I broke my Gills a little over 2 weeks ago.  That's like 5 pairs of relatively expensive sunglasses I've crushed in as many years.   I'm done with expensive sunglasses.

Went into BPS afterwards determined to buy something off the racks instead of out of one of the glass cases.  I settled on these...

I got the pair with the amber-to-brown lenses.  

All I can say is WOW!  These rock for $39.99.  

The lenses are photochromatic.  The get really light in low light and really dark in bright light.   So far, the tinting always seems to be about right for me.  I haven't found myself wanting more or less tinting at any given time.  I'm wearing them a lot.  They even make my eyes feel good sitting in front of a bright computer monitor.   And I'm wearing them in the evening while driving.  The contrast with the amber lenses is fantastic.

The lenses are as distorition free as any expensive glasses I've owned.  So no eye strain.

The glasses are light.  Even better, they fit my big, full face with no problem.  

I think I'm going to buy a few more pairs.  A pair for my car and truck, and a pair for backup.

so my costa's are the only way to go for me........ (haven't sat on 'em yet, and sure hope i don't.... bc with the Rx, they were quite the setback monetarily)

I paid $20 for a pair of polarized sun glasses, work just as good as my $300 polarized Oakley's...

contacts and polarized sunglasses are a good combination.

i agree, but i once wore contacts and was very used to them.......

but after many years without them, they irritate my eyes till no end, i cant even stand the thought of putting them in!!!!

if you can bear the contacts........ go for it....

for all others like me, you'll have to side with other options :-/

I wear glasses and much of the time (night) I don't need sunglasses so I wear flip ups.......Cocoons are my choice.

I think "a good pair of cheap sunglasses" is like asking for "an honest politician" Although the word cheap is relative. I have a pair of Strike King Polarized clip-ons that cost me $11.00 a few years ago. I am probably going to upgrade to Cocoons over the glasses model soon.

Unfortunately, I'm like mrlitetackle. I need prescription glasses, so my sunglasses cost me a small fortune. Worth every penny though.

I almost bought these a couple weeks ago. For like 18 bucks they sure did seem like a nice pair of shades. I normally only use Solar Bats, but the way I lose or break glasses, having a few cheaper pairs around is a must. I believe these also have 2.0mm lens on them which is a good thing. GRRRRRRRRR! Back to wally world I go. I knew I should have bought them in the first place.

i just recently saw an ad for new wiley x sunnies that go over your reg. glasses and they actualy look good.worth cheking out if you sport rx glasses.

CWB, save your $$$ re: the cocoons. I bought some 4 months ago, wore em twice and tossed them..got some strike king glasses at wally world. I have a RX for both distance, and reading, so I wind up taking my reading glasses with me so I can tie on my lures..lol

So far I have worn my strike kings about 10 times..good deal for the $$$ can't afford the RX in polorized..almost 400.00.... :-[

Yeesh that price makes lasik seem like a viable option and just wearing normal polarized shades... glad I have good vision I never knew they were that expensive.. though I should have.

I bought a pair of oakley "bullet" proof polarized low profille shades when I was in Iraq. Not expecting to be shot in the eye but I had my fair share of rocks and debris flying up and wanted a solid pair of shades where the lenses were reliable and I could count on them not getting all scratched up after 2 hours. They ended up costing me about $300. Bullet proof polarized... and thats with a huge discount from ordering from us standard issue site (oakleys military site, you fax them a copy of your military ID and they give you insane deals) so I can't imagine what those glasses would have cost at normal price... let alone adding prescription to them. Anyhow I still have them now, rarely get used as I opt to just wear a $20 pair of polarized lenses and I'm always afraid they are going to fall off my face and sink to the depths when I'm retrieving a fish.

Honestly between the $300 pair and the $20 pair there is very minimal difference in actual vision.  The cheaper glasses have a little more of a tint to the polarization but thats about it.
