Help: Hookup Problems with Ribbits
Fish seem to hold on to ribbits when they get them. Did you get any return customers after they missed?

Does anyone know anything about these batteries?
Dougherty, I don't know how you find this stuff, but thank you very much.

Engine idles smoothly, shifts into gear but sometimes doesn't get up to speed. ideas?
Thanks olebiker. "Not necessarly. When the hub spins you will still have some power, the hub can slip and keep the boat from having enough power to put the boat on plane. The RPMs will go up, but it will lose the power at the prop as it tends to slip instead of turning the prop correctly." The boat has gotten up on plane. It feels more bogged down and not making power, than losing power at the prop.

Not sure what a group 24 marine battery is but I think I'm ok running maybe a 36 # max trolling motor off two of these hooked in parallel if they are 64 ah. So charge as deep cycle? Thank you Wayne and Dougherty.

I will do the line test next time out. Excuse me if I'm way off here, as I'm new to outboards, but wouldn't a spun hub mean I would have no power? Or is that worst case scenario? "Same symptoms were happening to my 25hp 4 stroke yamaha. Luckily for me all it was were the spark plugs. It started fine, It idled fine, On wide open throttle it would just not go. Changed the spark plugs and she was back to normal." New plugs went in on sunday. 50:1 ratio. Check the new plugs, some wetness on the threads, none on the electrodes. Might be a little rich? I cleaned the fuel filter today, wasn't dirty, but what the heck.

Another frog thread: SPRO
http://www.***.com/descpageHDTSNAG-SPPTF.html "Owner hooks will help you put more fish in the boat..." If the fish are blowing up on or around the frog, but not hitting it try this. After the blow up wait a second, give a few twitches, and they'll come back. If they had it in there mouth, bit down and spit it, it's probably game over for that fish. Don't mean to be a jerk Dave, but I really like snag proof's Bobby's Perfect frog. I used to be in the spro camp, but I gave the two away that I had after trying Bobby's perfect frog. Same gammy hook, but the bell and softer body won me over to Bobby's side.

Engine idles smoothly, shifts into gear but sometimes doesn't get up to speed. ideas?
1981 70hp evinrude outboard I took her out for our first run together this season and this was happening. Starts quickly and idles well. When I shift into forward and start to throttle up I'd get up to 10mph or so but not accelerate any more, even at wide open. It's not sputtering, dieing, gaining and losing power, etc. I barge around for a bit before settling in to fish for a little while. After I'm done, engine starts right up I shift into forward and idle around for a few minutes before trying accelerate. This time I start to accelerate and the engine starts to rev up, sluggishly, and I top out around 25-28 mph. Unfortunately my tach. isn't working, so when I hit top speed I'm quickly throttling down to 3/4 or less. I have a 15 pitch prop and brand new, the engine comes with a 17. I was really expecting to have a higher top end than 28mph with a 70hp engine on a 16 foot aluminum boat (sea nymph, model # FM - 161). Any ideas gang?

Came with the boat I bought last fall. Best way to charge, optimal usage, etc... Thanks edit: tried a google search and didn't come up with much

setting the hook with 10" worms
Instead of inserting the head of the worm to the bend and the coming out, could you slide the head of the worm around the bend of the hook farther before poking out? Is this only making sense in my head because it's 12:30 am?

Fisher 1538 project boat
Find the model number and find out what year it is. Then call up some local marina's to see if they carry it. If you don't have any marina's nearby or you don't like their prices, go to amazon.com and do a search for Evinrude 30hp (year) or (model Number) service manual. It won't be the exact manual, but read some reviews and you should be able to find something to suit your needs. If you feel that you need the exact manual you can go to the evinrude site, go to FAQ, find "Where do I find service manual etc. for older engines?" They link you to Ken Cook something or other, I look on there for mine and it seemed really expensive. Probably cheaper to just have a marina order a copy of their service manual.

Help me unlock the pattern here please!
Stephen, Buzzbaits, chatterbaits, big spinnerbaits, horny toads, and 6"-7" senkos are all BIG fish baits. Considering that you're fishing what I guess to be a small body of water that gets a lot of pressure, I think you need to scale down and slow down. The Texas guys have listed some great baits, but I think you need to walk before you start running. Catch em up on small worms before throwing the big ones. These fish have grown up in dingy water and have had to find food in low visibility there whole lives. I know this is kind of obvious, but I thought I should bring it up as the fish will not be affected as those that live in normally clear water that is suddenly muddied. You don't necessarily need to throw the big baits for them to find them. Always assume that the bass can see farther in stained water than you can. You see 3, they see 5 etc. Try black and blue, greenpumpkin with a chartreuse tail for softplastics. I think these should get you some action, slow down and let the fish find them. 4" blk/blu tube, t-rigged or on a light jig head depending on the cover. baby brush hog in green pumpkin cart. tails weightless 4" or 5" slim senko, wacky or trigged depending on cover. 6" trick worm on a light jig head Pick a target and really soak it before moving on. Good luck

Is it possiably?
Depending on how much you're leaking, a bilge buddy hand pump might save you a few $ $ $. They can move a good amount of water too.

Boat wiring question, what to connect to which batter?
The two identical batteries that I have would be connected in parrallel to run the trolling motor. Fishfinders, bilge and livewell pumps, running lights, would be run off the cranking battery. I hadn't considered the backup idea and finding out that one of my fishfinders is dead (old cheap fish eagle that came with the boat), I wouldn't be running much extra off the cranking battery.

Swimming senko vs senko
I went out yesterday and fished the swimming senko (1/8 oz screw in bullet, 4/O hook) while my buddy fished the original senko. He was out fishing me 5 to 1! Seemed like everytime I looked over his line was jumping. They just weren't that interested in the swimming version on that day. I can't wait until the grass grows up, I think that's when this bait will really shine. Had one come back without a tail, obviously pickerel.

drop shotting at night
When I think night fishing I think bigger baits that are louder and move more water. They're easier for the fish to see and hear. I've never tried dropshotting at night so who knows. Some old standbys for night fishing for me have been: 5/8 oz jointed black jitterbug, or the size smaller black spook jr, or spook black buzzbait pop-r 1/2 oz black and blue spinnerbait with a # 5 or 6 colorado blade wide wobbling crankbaits with rattles 6" dark senko type bait black and blue jigs with rattles T-rigged 7"+ curly tailed worms Conditions permitting I would fish topwater right up until it gets dark out, switch to a jig, trigged worm, or a weightless senko if the topwater bite dies. If they're not on topwater, or taking the baits sluggishly, I'd search with a slowrolled spinnerbait.

Boat wiring question, what to connect to which batter?
I'm starting to mod/rebuild my boat and am rewiring all the electronics. I'll get around to posting some pictures as the build gets going a little later. To say the least, I'm not going to follow the previous owner's wiring method which has become a pile of rusty alligator clips. Here are a few of my ideas. 3 batteries, two are identical. 12v 36 lb (?) trolling motor setup 1 battery 1 - cranking and bilge battery 2 - 2 fishfinders, running lights, live well, horn battery 3 - trolling motor setup 2 battery 1 - cranking and everything else batteries 2 and 3 - trolling motor If I'm not making long runs will running all my accessories off the cranking battery kill it after a full day of fishing? How big of a circuit breaker do I need for the trolling motor? It's an evinrude and I can't find any amp or voltage numbers on it. Thanks

Fisher 1538 project boat
Good find. Any idea if the engine works? Either way, it looks like all the old stuff is already out of the boat and getting all the junk out can be the hardest part. I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures as it comes together.

Sammy's verses Zara Spooks
Only thing I dislike about it this lure, is its crap hooks. agreed.

How many lbs would you estimate for this bass?
This one was 5 lb 8 oz, yours looks to be right there too, if not bigger. Great fish!

I need top quality jigs PLEASE!!
I've been trying this type of rattle this season and I don't have any complaints. It's hard to see in this picture but they snap on with hook/ring and can swing freely. If you have a bunch of favorite jigs that comes with the mushroom head rattle these might be an option instead of having to buy all knew jigs. But where's the fun in that? http://fishingskirts.com/product_info.php?cPath=70&products_id=342

Pro-Tec Tips?
x2 Without investing in buying or building a fluid bed, this is your best option. Even with a fluid bed, I still hang mine hook down.

Tin Jigheads
If the density of lead is 1, tin is a .63. It's also pretty soft, much softer than brass or tungsten, or steel for that matter. Switching to tin would be a environmentally friendly idea, but won't increase sensitivity...on its own. Pure tin has a melting point of 450 degrees. Tin and bismuth are often mixed to make an alloy. Bismuth is almost as dense as lead, but it is to brittle to be suitable for a jig on its own. So, the bismuth adds density and the tin tempers the brittleness of the bismuth. I'm not sure of the best ratio, but they have more bismuth than tin. The melting point of alloys are often times less than their components and should be attainable without special equipment. I don't know how to make the alloy, where to get the metals, what tools are needed, etc. Just a basic understanding of the metals. Search around TU, I'm convinced they know everything. Contact your pouring pots manufacturer and ask them if it's ok. I've assumed that bobbymega used a tin jig head because of it's density.....and he cares about the environment. Couldn't have been very easy to make normal sized jig head + skid/rocker plate out lead and not turn a 1/4 jig into a 3/4 ounce jig. I know this isn't very well explained, but you get the idea. I'm not knocking the evolution jig or bobby and it's obviously an innovative, successful idea.

Best line for soft plastics
t-rig - braid or flouro depending on cover dropshot - flouro c-rig - braid with a mono leader, flouro sinks and doesn't help the action of the bait What power rod are you using? How heavy of cover are you fishing? 30-50lb braid would be my choice, adding various leaders as necessary

suspending deepdiving crankbait
Sorry I don't know of one that will work for sure. Try some Storm suspend dots and/or strips?
