Southern ocean county, manahawkin. I fish anywhere I can, salt to fresh. Have been heavy freshwater the past two years now my boys are just getting started.... lots of small ponds I fish from bank, canoe or my 13' bass tracker. Have hit a few lakes around but I tend to hit lake lenape the most. My 2015 goal is smallies

t winter being over very soon. We had a slow winter not getting a lot of snow. Hopefully that'll stay the same.I'm from the Cumberland County area. I play on fishing in afew weeks. The winter will determine that.

I fish offshore in cape may in the summer. Always looking to find a good place to catch some bass in that area. I know it sounds stupid to fish for bass when you have the ocean but I always miss my favorite pastime. does anyone have a good spot within 20 miles of there where I could find some largemouth to hook up on?

Where do you exactly live? If you live in central jersey a good bet is Carnegie lake or the Manasquan Reservoir.

ten2one, what are some of the ponds you fish in that area?

have you ever fished the impoundments in manahawkin? I head down there from time to time because I have family out there and would love to find a few decent spots.

I have fished that lake a number of times over the years. Back in the 70's and 80's it was probably one of the best Bass lakes in NJ. Up until 2 years ago it was the site of my personal best Largemouth. 7.5 lb. on the spring scale I carried back then. You could go there on any given day and catch high numbers of Bass in the 2 lb. range and 3 to 5 pounders were not uncommon. I was in the bait shop on the lake when a guy came in with a 9+. Now it's 99% choked with thick weeds. You still can catch a few Bass there but not the quality fish you used to get. Pretty sad really.

I grew up in NJ and fished it mostly in the late 80's and 90's. I've caught plenty of fish in the 3-5lb range as well. For me when it got totally choked out was when I noticed my numbers getting better. Way less boat traffic and less guys that wanted to deal with the weeds back then. I grew up learning on a lake pretty similar so I always felt confident to fish IN the weeds. I do agree it was one of the better bass fishing waters especially for the northern part of the state. However most of my fishing was concentrated on a body of water that at the time was closed to the public where we knew the security guy that patrolled it which is now open to the public. Split Rock Resevoir. To me hands down the best water in NJ to fish. Has almost every kind of cover and typical bass fishing area to host all different presentations. Had great smallmouth as well. Caught one from there that was 10lb 2oz back in 1996 fishing in early April. Huge prespawn female slow rolling a spinnerbait. Not sure how the fishing is there now as I haven't been there in at least 10 years.
