16 ounce bullet weight is my favorite way to fish! I like a culptrit 10 inch worm better than the 10 inch power worm. I think the 10 inch power worm is to thick but thats just my opinion.

They may be the best assortment of soft baits available. I have not used one that doesn't catch fish.

Love them Berkley baits. I like the tubes, the beasts and their worms. My only complaint is you have to leave them in their original bags. Otherwise they stink up the tackle bag. And the car. Oh, and the garage.

I love the powerbait plastics. Power worms are my favorite worms, and the Berkley Power Grubs have the best action of any grub around IMO.

Not a fan of them of any variety at all. While I know they catch fish just fine for some I personally feel there are better options for designs, colors, actions, and megastrike takes care of the fish won't let go thing.

I admit though when they first came on the market when I was younger they were the shiznit.

There's the problem....I think gulp repels largemouths

Powerworms are great but I hate the color choices...

Three of the tournaments i have won can be attributed directly to the 7 inch red shad power worm.

I am sorry and for all those berkley nuts out there, IMO berkley is over rated on the soft plastics. gulp , powerbait, does not produce any more for me than zoom, big bite baits, or bps baits.

NO, x2

I have fished side by side with other baits, from Snook, Bass, Tarpon, and Bluegill. Guess what.......! I have not run across a scenario where I can say that Berkley outperformed like baits.

I can also attest to the fact the unlike their add suggest, it doesn't not outperform live bait. On the contrary I fished their Peeler Crab cause we only had a few dead crabs on the boat while Tarpon fishing. We had two rods out one with crab and one with peeler, worked exactly in the same manner, guess what it didn't even come close. Yes, its only one instance, but it didn't "Out Catch Live Bait."

Berkley baits are also significantly more expensive the others, so I would expect them to catch more fish. They have an awesome R&D that cost big $$$, guess who pays for it...? Berkley also has some awesome advertising campaigns, guess who pays for it?

Nevertheless, many pros and amateur fisherman swear by them and confidence in your lure is more important than anything else so to each his own, but IMO save your money find a less expensive alternative and upgrade other more important tackle like hooks, rods, reels, and line, where a difference can be achieved when it comes to fish catching performance.

Love Power Bait but not too fond of Gulp. They seem stiffer and tend to dissolve.

Power Baits are designed to give you a couple extra seconds to feel the bite and set the hook. I use the Shaky Worms, Power Worms and Chigger Craws all the time. Like on a jig, a bass can suck in and spit out a jig in less than a second.....most times when I've got a Chigger Craw trailer on the jig, they dont/wont spit it.

Heck, I put ZOOM worms and all kinds of other unscented baits in the bags with my Power Bait stuff all the time. I'm not sure if it helps but I know it doesn't hurt.

Zoom has been my favorite for years but man do those chigger craws work as a jig trailer! My #1 drop shot bait is a 3" power bait drop shot worm and if anyone has any they want to get rid of I am always looking for more.

I have noticed the smell and it seems to help the fish want to stay on longer. Berkley baits are some of the best baits hands down
