  1. Yep, with lots of stops to check out the humps and ridges out on the river. You game if the lake is not to rough?
  2. Wreck or any other man made structure would be a possibility on the pyramid.
  3. Jigs (3/4-1oz.) will get the job done on most occasions, however, some of the grass down here requires even heavier jigs to get through. I have at times resorted to pitching the jig straight up in the air to get it to break through. Give me a jig with a trailer or a 10" worm with a large weight and I am happy. I seldom peg the weight when pitching the grass. I like the idea of the weight free falling and then the worm following it a little later. Let the weight draw attention and when the bass comes to check it out here comes that big worm slowly following it down. With the weight on the floor you can draw the worm to it with slight pressure from the rod.
  4. Unfortunately I can attest to how well this works.
  5. I wish that were so. Ten hours of running 4,000 rpms and less for the breakin. Then after that only wot for short bursts . I hate breaking one in. Hate blowing one worse though. I guess you and I can load up without the rods, hit the river, and chase ducks/geese for ten hours. Then we will be ready.
  6. X2, without a qualified study by trained personnel it's just a shot in the dark. You have no idea what is growing in the lake, and certainly no idea as to the abundance of each size class.
  7. Dude, you have more patience than I will ever have. Nice work! Boat looks great.
  8. Nope...block is ready, all parts are in except the pistons. They should be here by Monday. I hate waiting.
  9. I am never without mine, wife either. I have never had to pull it and neither has the wife. If I ever do though I dang sure will pull the trigger. Even more positive the wife will do the same. Heck, shes better shot with hers than I am.
  10. Get on the phone and find a local shop that can check it out for you. Set up a time to have the boat there. If they cannot do it Saturday, find out when and then go look at the boat. It's obvious you need the help. Don't go down there Saturday if you have no one to help you check it out unless you are willing to buy it without knowing. It's possible you will get there, like the looks, think about the drive, and then make a poor(possibly) buying decision to go ahead and take the boat since you have driven all that way. It may be a good stout motor, but be prepared to put another four grand in the motor if it ends up being a basket case. Good luck!
  11. It has a setting that allows you to set the clarity to help you see it. Read the manuel or run through the screen settings and you will find it. Adjusting the angle of the screen will also help.
  12. Would make a great add for the use of safety chains.
  13. Texas, Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Gulf of Mexico
  14. Hell, you can part it out and make money. Why wait, if you have room to store it you should go pick it up. MAKE sure the titles are in hand. That would be the only reason to balk. Enjoy, and even if it turns into a pumpkin, just remember there are still lots of people hunting parts for those older motors, trailers, and assessories.
  15. 1/2 oz. Black Lunker Lure Buzzbait. Fish the points and don't put it down. Last September Long Mike and I fished a tournament and I had 20+ lbs. on day one. Included an 8.19 and a 10.51 in the day one bag. It's a little secret that few throw up there, but it will put some monsters in the boat. Throw it up against the bank and keep covering points. Inside and outside grassline, and don't be afraid to throw it on a bright, cloudless day. My two best fish were caught at 2:10 and 3:55pm. Good luck!
  16. I feel for you. The best thing is to take it in and have a competent mechanic put it on the scope and get it correctly diagnosed. You have already spent more than that would have cost you. It's probably a fuel delivery issue, which could include a tank of bad gas, but the only way to determine is to get it checked out. There are so many variables now with the ethanol issue it's impossible to shade tree a diagnosis. Your not the first to start just changing parts. A very expensive way to fix an issue these days. Give us a follow up when you find the problem. Good luck.
  17. Funny Catt! Parts bill up to 2,100.00 and nothing is even in yet.
  18. Ain't that the truth. I looked everywhere and only found a few that had been submerged in saltwater(Hurricane Ike). I want no part of any type of motor that went in the salt.
  19. Lots of little fairly expensive goodies are going in this motor that I am putting together. Lots of extra machine work also. Don't get me wrong, I want it to live, but I am going to see what we can squeeze out of it to. I never did find a 175 that I though was worth the money, so we will see what this one will do.
  20. She is definately a keeper. The day we pulled her new Infinity SUV into the driveway, she took one look at the boat and said "Don't you think it's time to get a new one?" How can you argue with that!
  21. In this case another 3,000.00. Scattered my Mercury 150 going to weighin Saturday. Making no noise, but was setting off the overheat buzzer after about 5 minutes of WOT. Pulled it down last night and sure enough head gasket was leaking into cooling port. Noticed that we broke a ring on number 5 cylinder. Again, motor was making no noise. Ordered all the parts this morning and the block is at the machine shop for a line bore and a .030 opening up of the cylinders. Plan on having it back together in less than three weeks if I can get all the parts. Asked the wife what she wanted to do about it and she just said fix it. What a lucky man I am. Thank you Wanda
  22. I guess I'm a sucker. I have two packs coming. If they do what they say, I'll certainly buy them.
  23. 4/0 or 5/0 Mustad EWG hook and try it without pegging the weight. When you punch the grass let the weight go, put a little tension on the line and it will rip the lure through. They cannot stand it. I seldom peg the weight when fishing the matted grass, in fact I never do.
