Interesting theory
This is how seeing several Herons in one area helps me. It gives me an area of the lake to spend some additional time on. It tells me that the predominant wind has been blowing into that area for a while now. The wind will push the plankton into that area and the baitfish will follow. This will attract the Herons. This doesn't mean that the bass are shallow it only tells me that baitfish are in the area and I should take a closer look around there. I don't pay much attention to gulls unless I see the fish blowing up underneath. In my lake you will find a mix of stripers, hybrids, and very big largemouth bass chasing the bluebacks. Gulls will dive on anything. Once one dives it attracts the rest of them and then they have you thinking that there is a feeding frenzy going on. It's usually a wast of time to chase them. Loons don't help me as much as Herons but they do tell me that pods of bait are in the area and that they are shallow enough for the birds to dive on them. I may idle around with my eye on the depth finder but that's about it.

Stay Off the Roads!!!
In that case then you should warn people to stay off the sidewalks.

Interesting theory
If they are birds that eat baitfish then yes. The more Blue Herrons I see the better. In the winter I look for the Loons.

I'm Still Shaking...
What we are saying is that if you are fishing a lake that is known to have 7lb+ bass in it then you might concider beefing up your line to at least 15lbs.

bull #@%& fishing ticket
****Moderator Edit**** Holy Crap!! I guess some of you miss the boat when it comes to how we can respectfully disagree with someone without personally attacking that them. I edited the mess out of this thread. If I deleted something that you thought would add a helpful and respectful note to this thread then that's my mistake. If you are upset because I censored you then check yourself and feel free to PM me about it.

Can I put a jig on a C rig?
Yes but why? That great action that you get from a C-rig is due to the lure being a few inches off of the bottom and several inches from the weight. If you put a jig on it you will defeat the reason for using a C-Rig because the jig will just be on the bottom. But fishing rules were meant to be broken. You may have stumbled on a better way to keep the jig on the bottom for the times when the fish don't want it hopped.

You may be addicted to bass fishing if ???!!!
You tell you neighbor that your glad that their new in-ground swimming pool is linerless so you can test your new lures. You miss a few days at the lake and the retired guys who are always there call to make sure your not dead. When you ask your girls dad if you can marry her on the way home from a fishing trip. When every family vacation growing up involved fishing. When you break your shoulder so bad that they put you in a cast that covers your whole side and tell you no activity for 4 to 6 months. So you go home and rig your boat for trolling and hit the lake anyway.

makeshift anchor
The best home made anchor I have ever seen was a small square peice of 1/2 inch steel with three small peices of rebar welded over one edge as cleats. I can't find a picture of one but it was great.
