  1. Look at the date of that article. September 2005. A LOT has changed since then.
  2. Buy. Here in Virginia, where we have a lot of Military, people buy even when they know they are only going to be in a house for a few years. Home prices will bottom out shortly, or may already have. That combined with low interest rates makes it a buyer's market. Buy.
  3. I'm not knocking the Curado. I had two 200DHSVs and thought they were fine reels. But it seems to me you should get more in the 100D for $199 - more than 5 bearings and graphite sideplates on both sides. If that went for $199, what is Shimano going to do to get the price down even further?
  4. Can anyone tell just WHAT the regulations are for herring and shad in VA? I know there is a moretorium on American Shad in all Virginia waters (tidal and above the fall line) except in some south central Virginia rivers. But the regulations for the others are beyond me. The DGIF states that that below the fall line, the VA Marine Resources Commission regulates the take and creel limits on American and Hickory Shad. But the VMRC website ONLY address American Shad and is silent on Hickory Shad. Additionally, the DGIF says the VMRC regulates river herring take (Alewife and Blueback) above and below the fall line, but, again, the VMRC website is silent on this species. Can you keep Hickory Shad? What's the limit on Alewife and Blueback? I've seen people at Walker's Dam filling coolers with blueback. Is there even a limit??
  5. Premier uses different bearings than the other Revos. The Premier uses unshielded HPCR bearings, the other Revos use shielded stainless steel bearings. That probably accounts for the noise. Not once have I ever heard anyone state the noise affects performance. It's just a characterisitic they've noticed. I've heard other reels used by Pros screaming, too, and it must be loud to be picked up by a camera/sound-recorder on another boat. BTW, I've never gotten that noise in any of my Revos, including the S. They will whizz when casting, though.
  6. OK, I got them on. I snipped the tube into 5 equal lenghts and slipped them on the main hook after I put the trailer on. The barb keeps it from sliding off. I'll try this and see if it works well before I try another method. Thanks, folks.
  7. I got a couple of packs of Gamakatsu trailer hooks. Dumb question - do you snip off a piece of the rubber tube that comes with them and slide that on the main hook after you put the trailer hook on?
  8. You won't find a more generous group of people than you will here. But this is your first post, no one knows you, no one knows anything about your bass club. And last tme some one named David solicited equipment, it didn't go well. Maybe once you've establsihed yourself on these boards and people get to know you and what you are all about, someone may step up.
  9. Nice story. I've been impressed with my BPS branded stuff, too.
  10. I suspect that fish was caught in open water, on a boat with an experienced skipper than could manuever or back the boat to keep up with the fish. No one is saying it can't be done. But where he caught that fish, at the sourthern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore, has ferocious currents. And depending where he was, probably structure. He claims he followed the fish. That's difficult to do when you are JUST driving the boat. But he was watching/handling his rod, too. Not saying it can't be done - it can. But that is a super-remarkable feat of fishermanship - way beyond just landing a 50lb fish on 2lb line.

I hadn't heard. Very sad, but what a great legacy. He'll be sadly missed.
  12. I just keep all mine in the bags they came in. I unzip a little, press the air out, zip back up, roll tight, and put them in my 3700 boxes. No problems. I've got plastics that are several years old and are as good as new.
  13. My two lightest rods are a 6'6" ML Fenwick HMX and a 6" L BPS Bionic Blade. I use 6# test on both. I'll got to 4# on the ultralight I get. I'll have to check out the Microlite graphite - soon.
  14. I lost Bomber Fat A at hightide one day a few weeks ago, and found it the next day at low tide. . Lost another Bomber last week. And a Beetle Spin yesterday. I'm actually doing pretty good so far.
  15. The little sponge spiders/ants with the rubber-band legs? Heck yes, I fished with those. I never used the bobber with them, I just whipped them out there the best I could with my old fiberglass spinning rod. That was a killer bait. I used to use poppers, too. I just tied those on and whipped them out there. Never got them far, but never needed to. That ws great fising. I LOVE bluegill fishing. I built up a dedicated panfish tacklebag that's always ready to go. I've got about a dozen or so of those little rebel "bug" lures - the bubble bee, grasshopper, inch worm, tiny crawfish. I've got some of the smallest Rapala originals, and some sinking Rapalas, too. The little BPS XPS Minnows are expesially good. Strike King Bitsy Pond minnows are the bomb. Of course, little 1" grubs are great. And beetle spins. I also pick up the occassional bass on this stuff, too. I need to get an ultraligh rod. I don't have one. I would like to get one of those yellow fiberglass BPS Microlite spinning roods. They're cheap, but it look like a big bluegill on one of those would be a blast.
  16. I fish from the bank about 1/2 the time I fish. Mainly because I decide on the spur of the moment that I want to fish and don't feel like prepping the boat. So grab a rod an a tackle bag and just go. I have a lot of fun fishing from the bank/dock.
  17. I went out yesterday to a local reservoir from about 2:30-5:00 - during a break in the rain. I fished from the bank because there was a tournament going on and too much traffic at the ramp. So I threw my ML spinning outfit and my panfish tacklebag in the truck and went after some bluegill in the quite little cove where they rent boats. I tied a couple of beetle spins an got nothing. Then I started seeing some (small) bass crusing the surface. I changed over to a Rebel Bubble Bee. Tossed that, and got three small bass in about 45 minutes - in addition to a couple of decent bluegill. That Rebel Bubble Bee is a neat little bait. It looks like a crank and you and certainly crank it - it has a superwide wobble. But man, it will respond to even the slightest twitch so you can really make it jiggle on the surface without really moving it forward. It's a bluegill killer. The hooks are way troo small to be a serious bass lure, but it will hook small bass. And even they are fun on light tackle. Pick some up.
  18. I thought Roadwarrior said no more "Glamor Shots." RW's gonna have his way with you for posting a babe picture.
  19. Gotta see this. Make sure you click on the various applet options and 3D movies. Really cool website... 20. From a pier - eel.
  21. That was pretty good. You definately had me going.
