Hey guys, I need some advice. I have quite a few new and very nice rods that I've used some and they're starting to get some discoloring on the cork from use...dirt, etc.

What is the easiest, safest way to clean the cork without damaging it or wearing it down?

I've heard you can use alcohol?

Any suggestions would be great!

Fill cracks with Elmer's Wood Putty.

Lightly sand smooth with 220, finish with 320.

Coat with U-40 Cork Sealer.

Grips will look better than new.

that cork sealer is not easy to find at the local store, I had to pay 5 bucks shipping on amazon and the sealer sells for 7 bucks.

Cabela's has it.

Simple Green. Works so well I couldn't believe it. My nasty brown handles looked brand new with very minor scrubbing.

I've used these, they have a gritty side and it's an incredibly fast job to clean 5-10 rods.

I use Simple Green on mine and it does work amazingly well. I've never tried J Francho's suggestions......sounds like some great ideas though.

This is the best way I've found. Some people don't like the way cork feels with U40. Personally, I can see the difference but it's pretty slight.
