Briery Creek Lake...
How about some advice on shore-fishing this lake? I have a friend who's young son will be fishing there this weekend. Any advice on areas or techniques from the shore would be great. I've never fished it so I can't offer him much advice.

For the Revo lovers...
I don't think that's color case hardening. It looks more like some trick titanium deposition or anodization finish.

I have narrowed it down to these two
Yep, I was wondering where that post went. ;D

Loosen the knurled chrome screw head on the reel handle side. It won't come all the way out. Once you've loosened it, rotate the sideplate on the brakeside clockwise about 1/8 of a turn. The sideplate will come off. Then you can adjust the brakes.

Most Over Rated Lure(s)
Luck E Strike Bass Magic swimbaits. Just threw a bunch of them in the trash. They stink, and you have to really retrieve the hell out of them to get any sort of action. Big waste of time and money.

what is your favorite spinning reel
I had a Spirex but gave it away because it was heavy as a brick. I'm and Abu Garcia fan and like their spinning reels. But the new line of Shimanos are nice. Look at the new Symetre. It's a nice reel.

Another vote for the Revo S. Among the most versatile LPs available. Excellent quality and great customer support.

discovered: new pflueger president2
Now that Abu and Flooger are both owned by Pure Fishing, is suspect similarities are more than just incidental. Bob Hulme, Service Manager for Abu, told me the service center for Abu and Flooger are going to be at the same place - Pure Fishing World HG in Iowa.

I saw that today. Then I checked the Pflueger website and it's not listed there, yet. It's a great looking reel. And that is a killer price. Looks like Pflueger is going aggressive. The new Patriach and now the Prez2. Awesome looking reels, and no doubt great performers. Pure Fishing must be trying to save on manufacturing costs. That screw that holds the side plate was an original on the Revo, now Pflueger/BPS reels are heading that way.

revo s any good??
Not that simple. The SR Revo has the InfiniSpool system, the SX does not.

revo s any good??
I own all the Revos, except the Skeet Reese and Inshore. The S is a fantastic reel. It is built as well as any of them and performs as well as any of them, even the STX. The only drawback is the brake, which is much less convenient to adjust than the SC/SX/STX. If you prefer the externally adjustable magnetic brake, then I recommend the Revo SC, a Cabelas exclusive. The SC is merely an S, except it has a magnetic brake and is painted red. I have two of these and they are truly fantastic reels. No matter which Revo you choose, you will end up with a great reel.

Ghosts? Hauntings?
I've had two odd experiences on some state-owned land in Charles City County, Virginia. Both occurred on the Chickahominy Wildlife Management Area (WMA). A few years ago I had arrived at the WMA at about a 4:45 AM. I was spring-turkey hunting and had parked my truck at the shooting range. I walked about 3/4 mile or so down a gravel road to the "dove fields." At the back end of the dove fields there used to be an old house and barn. Some remnants of the house are still there, the barn has been torn down, and the silo still stands. There is a large oak tree at the end of the gravel road, and I suspect it may have been in the "front yard" of the house that used to stand there. Anyways, I was alone. I had my Remington SP-10 10 gauge with me - not much makes me nervous with that. It was pretty cold, and the moon was high and bright. It was very clear. I walked to the end of the gravel road and stood by the oak tree. I was relieving myself under the shelter of the tree. I looked down the trail that I had just traveled and saw a red light, very subtle, and very diffuse. It was round, about 4-5 feet off the ground. If was brighter in the center, and faded on the edges. I figured it was the taillights of a truck that was pulling into the little parking area. But the light never went out, and I heard no sounds. Then I realized the light was coming towards me. Then I decided if must be a red flashlight another hunter was using as he came down the trail. But the trail was gravel and the sound carries, and this was totally silent. The light kept coming. No sound, no shaking, and nothing that looked like ti was being shone off to the side like a person carrying a flashlight might do. The light kept coming and finally it appeared to be about 50 yards or so from me. The light then drifted off to my left. It hovered across the field and faded out as it reached the wood line. It it faded, it didn't get switched off. I never heard any sound, and had it been someone walking, I would have heard it. I would have been able to see them too, given that the moon was so bright. I was totally dumbfounded. I still don't know what I saw. My second experience wasn't more than a 100 yard or so from that same tree. Thsi time it was fall and I was squirrel hunting. I had passed the tree and made a left and walked into the back fields. There is a small trail there than leads back to Morris Creek. There's lots of hardwoods back there, and lots of squirrels. It was morning, and she sky was just turning orange in the east. I went back to a hardwood stand and chose my seat. It was pretty still. As I sat there, I began to hear voices. It got louder when I realized that I was hearing a conversation between a man and woman. It was as if they were 10 feet away. But there was no one. I couldn't make out what they were saying. But it was very clearly a two-way conversation between a man and woman. I stood up. I could see the Chickahominy River through the trees and deducted there must be some atmospheric anomaly that was allowing sound to carry across the river - there is a house across the river. But that's quite a distance, more than a mile. The conversation continued for what I'm guessing was 15 minutes. I was listening to it like it was happening right next to me. But there was no one around. And I never could understand what was being said, as if there language was completely foreign to me. Laugh if you want. But I'm the most skeptical person around. And these things were really weird and still cannot beging to explain them. The land on which this happened has a long history. Captain John Smith explored it. Indians lived there before Europeans arrived. I guess if a place can be haunted, it would be as good as any.

Quantum or Daiwa?
I know what you are going to say...Zillion rods. I gotta admit, I played around with a Zillion a week or so ago and it is not only one great performing rod, but one of the prettiest I've seen (I absolutely love the look). Killer reel seat. I messed around with an Iconelli rod, too. Not nearly as impressive as the Zillion.

Quantum or Daiwa?
Glade might smell better, but a fart's more fun. You can't light glade.

For the Revo lovers...
Any idea, Robert, where the handle and drag-star is available? Definitely has a cool Daiwa look to it.

For the Revo lovers...
It is, indeed, sweet looking.

Standard spool Patriarch?
Patriarch 64WLP - 160/12, 130/14, 90/17 6.4:1 ratio. 8.4oz. Good swimbait reel?

Standard spool Patriarch?
The Pflueger website doesn't list a narrow and a wide spool reel. They list 2 reels, but with different speeds. But the spool capacities are the same. http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/products.php?p=56

Stocks Surge!
But if you can stay in, then stay in. There might have been a big climb today, but we are still way below the nearly 12,000 we were at less than 3 months ago. Unless you bought in well below 9,000, you are going to lose money pulling out now. If you are older, it may be a consideration, but for long term investors the best bet IMO is to stay and and keep buying. I'm convinced that there is big money to be made in all this. It is inevitable the DJ will eventually climb back to 12,000 and more. It may take awhile, but it is going to happen. The reason this all happened is because there was a rush on cheap stock that has been battered and dumped by those that panicked. Good move for those that bought. It would have been better had they bought when then Dow was well below 8,000. But buying now is still a good move. Here are some very recent words of wisdom from Warren Buffet... I've been buying American stocks. This is my personal account I'm talking about, in which I previously owned nothing but United States government bonds. (This description leaves aside my Berkshire Hathaway holdings, which are all committed to philanthropy.) If prices keep looking attractive, my non-Berkshire net worth will soon be 100 percent in United States equities. Why? A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. And most certainly, fear is now widespread, gripping even seasoned investors. To be sure, investors are right to be wary of highly leveraged entities or businesses in weak competitive positions. But fears regarding the long-term prosperity of the nation's many sound companies make no sense. These businesses will indeed suffer earnings hiccups, as they always have. But most major companies will be setting new profit records 5, 10 and 20 years from now. Let me be clear on one point: I can't predict the short-term movements of the stock market. I haven't the faintest idea as to whether stocks will be higher or lower a month or a year from now. What is likely, however, is that the market will move higher, perhaps substantially so, well before either sentiment or the economy turns up. So if you wait for the robins, spring will be over. ... Over the long term, the stock market news will be good. ... Today people who hold cash equivalents feel comfortable. They shouldn't. They have opted for a terrible long-term asset.... Equities will almost certainly outperform cash over the next decade, probably by a substantial degree. ... Today my money and my mouth both say equities.

Help with a Jackal Mikey Sr.
If you are handy with a dremel, try this: Take a CD case and cut a couple of squares out of it. Glue them together to make them thicker (and stronger, too). The sand it to shape and glue it in the slot. (I just made this up . It might actually work, though.)

Abu Ambassadeur
Round C series Ambs are a different animal than the Revos. I recommend starting and sticking with the Revo if that's where you want to end up anyway. There isn't much the older Cs can do that the Revo can't. The Revo will handle lighter baits better, too. You can find "new in box" Revo Ss for under $100 on ebay. (Avoid "factory reconditioned" reels. From what I understand, that "factory" may have been someone's garage.) BTW, the Berkley Lightning rod is generally considered to be a very good rod, especially given its low price.
