On those days when the sun is high, there is no wind and you have gone hours without a bite what bait will you use to avoid getting skunked?

For me its a senko or 4" spider grub with an 1/8th oz weight.

Chances are if I have gone for hours without a bite, I have already thrown everything I own. I need to either go deeper or just go home and throw some horseshoes until it cools off.

Usually it's an inline spinner and I'm trying to catch anything that swims.At this point I'll be happy if a bluegill hits it.

I don't select any specific lure until determining where the bass are. The first thing is to use your electronics to determine where to fish. Once you know the answer to that question, by eliminating where no fish or bait are, then it's a lot simpler to select a lure that should work, that you haven't already tried.

If I had to pick only one type of lure it would be a plastic worm of some type and color that works on the specific lake at that time of year.

Some days you just have to keep fishing until the bass become active and start to bite. It's not about the right lure, it's more about the right place and time.

Wade fishing in the creek like I usually do. If a 4" Zoom Lizard isn't catching anything, then I'm tying on a Rooster Tail and trying to catch every fish in the river.

Same thing as what you said but I will go even slower than you are saying and throw 4 inch senko style worm or even a single tail grub but go totally weightless with them and I will fish painstakingly slow.

i tie on a jig and go pitching bushes......its work, its hot, but the bites will be quality....

A lot of people are going to slow down and go smaller.  When this has happend to me lately ive been doing the opposite with some success.  Ripping Lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits.  Last week couldnt get bit on anything.  Was fishing a dropoff at about 30 feet of water.  Jig nothing, worm nothing....I ended up just giving it a shot and tied on a 1/2 oz redeye shad and let ir shimmy to the bottom and just started ripping it up and down off the bottom.  Ended up leaving catching three keepers when i probally shouldve been skunked.  Just dont think slowing down is always the answer.

                   i do the same thing. When the "book"says to do this, I go in the other direction. Ripping the red eye shads out of grass or cranking through cabbage usually gets some nice fish. If you put in the time, the fish will come...

I usually go to a carolina rig with a brush hog.  That seems to work just nice.  Interesting about speeding up?  Never thought about that one.  Thanks for the input guys.

the same for me the 4" watermelon senko. im trying to see if i have another go to in the plastic department. my bother has good luck with the culprit pumpkinseed firetail. so i bought the zoom version but havent tried it yet.  and im still debating on the shakey heads. i get hits just cant seem to hull them in.

It happens very seldom .But when im doing all i can and not getting anything ill use a live minnow

When I don't catch anything all day long, I put my tail between my legs and go home.

Another vote for lipless cranks. I also throw a shad rap, smallest size, or the original.  Third on my list is a small plastic, slider worm, or a fluke on a light (1/8 or 1/4 oz.) head.

It changes depending on the location and the time of year. For smallmouth, I'll put everything else down and pick up a pointer 100 in chartreuse shad and throw that the rest of the day. For largemouth, it really depends on the conditions but you can never go wrong flipping a jig.

I either downsize and fish weightless zoom shakey head worms, or 3 inch GYM senkos. OR most of the time i'll tie on a Excalibur Xr50 Rattle Bait, in foxy momma color and work it as fast as i can. Sometimes i'll substitute the Rattle Bait for a Bass Pro xps "the egg" crankbait, I've caught countless bass on this bait burning it over the grass flats at my local pond.

I will go to a four inch t rigged worm and fish it as slow as I can.
