  1. I'm not saying that! I'm just saying that it's possible to see a real snake out on a 38 degree day. For me, I don't start fishing topwaters until I start seeing topwater hits on real prey. I haven't seen that yet. I usually don't until it starts getting really warm, around late April or May.
  2. I wish I knew. The more I think I know snakes, the more they surprise me. As far as snakes go, I've seen Garter Snakes out when there was snow on the ground. I caught a Ribbon Snake last November swimming in 57 degree water (54 degree air temp). For the most part, snakes in my state don't start becoming real active until around mid April or so. Though I've seen them make there first tentitive ventures from the hibernating dens (hibernacula) much earlier if it was a warm, sunny day. In BassinAssassin171's defense, Georgia is far enough south that some snakes may stay active year around. Those that don't may not "hibernate," they may "brumate" - which is a very light state of hibernation, and much shorter duration. It's not out of the question that you could have a "cold snap" in spring in Georgia that catches some snakes out of their dens.
  3. Less fishing is out of the question. I bought one of those bands at Walgreens. It has a thick foam padded band that goes over the arm, and a strap with velcro that secures it. One size fits all. Well, that size doesn't fit me. Now I have to take it back and get another band. I might try that knee brace idea, 5Bass. My forearms are pretty thick. I'm pretty sure it's Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis). That ligament on the bottom outside of my upper arm gets irritated with when I flex my wrist a lot. I use a mouse all day and that makes it flare up. I have all the symptoms. My dad and sisters had it. My dad taught me an exercise to keep the inflammation down. I really want to get it under control so I don't have to see a doctor.
  4. That used to be the case, but not anymore. Not only is the 15 bigger, the 9.9 was 85lbs and the 15 is 130lbs.
  5. Are you talking about one of these? If so, I'm going to go today to get one. http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageMANIKE-TEBB3.html
  6. I've got it my right elbow. It doesn't make my elbow hurt as much as it does my hand. And wouldn't you know it, holding a spinning rod/reel makes it flare up worse than just about anything. Anyone dealing with this malady? What are you doing to cope with it?
  7. Pure Fishing, which owns Stren, Berkely, Fenwick, Abu, among others, and Shakespeare, which owns Pflueger, All Star, among others, are both owned by Jarden.
  8. The sideplate opens the same on all the Revos...
  9. Cuz making BIG panes of glass in colonial times, and delivering them on horse and wagon without breaking, was put-near impossible. If that ain't it, then I suspect 18, the number of pains, has some significance.
  10. I'm seeing more and more Bald Eagles every year. I saw two side by side sitting on a piling last year, with a third flying around them. And the number of ospreys is on the rise, too. This is a pic I took in November or December within 100 yards of where I photographed that eagle.
  11. Yeah, you did good. I really like the Extreme rods (though I don't own one). I do have a 6' light Bionic Blade spinning rod and I really like it.
  12. I went out to my favorite creek and got to see a real fisherman. He's out there evertime I go, but this time I had may camera...
  13. We're good, man. I'm not upset or anything. I just have this soft spot for snakes. I just hate the idea of hating snakes. There's nothing to hate about them (not to say the original poster does). I think they are awesome animals and are part of what makes the outdoors worth going into.
  14. The Aggressor combo is made to be a combo. You can't buy Aggressor rods or Aggressor reels unless they are part of a combo, AFAIK. I few years ago I got an Aggressor combo for my son. He's not into refinement to any extent and even he complained about it. The gear feel in the reel was excessive, the bail was VERY hard to trip, and the reel made excessive use of plastic parts. He ended up giving the combo to his scout troop.
  15. I couldn't fish today, so I went out to see if I could find my old friend on page three of this thread. I found him. He was laying out sunning himself. He didn't even protest when I picked him up...
  16. Did you do anything special to it?
  17. Starter boat? First boat? Man, I hope I END my fishing days with a boat like that. ;D
  18. Rooster, man, you did a fantastic job. I love this section of the the forum. There's a lot of talent here. Lot's a good ideas.
  19. WOW, that looks really good! Does it rock when you're on that seat? Don't accidentally touch your legs to the battery terminals. I'd put that battery in a battery box. How is that little Briggs and Stratton engine? They sort of have a cult following here because they are air cooled you can take then through mucky water with no worries.
  20. I have a 15' jon boat that I keep outside 24-7. It's well covered with a cover that hangs almost to the ground on both sides and in the back. Up until this summer I've had a 9.9 hp Mercury that I used on it. I kept that motor in the garage on an outboard cart. It was light enough that putting it on and taking it off for each trip was no problem. But now I've up'd to a 15 hp Merc and it is way heavier. Putting it on and taking it off is a LOT more trouble. I'd like to leave it on my boat through the season, storing it in the garage only during winter. It would stay well covered and would not be exposed to direct sunlight or elements - except summer heat, which I can't do anything about. Are there any special precautions or measures I need to take? I know engines on big boats stay out all the time. Just wondering if there is anything I need to do or haven't thought of. Thanks.
  21. As a matter of fact, I do hug my snakes elsewhere....
  22. And if you have ever been musked or shat upon by a well-fed water snake, you remember it for quite awhile. Watersnake bites always seem to be a little more intense than other snakes. I've been biten by just about every snake I've caught, save the venomous snakes. Watersnakes bite hard, frequently, and the bites seem to bleed and bleed and bleed.
  23. I just thought a guy as well educated as him would want the record set straight. Well then, if he caught a couple of snakes that aren't "water moccassins" (aka water snakes), maybe he has a couple of cottonmouths. If that's the case, I hope he video tapes himself hooking these snakes. Should make for some good entertainment. If you see it all the itme, then you won't have any trouble catching some video. If you can, I know someone who can get you published. Because you will have proven FALSE studies that show that snake mortality due to bass predation is negligible. Bass do not regularly predate on snakes. Thanks for your informative and well proof-read post.
