Crappie Spawning?
They are spawning here in southeast Virginia. It was all I caught last weekend.

HEARTBURN
GERD. Ouch. :'( I've tried the Zantac, Pepcid, etc route and they only work marginally well for me. So I keep antacid tablets around and chew them frequently. Also modified my diet - no soda, or dairy products after about 6:00 PM.

Cheating on my Revos with a Johnny Morris Elite.
Beats me. But my understanding is that Johnny Morris reels are made by Silstar. Silstar markets their own reels under the Pinnacle name. They are also an OEM maker for BPS, and probably Pflueger.

Hope Rapala...
Rapala prices are a lot lower than they could get for them. They are that good.

Cheating on my Revos with a Johnny Morris Elite.
I fished with it some more today. If I had known how sweet that reel would cast, I may have never bought a Revo. This is the best casting reel I've ever owned. I have two of the centrifugal brakes "on" and the magnetic brake set to 50%. I was throwing 4" Yum Dingers with a 1/4 weight. Just effortless casting and no backlashes. I have it on my Johnny Morris Elite (w/ Recoil guide) and 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Just an awesome set up. May have to sell a Revo or two to get some more.

There are some curious similarities among them - Pflueger, BPS and Pinnacle.

Revo gear swap?
I've heard the rumor that Abu will be offering 5.4:1 Revos sometime this spring.
-
Revo S
I'd call Abu Garcia's customer service number and tell them what happened. They will probably send you a new sideplate, or trim piece, without charge. As far as the brake durability goes, it's the same brake that's on other Abu reels. It will hold up just fine.

Skeet Reese Edition Abu REVO!!!
I'll swap sideplates between my Revos SXs and SCs. $280. Interested? ;D
-
Revo S
If I had know how well the S performed, I probably would have never bought any other more expensive Revos. The S casts as well as any other Revo, and the brake seems much more effective. Best value of all the Revos.

South Park Season 12!
That's hella lame.

Bowfin (Dogfish)
My favorite lake is considered the best lake in Virginia for bowfin. It's also one of the best in Virginia for bass. Bowfin aren't "bad" for gamefish. You can have a large population of bowfin, and still have a trophy bass lake.

swivels and crankbaits
I use Norman Speed Clips. Unless the crank is tiny, I clip the Speed Clip directly the a the split ring. If its a tiny crank, then I tie a palomar knot to the split ring.

Shad Run
On the Chickahominy, Walker's Dam was open during the shad run. The main catch was alewife and blueback herring. Tieing 6-10 gold aberdeen hooks on your line and just dangling in the water was enough to fill a cooler full of fish. I'm not sure if Walker's Dam will be open this year > due to eh work being done on it.

BPS Rods and Reels!
BPS rods are pretty well regarded, and there are models to fit every budget. I have a Johnny Morris Elite baitcasting rod with Recoil guides, and two Pro Qualifiers with Alconite guides. They appear to me to be as well made as any rod out there. I'm very pleased with their weight, sentitivity and overall handling. I have big hands and I like the powerhump grips. I also own a 6' light Bionic Blade spinning rod with a BPS Enticer spinning reel. It was relatively inexpensive but I really like it. I just bought a Johnny Morris Elite baitcasting reel and I am very impressed with the way its built and its performance. It casts as well, or better, and my Revo STXs, and the brake is very effective. I think it was a good buy. I never really heard anything bad about BPS rods. They all seems to be well respected in their price class. Reels are a mixed bag - some people like them, some don't. I've only owned one BPS reel, the Enticer, and my experience has been positive. I expect the JM Elite will do well, too. Frankly, I think BPS stuff is as good as any other brand in the same price range. What sort of set-up do you want - spinning or baitcast? And what technique - plastics, jigs, spinnerbaits, etc?

Who makes Rapala rods and reels?
I dunno. But my local tackle shop carries a line of Rapala rods in the $90-$100 range with Alconite guides and they are NICE rods. Super light.

Cheating on my Revos with a Johnny Morris Elite.
Since no finish is bullet proof, I'm not too worried about it. If anything goes wrong, I'll exercise the warranty. As far as weight goes, it's actually lighter than my Revo STX.

Cheating on my Revos with a Johnny Morris Elite.
I bought another Revo STX 6.4:1 a week or so ago. But I decided I was Revo-heavy and wanted to try something else. I've had my eye on the Johnny Morris Elite baitcaster for sometime. I've heard good things about it, so I took the plunge and decided to try it for myself... I am thoroughly impressed with it, so far. The exterior finish is some kind of titanium coating. It's flawless. Even the inside of the aluminum brakeside sideplate is coated. It really looks nice. The reel has a dual brake system. The magnetic brake is externally adjustable. The knob moves the magnets closer or away from the spool, instead of covering them like on the Revo. The centrifual brake is the most easily adjustable brake I've seen on any reel. The plate over the brake keeps you from sticking a finger into the mechanism, and the brakes snap on and off with a satisfying click - very easy to manipulate. The sideplate comes off by pressing the BPS medallion on the sideplate, and twisting the sideplate down. Then you lift it off. The inside of the reel looks amazingly like the Revos. The main gear is aluminum, like on the Revo Premier. Total weight is 8.6 oz. I don't see anything that suggests it won't hold up as well as the Revo. The frame looks very much like the Revos. The reel appears more meticulously finished than my STXs. I can't get over how good this thing looks inside and out. I fished this reel for a couple of hours yesterday, paired up to my Johnny Morris Elite 7' MH/F rod (w/ Recoil guide) and 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. I hate admit it, but I found it easier to cast than my Revos. The brake is super effective, the best I've seen on any reel I've owned. I didn't catch anything (except a few crappie on a different rod/reel). If this reel keeps me as happy as I am with it now, I may buy more in the future. Whatever BPS reels were like in the past, BPS knocked the ball out of the park on this one.

The top one is a real road sign. From Australia.

Whats Your Favorite Combo?
Right now, it's my Rexo SX 6.4:1 on my Team All Star IM10 6'8" MH/F spinnerbait rod. If I only had one baitcaster setup, this would be it. I use it for spinnerbaits, big cranks, lighter jigs, jerkbaits, and have even used it for frogs.

tackle boxes
Here it is. It comes with 6 big boxes, but it will hold a lot more.... http://www.gandermountain.com/fishing/hotbuys_detail.asp_Q_ProdID_E_1223

tackle boxes
If you have a Gander Mountain near you, that have a Flambeau bag that holds 10+ 3700 boxes, and several smaller boxes. It looks like a big duffle. It has nice solid rubber wheels on one end and an extendable handle on the other. Looks like luggage. Like I said, it's made by Flambeau (it has their logo on it), but I've only seen it at Gander Mountain. It's not on their website. $100.
