Suspending Jerk Baits
I have, and they are very good. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they are the standard jerkbait my which all others are judged. I've caught a lot of fish on Bomber Long As. Particularly good are the Tim Horton Long As - nice finishes and great hooks. They have a tight wobble and you can get them going very easily. They suspend where they stop. They also jerk very widely, more so than any Lucky Craft I've tried. Mostly, I've been buying Japanese baits at 3X the cost of the Bomber Long A. But I doubt any of the ones I've bought will ever produce as well as the inexpensive, "lowly" Long A. It's a classic, and it's a classic because it flat-out works. If you've never tried one, you're missing out on one of the great lures of all time.

Recoil guides and heavy cover
If the rod is suitable, the REC guides should be. I had a Johnny Morris Elite HM/F 7' that I used for heavy plastics and it worked fine. I never particularly cared for the guides. I know some people that think they are just fine with braid, but I've seen some pictures of REC guides that were grooved by braid.

Cool little details in Megabass baits
I've learned it is common to all Ito Tuned Megabass baits. Sebile lures have something similar. If you look closely at the eyeball of a Sebile bait, the little white "e" in a red square is in the eye.

Richmond Fishing Expo
Sam, maybe we can get Glenn to make this thread a sticky in this forum. BTW, here's the menu for the restaurant at the Richmond Bass Pro Shop. I went there today for the first time. It's a lot bigger and nicer than the one in Hampton.

Cool little details in Megabass baits
I'll tell you this spring. I've been told it has a very tight wobble - more subtle than the pointer, and that it jerks very widely from side to side.

Cool little details in Megabass baits
I was looking closely at the eyes on my Megabass Vision 110s and noticed a little blur. I photographed them and they appear to be a Japanese character. They are same on all the eyes so it definitely appear intentional.

Thanksgiving, The True Story
It is a good post, RW. (I agree with you more than you think ). Speaking of presidential proclamations, Lincoln's Proclamation that set the day as the last Thursday in November is my favorite. Lincoln had an uncanny ability to say what needed to be said, just the way it needed to be said, without saying too much or too little. Proclamation of Thanksgiving BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. A PROCLAMATION. The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theater of military conflict; while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battlefield; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed, Done at the city of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the Eighty-eighth

winter jig trailers
RW's recommendations got me to try Paca Chunks, and they worked great yesterday in 41 degree water. Granted, all I caught was bowfin and blue catfish, but they produced when nothing else did. They smell pretty good, too. I never fished jigs all that much, but really tried it in earnest over the spring, summer and fall and the Netbaits have worked better for me than anything else.

Hard Swimbaits
I think so, too. Took me forever to get that color. It was on back-order at Tackle Warehouse for months. When it sinks, it rests on it's hooks, too. At least in a fishtank it does.

I have some Daichii Butt Draggers that say "Made in USA."

Hard Swimbaits
I got a couple of those 4" shads. I can't wait to try them. Here is a sweet little hard swimbait by Jackall. These things are really nice. The sink very horizontally.

Revo Inshore line guide insert??
Teri is the woman at Abu that answers the emails. Give them a call and order it from the states. Again, I don't think you can order just an insert. The guide piece and eye are one part according to the parts schematic.
-
Revo Inshore line guide insert??
Go ahead and fish with it until you get the part. It has to be replaced anyway. I don't think you can order just the eye. I think you have to order the whole guide (part# 1128193). The coldest water you can consistently catch LMB
In years past, the water temp was normally in the lower 50s, high 40s, this same time of year. I think the fish are in the same place. The deepest part of this lake is where I was fishing. I saw incredible numbers of fish on my finder bunched up around deep structure. This time last year I caught fish on that structure. This time nothing. I think the only difference in the water temp. Could be wrong, though.

The coldest water you can consistently catch LMB
What are you getting them with in temps that low? The water today never made it to 42 degrees. That's really cold for this time of year where I am. Water around here usually only gets down to 41 in the dead of winter (Jan or Feb), after I've usually hung it up for the season. I tried jigs (blue/black with okeechobee Paca Chunks and blue/green Berkley Craws). I tried carolina rigging blue/green 7" Rage Anacondas. And, of course, deep diving cranks. All I got was a few blue cats and a bowfin on the jigs (one hit on the rage tail, which I'm assuming was another blue cat). I know where the fish are because I've killed them this time of year in years past. I just couldn't buy a bite today. It's too early to give up bass fishing for the year.

God made Bowfin...
I was fishing adjacent to a dam, with water going anywhere from 8-30 feet. He came out of about 18 feet of water, which is, by far, the deepest I've ever caught a bowfin. There was some structure. He was also near the upstream end of a fish ladder.

The coldest water you can consistently catch LMB
What's the coldest water in which you can consistently catch LMB? We'll define consistently as at least a few decent sized bass on a bass technique (not as a bycatch while jigging for crappie) for an average outing. For my neck of the woods, once the water temps drop much below 50, the fish seem to get lock-jaw. I might be able to pick up a few in the high 40s, but otherwise, I usually wash out. Anyone have the same experience? If not, what's your cold-water technique?
