New Jersey Roll Call

Featured Replies

I grew up in NJ and fished it mostly in the late 80's and 90's. I've caught plenty of fish in the 3-5lb range as well. For me when it got totally choked out was when I noticed my numbers getting better. Way less boat traffic and less guys that wanted to deal with the weeds back then. I grew up learning on a lake pretty similar so I always felt confident to fish IN the weeds. I do agree it was one of the better bass fishing waters especially for the northern part of the state. However most of my fishing was concentrated on a body of water that at the time was closed to the public where we knew the security guy that patrolled it which is now open to the public. Split Rock Resevoir. To me hands down the best water in NJ to fish. Has almost every kind of cover and typical bass fishing area to host all different presentations. Had great smallmouth as well. Caught one from there that was 10lb 2oz back in 1996 fishing in early April. Huge prespawn female slow rolling a spinnerbait. Not sure how the fishing is there now as I haven't been there in at least 10 years.

I run into guys from time to time who won't fish there anymore because of the weeds. Still a spot where you can catch some big fish though. Caught my biggest pickerel to date in there.

  • Thanks! It's good to be back for the family and the food selection.  I went up and paid for my 2022 Hobie Pro Angler today.  Decided it would be too much of a PITA to put it up on the roof of my broth

Holla, might as well rep the hood, Lakewood. Most guys are to worried to fish my local waters, Lake Shenandoah is a great fishery and I have never had a problem.

I mainly fish Carsaljo, Shenandoah, prosper town, and stump tavern from kayak or the bank. I will hit the Manasquan a few times a year to, some great fishing there too!

Pretty much a bunch of decent spots to be had with in 30-1hr drive if that.

I'm like Ike too, I'm loud and like rap music, but I drive American cars.

Is Stump Tavern inside Colliers Mills? I'm not sure where that is. I haven't been to Shenandoah in years. I'm from Jackson. In Forked River now

Hello! I'm a Warren County guy over here, going to college in South Central PA so those are the two places I cover.  SC PA sucks for bass fishing, so I love it when I'm home for getting my line wet, much more bass and fishing spots!

Does brief, former NJ resident count? I lived in Lawrenceville, Mercer county for four years before moving to MI 7 years ago. I didn't get to fish much, but I hit up Carnegie, Mercer, and the D&R canal a few times.

I didn't fish the section near carnegie, but I canoed it a few times in the summer. For three years, I rented a house south of 95, closer to Trenton that was just a block from the canal. From the house, I used to hike northeast along the path and bank-fish here and there as I went. I only did this a few times though -- too many other demands on my time when I lived there to do much fishing.

South jersey checking in. Moved over here from philly about 3yrs ago. Just started bass fishing this year. Basically I find blue on the gps. And I go, a lot of lakes and ponds around here. A lot of private lakes around too. Kind of sucks when u drive 30 min just to get to a place u can't fish. Trial and error right! Any info on some good spots is always welcome. Erial area. Bank fishing. Don't mind driving as long as i can put a line in when I get there. Happy fishing guys!!!

Hey everyone, new to the forums. From South Jersey and hoping to get out and explore some more. When people say Menantico, I understand there are multiple ponds - are they all pretty decent for bank fishing?

Hello everybody. I was just curious to see how many members we have here from the Garden State. So I'll get it started, My name is Tom and I am addicted to bass fishing. I live in Bergen County. I try to wet a line everyday, although fishing time is at a premium. My goal for the summer of 2011 is to not fish with Senkos at all. Oh, and I want to catch lots of Smallies.

So, any other Garden Staters out there?

Cue the spooky background music, resurrecting this thread from the graveyard.  Should have found it and done this back around Halloween.

Grew up in NJ, wandered West for many years and now find myself back here in Middlesex county taking care of elderly parents.  Do a lot of stream trout fishing, decided I wanted to get back into bass fishing too to mix it up.  Went out a few times this summer with a friend and canoe to Round Valley and Assunpink.  I'm in the process of redoing my bass gear and acquiring a kayak and am looking forward to getting out and doing more bass fishing in 2023.  I have read through this entire thread and am grateful for the many suggestions of places to check out.
