  1. Fishing is a blood sport. It's not for the faint of heart. Be honest with her.
  2. Watch it here: www.kens5.com It was during a bass tournament last weekend and he was within 15 yards of the pirates. Thankfully he had a 250 on his ranger and got away. There are several news shots that are aired concerning the outlaws on the mexican side.
  3. I rate it right up there with the Banjo Minnow.
  4. Surprised that weight is leading. It will increase. I'm just sick that I'm not there. Going back to the hospital next thursday to try another procedure.
  5. I have a pair of frog toggs for warmer weather. I use the BPS 100 MPH suit for extremely cold weather and a lighter BPS Gortex suit if the temps are in the high 40s to low 50s. The 100 MPH suit is just too much at times.
  6. Depends on who is in the front and how they are fishing. They certainly can make it an advantage if they try.
  7. Great job, congratulations on sticking with it. Now watch out for those country girls.
  8. I don't do it, but if it is a confidence factor it does not hurt a thing.
  9. just strip down what you want to change and leave the rest on the spool for filler. Simple, i just use a small piece of tape to hold it. i never tie the new line to the old either. don't want a knot laying in the spool. I just use another piece of tape to hold the new line long enough to get a couple of turns on the spool and you are good to go.
  10. I would have bet money on that. They are very simple to disassemble. It's going the other way that gives so many people problems. They got to be right or you got big problems. If you can't find anyone close to you to fix it box it up and I will clean and put it back together for you. Just cover the freight. (Unless I have to purchase any missing parts) LOL. Jack
  11. Brush hog or the baby brushhog.
  12. I don't have any info on where to go to research it, but I find a few on several fishing sites from time to time. I firmly believe the old original warts are far and away better than the newer ones. They are getting pricy, but I have paid for them when I can find them. They only get fished when the money is on the line and they make a difference for me. You can find them on ebay at times, but be sure you know what you are looking at. There are a few that try to pawn off the later models for the older ones.
  13. Wacky. Just hook it in the middle and enjoy. If you need to weigh it down try a 1/32 bullet weight. The only way I fish it. I just don't care to stick the nails in either end. Plus, if i decide to t-rig it i don't have to re rig it. One pack won't be enough. It's one of my go to lures. Try a watermellon/Red
  14. Had the front treble pull out on the first two I bought when they came out. Never could get the third to run straight. Ya'll can have them. Won't be buying any more. Frogs suck to.
  15. I carry. One thing you absolutely don't want to happen is getting caught in Mexican waters or across the border with a gun or any ammunition. Even one bullet will cause you more grief than you can ever imagine. Immediate jail time. Many dollars to get out of this mess.
  16. Mistake to reverse the line that has been on your reel for two years. Moisture has been in the bottom of the spool and whether you think so or not it has begun to break down. Line is too cheap to take a chance on using it that long and breaking off a fish that you really wanted to put in the boat. I change out my braid every three months or so. Just don't want to take the chance. JMO.
  17. Three times in the last week fishermen have been robbed by thieves carring AK47 assualt rifiles. Twice on the Mexican side near Old Gurrerro and one time on the US side near marker 7. Go to: www.txdps.state.tx.us to read the story. If you are going down there be careful.
  18. Before you leave: Determine the prevailing pattern due to weather and time of year Map study, use more than one brand of map Check internet information Phone calls to people you know are familiar with the lake Calls to local tackle stores for any information they have Check with the corp of enginers or what ever company has control over the water levels Watch the weather channel for the week before to get an idea of the situations that may be in play At the lake: If it is a large lake, pick a section (Upper, Mid, Lower) and try to learn it well. If you have success and decide this is where you intend to stay get on the water early. Stay late and depending on the time of year , fish it well, moving and checking different depths. It may be as simple as picking out a large cove several miles in length and width or moving across the lake and starting over in another entirely different area. Developing a pattern is nothing more than removing unproductive water from your search area. When you get bit examine all the reasons why, what type of cover, depth, creek locations, etc., and then go try to find another spot that resembles it. See if you can get bit there. You may develope a half of dozen spots where it is possible to get bit, but you also may fish these other areas and not get a bite. You may want to change the timing of the time of day that you fished the other spots to see if they will produce better early, mid day, or later. If you bomb, start looking at the other parts of the lake and go fish them. If you started mid lake you may want to concentrate in the upper portion the next day or the lower section, depending on the external factors that are at work during your stay. It just means you have to start over and pick a section, fish it, and keep moving until you find the fish and figure out what it takes to make them bite. Sooner or later you will find a few and then you have to go about figuring out the best way to make them bite. If you are having fish follow the lure, swirl on it, or have them hooked on the rear treble, a change is in order. It may be a simple, minor color change, or you may need to go to a larger, smaller, or a completely different type of lure and/or presentation. It's hard work that requires time on the water. Good luck
  19. Nope, it's trash to begin with. Only way to new and improve it is to replace it.
  20. Retrieve angles. left it off the first list.
  21. I don't fill mine until i put the first fish in the boat Fill it out away from the launch Keep it cool with ice Use livewell additive Keep the areators running Keep the recirculating pumps running. I've lost one fish the last five years. That was last Saturday and I'm running a check to see why. The fish was not gut hooked and showed no signs of bleeding or stress. He just died during the day. If I figure out what caused it I will pm you and let you know.
  22. 1. Fish too fast 2. Casting accuracy 3. Lack of knowledge 4. Maintain tackle(Line) 5. Focus 6. Learn to set patterns 7. Realize they are on fish(The right fish) 8. Make a move when they need to(Instincts) 9. Lack of time on the water 10. Relying on another's info when their own would be better
