  1. You should have been here yesterday. When your fishing the bank 90% of the fish are behind you.
  2. Black buzzbait anytime of day. Bright days I seem to catch more with a 1/4 oz silver blade. Darker days and dingy water I like the 3/8 or 1/2 with a gold blade. It is my favorite top water lure. I have over a dozen of different sizes in my boat and all but two are black. I fish only the lunker Lure brand. I know a lot of other members like the cavitron as well as others, but I ain't changing something that ain't broke. Ask Long mike if my buzzbaits catch big fish.
  3. My personal favorite line of plastics.
  4. Check out the Pro Gator line of boats. My buddy has one and it has very high sides. I feel like I'm down in a well when i'm out running it. Catt has been in this boat and I'm sure he noticed it. They are built in Shreveport Louisiana. They are tough. First time out in this boat was a night tournament on Rayburn. My buddy cut down a 5" tree running up on plane and it only scuffed a spot just to the right of the TM. He bought it new in 2000 and it has never been in the shop.
  5. Ask her if I can go with her. LOL.
  6. Larry Nixon David Wharton Tommy Martin I have spent a day with David and Tommy. Sad David passed away a while back. I would still like another day with each. Never got the chance with Larry.
  7. I've caught my share of 6s and 7s, but no really large fish (8+) this year. The lakes i fish are well known for producing very large fish it has just not happened for me this year. Anyone else notice the lack of the really larger fish? If I get to Toledo Saturday night I'm going to try and fix this though.
  8. I fish a wacky rig with a 3/16oz. slip sinker a lot. Try it.
  9. The rabbit is finally out of the hat. Actually, it's been out a long time. Just been shoved under the carpet. Time to pay up and way past time to repair the damage done. The Louisiana coast has been raped for years, the oil companies, crooked politicians, and all their greedy friends know it. They won't pay; well they might, but we will bear the cost.
  10. In between boats, but I would disagree in that non boaters can provide good knowledge. I started off by saying, Man, you must not want to catch any fish... He did not, but I tell you he sure stuck to his plan... I managed to catch a couple early top water, the next 6 hours were painfully long though. You could cut the tension with a knife. Personally, I would have ignored you to after a remark like that. Discussion, not attacks, will go a long way. In fact, they should be covered at the angler meeting the both of you should have had the night before. If you are reasonably sure you are on fish, state the facts and openly discuss the reasons why you feel you can catch fish at another location. Otherwise, just make the best of it, or, better yet, spend the next week dropping fifty grand on your own ride.
  11. You'll learn to love those small barbs when it's time to rip one out of the back of a finger or hand. Fished a night tournament in june and let a 2 pounder run a hook into my left index finger. No one to help so i just grabbed the pliers, stuck my hand down in the ice chest to numb it up and ripped it back out. Probably could not have done that with the larger barbs. Fishing is a bloodsport. LOL.
  12. Chunk and crank with occasional stops until the first bite. That should tell you what they want at that time. Crash it into anything you can, pause it, as well as bouncing it off the bottom. It's an idiot bait at times. Just get it in the water and cover as much as you can.
  13. Definately not a five. Very nice fish.
  14. You can't go wrong with either. Both are loaded with features. It will be just a matter of personal preference. Visit one of the larger chains. You can play around with each while at their display stations. That should help you make a choice. Better yet, get on the water with someone and see which you like. Good luck
  15. There's no chance of me making it to second or first. I have to miss our next tournament and the two after that are on lakes where I've never caught many fish. Anyway, they're too far ahead to make up that much ground on them. We have three drops and their three lowest scores are higher than my three lowest (currently 40-45-0). I'll be glad with anything but 6th. Don't cut yourself short. A 20# sack or two can do wonders. Make friends with a couple of hot shot locals. They might just put you on a few. I had a 19lb lead going into the last tournament back in 1998 and one of our members sitting in 3rd or 4th busted a one day 34# sack that killed me for the club championship. He was the last one i would have even worried about. It can happen if you get on the right fish.
  16. Poor performance, hard starts, and possibly fouling one from extended idling time.
  17. Nice hat to. Have not seen one in a while.
  18. Thanks, everyone needs to watch and talk to your children. We missed all the signs. It was a drug overdose. Street and prescription both. We would have never thought it.
  19. You have an insane memory Nope, I keep log books.
  20. If you are not fishing a buzzbait during the middle of the day you are missing some of the biggest fish available. Over half of my largest buzzbait fish have been caught in the 10:00-3:00 time of day. My largest buzzbait fish (10.51) was caught during a bright sun September 19 at 3:50p.m. Also caught an 8.19 the same afternoon at 2:35p.m. Both on the same BLACK buzzbait with a nickle blade. Makes for a lot larger window, and yes, they were tournament fish.
  21. Well i was planning on being there Saturday night, but now it's up in the air and going to be a gametime decision. It's coming up on the anniversary of our daughter's untimely death and the wife is struggling mightily. Sunday will be the anniversary and she wants to visit the grave site. If i fish all night it will be a struggle to get her there so I am probably going to miss it.
  22. I run a Mercury 150 and for piece of mind I change them out every six months. Keep the old ones handy just in case i foul one, although I have yet to do that.
  23. I've got faith in you. Do your map study, Internet searches, put in the time on the water, and contact local intelligence to keep you over the hump. Don't be satisfied with number 3 or 4, keep your sites on the few above you and let them know you are coming. Good luck, and keep us updated as you make the move.
