I'm sure you're not the only one mad. What do you recommend BASS do? Drop their title sponsor? Then what?

I think about this every time they mention the "Mad Venezuelan" on the news.  I'm not sure what to do about it, but I guarantee Citgo gets none of my business despite their BASS sponsorship.

I just hope the White House maintains its present position and refuses to comment on the speech indefinitely.  I get mad that the press treats Chavez and Ahmadinejad as equals to President Bush as if there is some kind of moral equivalency or that they are equals in world stature.  Ridiculous!  Compare the coverage of the Chavez speech with that of Premier Krushchev and the shoe incident in 1960.  Back then, the press had a sense of right and wrong as well as patriotism.  I don't care what anyone says.  Things were better back then (and I was born in 1970).

Not to rain of the citgo bashing parade or anything but what exactly are we supposed to do here.   We don't exactly have a made in the USA oil company that we can buy oil from.  We probally do have one who knows anymore but I don't know of any   We buy oil from people who want to kill us yet we are so ignorant we just keep buying and supporting them.  I wonder how much goods did we trade with japan or Germany during WWII

Bassnut has a point.  Every time we fill up our tanks we are financing terrorists.  It's a really sick joke if you think about it.  I can avoid Citgo because they own the retail stations as well as the oil fields.  At least if I buy my gas somewhere else, I can remain blissfully ignorant of where the money goes.

I work in the oil industry and the perception of "oil business" by the GP is way skewed thanks to some of the great news media we have out there. #1 thing to know is that we import a little over half the petro products we use in the US from neighbors (mexico and canada) and this is on the rise. Less and less oil is coming from the middle east and south america and so on into this country all the time. Oil ans gas prices were high and are on the fall, so this makes overseas oil more competative with domestic oil because its more costly to get the stuff out of the ground in the US thank you B. Clinton and EPA. We are in a catch 22 we can use our own and pay more, or we can use theirs and pay less until somthin' blows up and then pay more (a special thanks to the market speculators) and wait till it goes down and somthin' blows up and then pay more...and so on. Id like to see valero or devon or anadarko or even BP hook up with BASS. These are all "AMERICAN" oils companies (even though BP is British Petroleum its HQ'D in Houston). The reason I use quotes there is because oil is a globally exchanged commodity and it doenst matter if you buy it from citgo, exxon, phillips, valero, shell, or whoever, if it gets pulled out of the ground it will be sold and used somewhere. If you dont buy from a citgo station, the gas you didnt buy wiil end up in someones tank somewhere, and the crude it was produced from will go somewhere. Gas stations get gas from the most logistically feasable source, so it really doesnt matter about the marketers name, only the market share that company occupies. P.S. i dont like the whole foreign oil dependecy deal either, but better to use theirs up first and ours later...and you would be suprised at how much more there really is in US territory than in the rest of the world-LOTS.

Do you know why they're not announcing it? I haven't seen anything on their site or some of the sites that cover pro fishing.

No, they don't. I have no inside knowledge, but I think they're looking for sponsors in any industry, within reason, who will pony up. It's the only way there is to raise payouts and/or lower entry fees.

My measly purchases will not effect CITGO, but I will NEVER do any business with them directly.

I've given quite a bit of thought to this subject over the last week or so.  I hope that BASS and Citgo are ending their relationship.

I just wonder who BASS will get to replace that sponsorship?

Anything I can do to keep him from getting any of my money, I'm going to do. I fished a tournament at Grand lake in Okla. this past weekend. After the tourney we headed home ,but needed gas, we drove right by a citgo but didn't stop. Hoping to make it to the next station I said I rather siphon gas out of the boat than give my money to that nut down there. We drove by that citgo all weekend to go to another station for our gas for the boat, ice, drinks, breakfast, etc. That aint sulphur Hugo, that my exhaust fumes you smell as I drive right by your gas station.

Hugo's a scumbag. I stopped wearing my Citgo Bassmaster hat a long time ago. While I try to avoid Citgo stations I am somewhat concerned about the privately owned mom and pop businesses that pump Citgo gasoline. These are our fellow hard working Americans that just happen to be selling the wrong brand. I'm not sure of the costs involved to switch petroleum suppliers. Imagine how much differently we would be able to deal with international affairs were we not dependant on some of these people for oil.

I'm in the same boat myself.  By boycotting citgo I'm also hurting the little guy who happens to be selling under citgo But what do you do
