Who Else Is Ready For Deer Season?

Recommended Posts

I woke up to a text today from one of my buddies, "Only 2 months and 8 days". These next couple months need to hurry up and get over with! I'm running a couple cameras on one farm right now just to see what's hitting the mineral stations, and going to put another out tomorrow. Then in the beginning of August I'm pulling them all from that farm and putting the whole army out on the farm I'm expecting to get quite a few big buck pics like I did last year. Every time I go to check cameras it feels like Christmas morning :D . Who else is ready?

I'm ready I won't get much hunting in this year however. Ill miss the last half of gun and the begining of bow. I'm gonna miss the best parts of coyote and fox though and I'm more into predator hunting then deer.

Just 2 months for me. Sept 10th is the Bow opener. I've got a Wildlife Managment Area that I want to check out this year. It's boat access only so it should be a good challange. I'm heading out in a couple of weeks to do some scouting. Then I'll be ready to rock and roll.

I live about a mile from the South Carolina border. If I wanted to pay for their Out of State License I could hunt deer next month. But thier license is more than my hunting club dues.

Ya I can't stand deer hunting in the heat either, but I love deer hunting enough that I'm still crazy enough to do it :D . What part of the state are you from? I'm just south of St. Louis.

That's a stud of a buck Bluebasser! I'm really wanting to get some pictures like this again this year and maybe even get a shot. We're heading down to the main farm that we hunt here in an hour or two, and decided we may as well put up the 4 cameras we have in our basement just laying around right now. When we go back down in a couple weeks we'll put out the ones we have at a different farm and replace batteries and cards. September 15 can't come fast enough..

Also Bluebasser did you get any other pics of that buck? I'd love to see them if you did.

I can't waite for deer season but I still want my bass fishing to go on a little longer. This year I plan on hanging up the rifles and bow and plan on hunting them with my Smith & Wesson Model 57. Every buck that I have shot and the ones my father and friends have shot have all been under 60 yards. No sense in carrying a rifle for those distances. Plus that leaves my hands free for grunting and rattling. We mostly still hunt up here.

Wow that deer of yours has a crazy rack on it! He must use that area a lot to have that many pictures of him too. I do have one more picture of that buck with his head down on the mineral block. He doesn't look quite as big because his rack is a little obstructed by the poison ivy vines. The thing that really kills me is that my stand is directly to the left of him in this picture, 13 yards away from the base of the big hedge tree my stand is in. He would be at a very slight quartering away angle right here.

DSC_0029.jpg

There is another buck that I think is his twin but his rack is clean without all the stickers, same size though. I don't think this buck is very old from looking at him. He looks very healthy, especially for it being at the end of the rut when he should be in his worst condition of the year. My stand sits in a hedgerow where several major deer trails converge. Problem is there isn't much keeping them on the property so I'm really just hoping that I'm there when they decide to move to or from a feeding or bedding area. Here's a picure of how open it is, nothing but bean field and some tall grass and the hedgerows.

d**n fellas,

If I had deer like that running through my lease I'd be itching too :D!

This week I am about to bust out the archery gear and get back to my Robin Hood ways! My brother has been scouting for me and says he is about about to put up the cameras!

I finally got my camera out today on my mineral lick. I'm pretty excited because in the middle of all the tall grass was a big dug out dirt spot where the deer were digging for the mineral lick :D that has to be a good sign.

Also got my new arrows wrapped and fletched today, going to get sighted in on Wednesday. The season will be here before we know it!

These are the ones that myself and my family and best friend got. Over the past few years, we struck out the last two season though. I'm proud of these Bucks since its awful hard to get bucks like these where I live. Hope you guys like them.

My Dad shot this one opening season of that year. It was the 5th largest buck shot (Dressed weight) in Maine that year weighing in at 260 lbs.

The other rack he is holding is his only other buck he has shot and it dressed out at 235 lbs.

A few days later I shot this buck that dressed out at 213 lbs. 10019423gx4.jpg

The next season I shot this buck that dressed out at 201 lbs.I was actually standing over a bear that I shot the evening before when I rattled him out.

A few days before I shot the buck above My best friend while hunting with me rattled this buck that dressed out at 259 lbs and ended up being the 2nd heaviest buck shot that season.

This is my last buck that I shot and my smallest weighing it at 151 lbs dressed out.

I would love to see more of a your bucks; both trail pictures and shot deer. I love seeing deer from other parts of the country.

Had a couple supplement blocks set out in front of my camera for 4 days. Went out to check it and my 20lb block was destroyed. They'd eaten almost the entire thing in 4 days. The best part was that my camera didn't get a single picture! It worked alright last year for a cheap camera but I put a nice new Moultrie camera on layaway at Cabelas that day. It sucks to put the time and effort in to try to get some pictures of hopefully some nice bucks and have a piece of equipment fail on you. <_<
