The three or four foot depths that you are fishing should be real easy to maintain with the shad rap. If however, you wanted to try some different jerkbaits, I say go for it. A mild change in action and/or color just might trigger the bigger fish. While you and the bait monkey are hanging out you should check out the Rapala DT3 cranks, the flat version. These suspend good around that depth maybe a little deeper. The DT series seems to produce bigger strikes for me. I don't know much about the stucture in the pond, but they might be worth a try.

Took a little time off from work to through some crankbaits with a friend this morning. I remembered to bring the camera this time so I got a few picks. I wish I had some of the monsters this pond is capable of producing to show off, but today wasn't the day. Bluebird skies, two days after a cold front and 40 degrees. That's pretty cold for these parts ( northerners don't laugh ). Anyhow, we managed quite a few keeper sized dinks by crashing into every piece of wood in the pond with crankbaits. The torpedos are awsome in this part of the country. Thats the first bait I gained any real confidence in, and I stil use it all the time.

I fell for this " good looking " bait too. I got one, and I have managed a couple of fish on it. However, I did not fish it the way it was intended. Instead, I let it sit on the bottom almost like dead sticking. The only difference is, I would give it a little shake now and then. Not very productive, but at least a couple fish managed to pick it up. I will not be buying another. :-/

No, its more of a straight wire with a hard plastic sleeve with ridges. Also, its a little longer.

Traps are great. I have a 6ft 8in allstar rod with a ABU Revo that no other lure, other than a lipless crank, will ever hang from. The Yo-Zuris and Diawas are really good, but I've grown attached to Strike King's Red Eye Shad. Great bait, great price!
