  1. Tomorrow it's supposed to be sunny, 35-39F in the morning with 21 mph winds. As long as it's sunny, I'm heading out. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
  2. Criminy! I was going to go out today but a front just blew through and were having gusts to 50+ mph. There are whitecaps on the puddles in my drive way. >
  3. I don't have those pictures anymore. I hotlinked to them :. The gist of the conversation was that the Recoil guides had about the same hardness as stainless steel guides and were not braid safe. Edit: Nevermind, you posted the same question at Tackle Tour. That's where I saw the pics.
  4. I have a 55# thrust on my 15' and it moves it with authority, even in wind.
  5. I believe the Chonarch has an aluminum crankside sideplate. It's graphite on the Curado 100D (aluminum on the 200D).
  6. The other thing I wanted to check was the notion that it takes more force to move the drag initially (someone termed it "breakaway") than to keep it moving (someone termed it "running drag"). It wasn't the case with my reel. If it took 10 lbs to start the drag, it took 10 lbs to keep it moving. Releasing some pressure, say to 9 lbs, and it stopped.
  7. RW, it's not about practicality. I use 4lbs, too. I was simply trying to see if my reel would generate the advertised drag pressure. It will, IMO. That's the sole point.
  8. I read on another forum some fellow saying the Revo STX only has 10 lbs of "running drag," and the Premier even less. He laments Abu's advertising that the Revo has so much drag. So I decided to test it. I tied the end of the line to my Bogagrip (hardly scientific, but it is certifiable) and tightned the drag. I applied steady (that means slow) pressure until the drag started to slip. The pressure needed to start the drag is the same needed to continue it. If I apply less pressure than it took to start it, it stops. There is no difference. If I set the drag to start at 10 lbs, it starts at 10 lbs. It doesn't keep going at 9 lbs. So it appears the "breakaway drag" and running drag is the same on the reel I'm testing. So I cranked it down some more. I was able to get 10 lbs. Cranked it down some more and got 12 lbs. More and I got 14 lbs. Then I got over 14lbs. At over 14 lbs the line kept pulling off my Bogagrip (there's no real good place to tie it on except around the actuator handle) or the knot kept pulling out. This was on my 7.1:1 reel which is advertised as having 18lbs of drag pressure. I'm confident I could achieve that if I had line that could handle it. While hardly scientific, it does suggest to me that the Revo STX has a drag that is pretty consistent with it's advertised capabilities. It's also suggests to me that Trilene XL 14# breaks over 14 lbs . Not a scientific test, but that's good drag performance (not that you'll ever need it). I was suprised to see that when I set the drag where I like it "by feel" it's only about 4 lbs.
  9. So I can no longer rely on BR for my softcore needs. :'(
  10. Thanks. How do you fish it when water level is 5ft? From shore or the accessible exposed rocks? I like fishing there, but have only been a few times, when the water was around 3.5 feet.
  11. I have both of my Revo Ss on All Star American Classic 6'8" MH/F (AC SBR2) rated for 10-20lb line and 3/8-1 oz lures. I just got these two rods a few months ago. But I've had a Team All Star IM10 in the same length/power/action for some time and have used it pretty heavily. This is a "spinnerbait" rod according to All Star, but it's an all-around rod for me. The tip is a little on the soft side. Of course, it handles spinner baits very well. But I've use it for jerkbaits, plastics, big cranks, jigs, and have even used it for frogs (though the tip's wee bit too soft to be ideal for that, but it works in a pinch). The American Classic series by All Star is a great line. The rods are sensitive and brute strong. They run in the high $80s to $90s.
  12. What's the water level and water temps at Pony Pasture? Were you wading?

    Carhart relaxed fit. Or Redhead.
  14. I depends on if I could find carp that weren't semi-tame. We have some around here that will literally eat out of your hands. If I knew of some that were truly wild, as I understand truly wild carp are very spooky fish, I probably would.
  15. Either size. I found this in the Hampton, Virginia store. I can't seem to find the Fat Rap or Glass fat Rap on BPS's website anymore. Pretty good deal if you have a BPS near you.
  16. Even if it does have 24 lbs of drag force, you'll never use anything close to that much.
  17. I haven't actually fished with my Revo Ss yet, but I've been casting them and they are impressive. You are not losing anything by buying a Revo S instead of an SX or STX. In fact, the S may actually be a wee bit better because it seems to me the brake may be a little more effective. I really like the S so far.
  18. He was the consummate sportsman. He's going out on top.
  19. All Star American Classic AC FRH 7'6" H/XF. About $90.
  20. That's right. I sent an e-mail to Abu a few days ago asking about the "performance upgrades" section on their website that is still not completed. I asked what they were planning on offering. The first thing he mentioned were 5.4:1 gears that are available now for the Revo. You can order them from Abu just like any other part.
  21. I'd like some more, but I'm tapped out. I looked on Cabelas site a few weeks ago and they were out of stock. None of the stores around hear have the plain Fat Raps - including BPS. I'm just going to use what I have and hope I don't lose any.
  22. Stetson - occassionally. Been wearing Stetson for years, and years, and years. The only lady I care about loves it (I know, she gets it for me).
  23. No, he's not referring to the Dives To (DT) Fats. These are what he's referring to... Fat Rap I have a few of the Fat Raps. I picked up a bunch of the Glass Fat Raps a few months ago at BPS when they were on clearance for $4 each.
