  1. You are supposed to spray it on your line, not your jeans. God knows you don't need help with your jean slipping down revealing butt-crack. Seriously, though. I didn't see much benefit from it, either. Maybe a little, but not enough that if I didn't know it was on the line that I would have said "Hey, what's up with this line!" I did spray it on some 8lb test Trilene XL that I had on a spinning reel. What I did notice is that I had a lot of line twist issues - more than usual. I just don't experience issues that necessitate the use of this product. My casting distance is fine and memory in the line is not that big of an issue. What I do do is wipe my rods down with a damp cloth after fishing with them, dry them, then wipe them down, including the guides, with Lemon Pledge. I will also wipe down the reels. It does make the guides slick and smells pretty. A lot of saltwater fishermen I know use Lemon Pledge since it will counteract salt.
  2. This is my bombdiggity bait. The Spider Slider head with a Roboworm. In this case, a 6" straight tail. It has a very slender profile and works exceptionally well with this head. I also fish the 4.5" verson on this head, but like the 6" better. I've fished Zoom Finesse Worms on these heads, too, and done reasonably well. But they are at the upper extreme of size for this head.
  3. I do, and it's a killer technique. Though I don't use slider worms. I use 4.5" - 6" straight tail Roboworms and occassionally Zoom Finesse worms. I use the 1/16oz and 1/8oz Pro heads. I like to toss them near dock pilings so that they slow sink. I've picked up a lot of good bass doing that. It is definitely as finesse as finesse gets. I use a medium/fast spinning rod with 8lb test, and sometimes that's too heavy. But it does a give a semi-reasonable chance of getting a bass out from underneath a dock or pier.
  4. I usually wet my hat in the water where I fish.
  5. Either that, or I'm thinking about making my first JDM acquisition. I'm holding off on a new reel until I see what's coming out at ICAST.
  6. I can't even remember when I started fishing. My earliest memories are from the very early '70s (maybe '71 or '72) fishing at Lake Maury in Newport News, VA. I remember falling on rocks and cracking my lip. I remember my forst rod and reel - a Ted Williams brand bait caster (yellow and brown colored), and a yellow Ted Williams fiberglass rod with like 3 or 4 guides on it. I used the old, black, polyester braided fishing line. Always fished with a hook and a sinker. Caught a lot of catfish that way. My first spinning rod was a 6' glass Ted Williams spinning rod (which I still have), and a black Garcia Mitchell spinning reel. This was the first rod and reel that I used mono with. I remember it was the first rod that I ever was able to cast any real distance. This was the combo that got me started bass fishing. This must have been in the mid '70s. By this time was caught up in fishing shows. I wanted a real "bass" bait caster. I saved my money, $25 (a lot back then) and my mom took me to K-Mart and I bought the first reel I ever bought for myself. A red Abu Ambassasdeur reel. I can't remember the model. But I remember it had little wooden brake weights. I also bought a pistol grip rod (with alligator skin textured grip). So now I had my bait caster and spinning rod combos. I fished them a lot. Back in these days, in my neck of the woods, you either fished Garcia or Daiwa. No one fished Shimano. I didn't even know what Shimano was. I dabbled some with artificial baits. My first real addition to artificials were Mepps spinners. I caught tons of fish on Mepps spinners. Every time I went shopping, and had some change, I'd buy Mepps spinners. As I entered my teens, I bought more Abu reels - some spinning, some round bait casters. These are what I used through college until I got married. I had the fortune (or misfortune) of marrying into a family that did a lot of saltwater fishing. My father-in-law had a big Wellcraft, and my brother-in-law had a big Robalo. I ended up giving, or selling, most of my bass gear away. I started to collect saltwater gear. I did that for a few years until my first son came along. By then I couldn't really afford the gas and time of going out on big boats. So I started to get back into bass fishing. I sold a lot of my saltwater stuff and started to re-collect bass equipment. I bought more Abu reels, and a few Daiwas. And I started reading a lot more expanding on my abilities. That's the road I've been on, and am still traveling. This website has exposed me to different equipment and piqued my interested in trying new things. I hope that continues.
  7. Haven't heard much about the new President baitcaster. I played with one at BPS. Man, it's a solid feeling reel. Great ergonomics (ie palmability), just like the Patriarch. Pflueger has dispensed with the magnetic portion of the brake system, and now its only centrifugal. And they are alot easier to adjust than on any other centrifugal brake I've tried. The pins are metal, unlike on the Revo S. According to the Pflueger website, it has brass gearing - an upgrade over the old President which was aluminum (I think). And the spool holds a reasonable amount of line (100 yards of 12lb), less than the Revo and Curado. This is one sweet reel. http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/products.php?p=3
  8. And All Star's site is tantamount to false advertising. The site still says the Platinum and Team All Stars are still made in Houston. They've been produced in China for some time now.
  9. ...suck. Just my rendom thoughts... Abu Garcia: the website is hard to navigate. It has tiny pictures of products. Some of the information on reels is plain wrong (ie. bearing counts for EXT reels). A potential buyer gets a better look at, and a better decscription of, an Abu product from a retailer's website. Fenwick: That website is optimally viewed at 600x400 resolution. It doesn't even fill the screen. And forget seeing that their products look at. You click on a product to view it, and you get a thumbnail. You can scarcely find a picture of a Fenwick product on the web. That's a shame. Some of the best rods out there and this is the way Pure Fishing advertises them. Pflueger: there's a little hope here. At least you can navigate the site. Pictures are decent. But how about a little better closeups? And may 3 views of the reels? Here's to hope that Pure Fishing puts some thought into the sorry state of their websites.

  11. Seems like there is a whole new category of rods - Recession Rods. Mojo, Bucoo, Vendetta and whatever Lamiglass chooses to call theres.
  12. It's gonna be hard choosing a new rod... http://tackletog.com/cal/2009/07/10/tt-producttpreview-new-rods-from-lamiglas/
  13. I suspect the Revo may go to an 8-magnet set up in the US. Pfluegers, Revos and Johnny Morris' borrow heavily from Pinnacles. This is Pinnacles new system...
  14. This is the ticket... Zillion High Power
  15. There is only one screw next to the pinion gear that needs to come out.
  16. Don't start prying, or you'll break something. Take the brakeside sideplate off first. Remove the spool. Take the handle and drag star off, and KEEP THE WASHERS THAT COME OFF IN ORDER. Once this is done, you can take the crankside sideplate off. There are two screws on the outside, and one on the inside of the frame. If you don't remove this, the sideplate won't come off. Look at picture # 17 in this series. In fact, study these series of photos before taking you reel apart. Keep those washers that come off the shaft in order. http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/fishing-reels/91795-ambassaduer-revo-inshore-rebuild.html
  17. Get it right. It's a Johnnybu Pflorris Revoarch.
  18. Not only is it sufficient, I prefer it to braid. 15lb YZ Hybrid breaks at 21.5 lbs. So it is plenty strong. It has less stretch than mono so you can get strong hooksets. But it has more stretch than braid, so you can crank your drag down. The line is slick and it is stiffer than braid. It slips through muck and weeds. It doesn't get wrapped around every little sprig, spout, leaf, weed, cattail, chunk of bark, and duck-blind splinter. So you won't need braid's so-called wonderous "cutting" ability. I've stopped using braid all together and ONLY use Yo-Zuri Hybrid 15lb for frogging.
  19. If you have your receipt, I would think Cabelas would satisfy you. BPS no, Cabelas yes.
  20. Since you have to send it somewhere, I'd send it to Fenwick. I've used Fenwicks warranty on an HMG that I broke and the experience was very good. Edit: I just assumed you had to send it to Cabelas. If you are near Cabelas and can drive there, I'd take it back and see if they will exchange it.
  21. I definately want a soft cover, because I want it OFF most of the time and I don't want to store a big, full sized cover.
  22. Alright, Pflueger, hows about a burner model in black, and a cranking reel in red? Since these reels seem to borrow heavily from Pinnacles, I wonder if they will start using Pinnacle's new 8 magnet system.
  23. There are still a lot of Curados still sitting around new in stores. You don't have to buy off the internet if you don't want to. Once the Curado E was introduced, some dealers got stuck with the older (and better) Ds that just won't sell. Many have slashed prices on them. I'd recommend you look around near your home. Or you can call this dealer. http://hookerbaitandtackle.net/ This store is near me. Last time I was there, he still had some Curado 200DPVs. You can call and see if he had any, and if he'll cut the price. (If he doesn't, I'd thank him and then look somewhere else.) I definately would not pay as much for a D model as the new E costs.
  24. If it's near Burley, it's a full day's drive for me. Burley's like 300 miles from me.
  25. Tackle Tog's sound bite is a little confusing. Are those the "two" new rods he's talking about? Or is Abu introducing the "Vendetta" line and some other line? Who knows.
