We have to fish in Virginia because our girls are ugly.

Something different about the forums?
If I try to highlight something then right-click to copy-and-paste, nothing happens. If I try to copy a URL to a picture on my webspace and try to paste it to a post, I can't do it. I have to type in the whole URL. Maybe that is working for some people. It seems to have been disabled for others. It's just happening on this website.

Rapala's new Clackin' Rap
I'm not saying it's bad. I really didn't have a chance to fish it much. I suspect it will turn out to be a good bait. I let it sink in cold water to see how it stands on the bottom and it does stand relatively on its nose. Here's a pic. Sorry, I couldn't find anything clear that was deep enough, but I think you can see it enough to get a good idea how it stands.

If they really are not stocking trout In Some Cali lakes anymore
Oh, this is beautiful. Grebes? Here in Virginia, the Grebes don't give a rat's arse whether you are on the lake or not. I saw dozens of them this week and they have this weird ability - they swim out of your way when you come towards them, and back after you leave.

I suspect your trout swimbaits will work well for many years to come.

Something different about the forums?
I notice I can no longer "right click" on the site. I tried to edit a post and insert a URL address into a post and could not right click. Am I the only one, or is this a new change to the site?

Alright, no more questions about Daiwa's Fuego!
Alright, I did it. I walked into my favorite tackle/gun shop to look for a gun safe for my father-in-law. I walked back to the fishing section and saw something that wasn't there earlier this week. A "Sale" sign on the Fuego. Regularly $199.99 ($229 msrp), on clearance for $149.99. I asked if that was for the display model and I was told "No," it was on all the Fuegos they had in stock. They had nine. At $149, I bought two. How can you pass that up? They told me "it just hasn't sold very well." Lucky me! BTW, the store is Greentop in Glen Allen, VA (near Richmond, VA). You can do limited buying on-line, but if you call them they will sell over the phone and will ship to you. $149 for a $229 reel. That's a incredible deal. 7 left.... www.greentophuntfish.com

Rapala's new Clackin' Rap
I hadn't seen the video. See how it sinks? Like a sinker, straight nose down. I think it will turn out to be a good bait. It will just take some getting used to since it behaves unlike most other lipless. It's a great looking bait and definitely looks chunky.

Enough is enough is enough....
You're right. Ironic. They even call them "doorbuster deals." How prophetic.

What's the best reel for the money?
The Revo S is a fanatastic reel and represents the best value in the Revo line. It does everything virtually as well as the SC/SX/STX. Set up is a little different with the S than the others, but it will cast everything the others do just as well. It's also built exceptionally well and backed by Abu's excellent customer service.

Question about my Revo S
Or you can do what Cart does. Get someone else to cast it, then hand the rod to you.

Alright, no more questions about Daiwa's Fuego!
I'm this close |..| to pulling the trigger on a Daiwa Fuego baitcaster. I want it for a 6'6" M rod that I use to cast lighter cranks and topwaters. But I'm concerned about how well it will handle baits down to 1/4 oz. Thoughts?

The coldest water you can consistently catch LMB
Loosing spoons and I go together. It's one of he reason I never fish them. I will pick up some Silver Buddies and try them like you said. Everything you said about seeing baitfish on my finder is exactly what I saw last time I was out.

5Bass. How do you jig? I mean, I know how to jig, but how do you do it? Straight up and down around the baitfish?
-
What annoys you?
Crappie fisherman who who motor right up to the structure you are fishing and sit on it for hours then show off their way-over-the-limit catch at the dock.

Rapala's new Clackin' Rap
Earlier this week I tried Rapala's new Clackin' Rap. I didn't catch any fish on them, but I did get an initial impression of them. First, it's a heavy lipless. It's 7/8 oz. It seems very nose-heavy, more so than any other lipless I've fished. It sinks incredibly fast, nose first almost in a vertical dive. I don't know how many people ever jig a lipless. But I do occassionally with Rat-L-Traps and it's productive under the right conditions. But I don't think the Clackin' Rap is suitable for that due to its incredibly fast, nose first dive. You have to see it. Rat-L-Traps sink fast, but the Clackin' Rap sinks like a lead sinker. Second, it's a big bait. Not so much long as thick. It's almost twice as thick as the Lucky Craft LVR D-10 lipless. It definately presents as a beefy baitfish. Third, the clacking part seems more subtle. It has a sound chamber with what sounds like a single , or maybe two, beads. It does rattle, but it doesn't have that "gravel in a tin can" sound of Rat-L-Trap, Yo-Zuri, or LC. You can very barely hear it as you reel it up (I can hear a Rat-L-Trap or Yo-Zuri many feet from my boat). Fourth, it doesn't cast like a bullet like a Rat-L-Trap. It casts a long way, but it doesn't seem to cast in the same manner as other lipless cranks. I never caught the front hook on the line, though, so I found the casting is acceptable. Fifth, the action is more subtle. You have to burn it to get it going. I tried retrieving it on my crank outfit (7'3" MH/MF rod, 5.4:1 reel) and it seem very actionless unless I really cranked it fast. Like most lipless, I think it will do much better on a faster outfit. Sixth, it has a nice finish and outstanding hooks. It sports Rapala's current treand of a transparent body with a reflective insert. I have no doubt this lure will stand up well over time. The hook are sticky-sharp VMCs, a sure-set on the bottom, and a regular treble on the rear. I don't know quite what to make of it yet. It seems substantially different from other lipless cranks. I suspect with time it will either come across as very refined or full-of-suck. Might make a very good striper bait. It definately looks like a substantial meal. Lucky Craft for comparison...

Anyone know this swimbait?
Isn't it obvious?

Suspending Jerk Baits
Yes, the Mask. Looked sort of gimmicky. I've been wanting to try some Jackall jerkbaits. The Smash and Squad look interesting. What about the Squirrel? I really like the size of that bait. Have you used that?
-
Cool little details in Megabass baits
For the price, I'm expecting to catch a bass on each hook on every cast.

Suspending Jerk Baits
TRig, do you like any of the Jackall jerkbaits? I see they make a soft-bodied jerkbait and wonder if you've tried it.
-
Suspending Jerk Baits
Are you comparing suspending models? Castability with the suspending Bombers is very good and one of the thing I like about them. The floating models, obviously, don't cast as well.

The coldest water you can consistently catch LMB
Yes, fishing from a boat. I'm finding fish holding at anywhere from 15-25 feet in 25-30 feet of water. They are holding around hard structure and what look like tall weeds. And yes, there ae always very small signatures that look like small fish, and other signatures that look like bunched baitfish. So I'm confident I've found bass, and not catfish or bowfin. I talked to my tackleshop owner friend and he stated lots of fishermen were having luck jigging "Silver Buddies" straight down into the bunched up fish. It saw these flat, crude jigs and I'm wondering if that might be worth a try. I think it's consistent with what 5Bass was saying, even if it isn't exactly the same lure. http://www.silverbuddy.com/
