  1. I have the Navionics East and West maps for Lake Sam Rayburn(paper) that are dated 2006. They have an awful lot of missing information in the back of all the pockets. The north end of Ayish and the Angelina are also blank. I was told by one of their reps that the lake was too low for them to map at the time they shot the maps. Do they have a later map that will show more info or are these the latest? thanks
  2. Matt, I totally agree. The year the fish disappeared no one could figure them out until someone stumbled on them. It was amazing. these trees were in deep water. I don't remember the reason it happened but there were a ton of fish caught 5-8 ft over 30-40 ft of water. As far as the fronts go they can wreck havoc on a lot of bed fishing. I just prefer to stay out and fish for the ones moving in and out. I think a lot of people are actually bed fishing without realizing it. They are fishing stained water and cannot see the beds even though they are there. I also believe that a ton of the reallly big fish come on the bed and are long gone a lot earlier than most people think.
  3. Rob, you did the right thing. Congratulats for not letting them ruin the evening.
  4. Catt, do you remember years ago when no one could locate the spawning fish and someone found them out in the middle of the lake spawing in the forks of the trees?
  5. Well I just got back from the lake and read all of the post. I can say I agree with just about everything said. I prefer to fish for the prespawn instead and believe that it starts much earlier than most people think. Mid 50 water temp has me fishing the first flats off the rivers on T Bend and Rayburn and any ditches that I can locate and the mouths of coves. Outer points and secondary points really come into play for me at this time of year. I am as bad as anyone about throwing a rattletrap. boy does it catch fish. You would think the fish would be sluggish but they will waylay a fast moving trap. The people that know me have always said if you don't know where the creeks are just look for Jack, he is never a cast from one. I don't necessary agree but I do know that most of my fish are on a break of some kind and when it comes to spring I believe that knowing where the ditches are that leave the creeks will get your arm or rod broken. A lot of people fish the grass and you can find them covering it up in the spring. I agree with this except I am not fishing the same grass. I tend to stay out sometimes several hundred yards and fish the isolated grass clumps and humps that most everyone else ignores. If you can locate these areas you tend to have them to yourself and this is where the first prespawners stage as long as there is a break, creek, or ditch that will guide them there. As far as time of the year I began looking at the mouths of coves after an extended warming spell whether that is in January or even December. I hardly ever site fish. Too much pressure. I tend to fish the prespawners coming and going(Post spawners). I have caught fish up to 9 lbs. as late as June 11 that were loaded with eggs. I believe that the moon has an awful lot to do with the major spawning and when it is full it draws the females to lock on the bed. All sight fisherman can have at it. I will get them either coming or going. Humps out in the lake are great spots to fish if you can locate them. When you hear that the fish have moved shallow, just remember that 10-15 ft. is shallow to a fish that has spent the winter in 30.
  6. KYBass1276, I started this thread and your post is not off target. In fact it is right on. Thank you for sharing your stories with us.
  7. Hey Rob, I dated a girl here in Texas in high shool that left for hollywood and made a ton of movies after she got out there. I think you can still buy each one for about 29.95...
  8. I'd call her if I had the number...
  9. Heck, go for it. You have already been to the doc. How much sicker do you think you can get. Everyone knows you always feel better while you are sitting in the waiting room. Are you a wuus? I saw your picture with Paris the other day. Bet she has got the cure...LOL
  10. I think most of the stuff in a pawn shop is stolen. It sucks, but I have actually found several of my items that had been stolen through the years, called the police, proved it with my id markings and walked out of the pawn shop no charge. If you have marked your stuff and can prove it the shop has to let you have it. Have done it twice and the shops gave me no problem. Naturally the officer was there and explained it to the shops owner. Keep records and how they are marked it is no problem. I mark my reels on the inside of a side plate with my initials and the last 4 digits of my SS#. It works P.S.: I find very few deals in the national chains like Cash America or Easy Pawn. They must have some kind of pricing structure where they can research an item and pretty much know how to price it. It is the smaller mom and pop stores that you will find the better deals. Do not be afraid to dicker with them on the price, they always come off, some more than others. Make friends with an owner. It is amaising what really goes through those stores. I buy some items that never hit the shelves. If it is a fishing item he will call me when an item is about to go out front. Another thing; if you are looking to pawn or purchase a gun in one of these stores. If you pawn a gun you have to got back through the background check when you pick it up just like you go through when you originally purchase one new. A lot of people will pawn one, get into trouble, and not be able to pass the additional background check when they go to get it out. Watch for these deals. The gun has allready been through the waiting period and can be sold immediatly.
  11. If you want or need the gear set send me your address and I will mail them to you.
  12. Friday am, walked into a pawn shop on South Main here in Houston. Purchased the following: Shimano Citica 200d on an Allstar AGL PRM 7'0" rod Priced 69.95 Paid 45.00 Shimano Core100mg Priced 99.95 Paid 70.00 Check your pawn shops if you want a deal. Some of the owners have no idea what a lot of the rods and reels are worth. I may go in 5-6 that have good stuff and the owner knows what their items are worth, but you will run across some that have no idea. This time of year many people are hocking their tackle. The 70.00 is by far the most I have ever paid for a rod or reel in a pawn shop or garage sale. The deals are out there if you will spend the time to find them. Good hunting!
  13. Havn't heard that yet. It's possible, they are closing their plant in Mississippi the first of the year. If it is true I might look at a Triton when I get ready for my next one. I am sick of the boat deals and how you have to be the owner of a late model to gather in any of the prize money. i know why it is that way, but you would think that they would like someone winning money out of an older boat to show the durability of their models. They are not on our side, just the people that will fork out the 40,000 or so for one of their newer models. I own an older Skeeter and a Triton that is 7 years old and both are still very good boats. Just hate the fact that they require it to be three years or less in order to qualify for the extra money.
  14. I fell out with Bill Dance years ago. First show he was ripping them off of a nice point that had some large pine trees on it. I swear I could count on those same trees being in the background for the next 20 shows. Just a different angle. He may have filmed the whole season in a week as the weather remained the same also. The only difference was the location of the moon in the sky. What a joke. My favorite was Benny Braur's show on several years ago critizing the amateurs that he had on. That was entertaining and informational.
  15. Last spring Fred Weary a Houston Texans lineman was stopped and after several to this day unknown reasons was tazered by HPD. He is now suing the city of Houston for millions. Who is at falt? The athlete, the officers, the judicial system, or society as a whole. Also, Chester Pitts, another Texans lineman was stopped yesterday afternoon during a traffic sting involving illegal turns that have been reported in an exclusive neighborhood. While waiting for the officers to write another motorist a ticket he took off and the police began the chase(lasted 1/2 mile) with their lights flashing. He was still in jail late last night. Should he be treated like a felon(innocent until proven guilty) or released to the team for justice, or should he be given a summons and asked to appear at a later date. Do we as society place a more emphasis on these two being athletes for our hometown team or do we expect a greater penalty be given because of their status in our city. Your thoughts please.
  16. Looks like the government and the great state of Mass. will soon be passing a law against spanking our children. What are we coming to? Your thoughts My thoughts: Spanking: YES Beating: NO

  18. If they are steelhead and walleye lures no wonder we cannot identify them. Get someone from Canada, the Northwest or maybe T-Rig from Sweden.
  19. Followup to my first post. The man that shot and killed the 2nd burgler had a heartattack while the police were questioning him. He is in stable condition at a local hospital.
  20. 27-10 mid 2nd quarter.
  21. I don't consider someone like that human...
  22. Well it has happened again. Last week a man in the Houston area called 911 and told them a man was burglerizing his neighbors home. Told the operator he had a gun and was going to shoot the burgler to protect his neighbors property. He argured with the911 operator and yep you could hear the shotgun go off. Scratch one burgler. He has not been indited. Today it happened again(Twice). Man had been robbed twice this week allready so he went home to find another burgler stealing his stuff. Scratch burgler #2. Man in Porter just north of Houston shot another one just about an hour ago. No word if he survived. Guess it is roundup time. I am locked and loaded.
  23. Way too late. I swapped the gears yesterday afternoon. I have other 5:1 reels for some deep cranking though. If you need the extra set of gears let me know. I will never use them. No Charge. FYI, there were no bushings on the spool shafts. It had the bearings.
