To All My Memphis Pond Hoppers!

Featured Replies

Hey you guys im new to the forum and had a few questions! I just bought a 6in huddelston swimbait and a few kanan swimbaits and was wondering which lake in the Germantown area would be best for me to try to catch a monster on one of these. I was thinking about maybe either Collierville city hall or Neshoba but yalls suggestions would be great! Thanks

Collierville CC. Fish from the bridge to the big culvert.

Good luck!

Hey Guys,  Haven't been on here in a million years but, since I've been away I've had some luck. All these fish were weighed and released. The picture at night was at Chickasaw Gardens. 7lbs

  • Saw this one crash the bank on some shad. He took the squarebill in two casts. It was so windy, I had to cast it inland to get it to fall in his zone a few feet off the bank. 3.2lbs, Johnson-fountains

  • Recent catches since Sunday. Top-3.8, bottom left-3.6, bottom right-2.9. All on t-rigged worms of different colors, all between 8:30am and 10:30am. Johnson Park ponds.

Hello All -- new member here! Thanks to Jeff for telling me about this site when we met at Grove a few days back.

I fished Collierville CC this morning, but there's water weeds along the entire bank to around 15-20 ft out.  I resorted to throwing a frog on top, but no luck.

Where is the daycare pond I read about here?  Anyone fished it lately?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard! Glad you found your way over here!  The daycare pond is right off 385 and Houston Levee.

Thanks Jeff.  Assume it's OK to park in the daycare lot?

Let me know if you still want to meet up sometime and let me demo one of your Avids.  I threw a friend's Premier this weekend and liked it.

The road to the side of it is double wide, and hardly used.  I always just park on the side of the road, but I have only been there a handful of times.

We can meet up anytime!

Jeff

I'll have to give the daycare lake a try.  We hit the CC lake last week but getting thru the grass turned out to be problematic.  The #1 lake in Rossville is nice.  We've tried a couple times in the evening but haven't found the right set up yet.  Lots of shade jumping around but no bites.

Hey guys.  What do ya'll think about making a running list of local fishing holes for us bank-beaters?  I'm new to the forum, but the ponds I either know about or have read about here are (in no particular order)...

Neshoba Park

Grove Park

Shelby Farms Park

Day Care

West Clinic

Collierville Community Ctr.

Herb Parsons

#1 Pond

Humphres Blvd. ponds

Others???

Please be sure that any fishing spots listed are open to the public, or otherwise describe how to obtain permission to fish a private location.

It would be helpful also to post frequent updates on catches, baits, water conditions, etc.

Thanks!

Add Johnson Park in Collierville.

I've only used the JP ponds near the entrance for swimming my Golden, but I know there's also a pond or two closer to the boardwalk and the very large pond down a paved path on left once you enter the park .  Which of the lakes hold fish?

I fished Neshoba for an hour late this afternoon -- first time there.  Caught two 2-pounders and missed another on a 1/2 oz football jig with a Rage Tail Claw trailer.  Did all my fishing along the bank nearest the road near the culverts.

Anyone have any tips on fishing this pond?

I fished Daycare Pond for about 3 hours this afternoon, struck out... 2nd time in a row. Anybody having any luck there?

I haven't fished it yet, so I'd like to get some feedback posts also.

I've only fished the two ponds to the right of the ball fields.  Caught some 1-2lbers between the wooden bridge and the fountain last week.  I've also had a little luck on either side of the paved bridge, right next to the soccer fields, but it's been quite awhile since I've fished that area.  Never fished the large rectangular lake on the far west side of the park, closest to Wolf River Blvd.

Just pulled JP up on google maps.  Never realized there was a much larger pond behind the northwest corner of the park.  Looks like the only access is by the paved trail JDJ was talking about.  Anyone walked back and given it a try?

We have fished the big one a few times. Even before there was a trail back there. It is a good walk to get back there. I think they have a trail, or the start of one, around the top edge of the lake now. That will make it easier to navigate around instead of walking on the edge of the water like we used to do.Some decent fish in it. I haven't been since we got our boat though. I may have to go back there this fall/ winter again.

We have pulled 3, 4, and even a few 5lbers out of the park pond with the fountains. Our secret little honey hole if we get skunked elsewhere.

Yes, there's a defined trail around the Johnson Park "big pond" now. Fairly steady amount of hiking and biking traffic is helping to keep the weeds knocked down. Easiest way to access it is to park by the ball fields and walk the perimeter to a cutout in the woods that leads to the pond. It is a bit of a hike either way, and a generally steep and weedy climb down from the trail to the water. I've seen a few bobbers stuck on the brush dam, but never anyone fishing the pond. There's a "no boats" sign which is a shame because it'd be a great place to fish with a small canoe or kayak.

Hey now!  A nice one!  How much did she weight and what did you catch her on?  Sure was cold today for short sleeves???

I have been out there early in the morning a couple times and saw 2 guys in a little canoe fishing. They didn't care that I was there either. They toted that thing all the way along the trail. Wouldn't have been fun. Usually no one really fishing back there, which is nice, in my opinion. Just wonder if it is hooding water. They have had problems with it leaking.

Nice fish tater. I had pretty much given up on daycare. Used to catch 3 and 4lbers out there. Last few times I went, we either didn't catch anything or just some small ones. Will give it another shot this winter.

I threw a swim jig all over DC Pond a couple of weeks ago just before dark. Couldn't get any takes.

Btw - This photo of Tater has been around for a while. I don't think this is a recent catch, but speak up Tater if it is. We need some hope at DC!

According to the picture in the latest bassmaster magazine there was a 12-3 caught from the Halle park pond!

There's a member here who took a monster bass there and has posted pics of it.  Halle park pond hasn't produced anything for me the few times I've been there.  Unless you count the middle-aged married woman hitting on me hard.  It was not Brandi Glanville, so don't get too excited.

Memphis guys, where you at???  I know with a couple of the warm days we've had that some of you have hit some of the ponds.

I fished Daycare Pond on Saturday morning for about 2 hours and caught 3 decent fish.  Finished my morning with a nice 18-inch 5 pounder.  There were a bunch of guys who showed up right before I left and they were fishing for the frying pan, so I let them have the pond.
