Who needs batteries when you have oars and arms?

I got a line on a 14ft jon... maybe. When is this fishapalooza?

That's exactly what an old Chinese guy did off the fishing pier at Burke Lake one morning last August. The result was a 7-8LB fatty. Biggest fricken LMB I had ever seen. Seeing that fish is a big part of why my interest in fishing took off late last year.

I have had a brand new utility trailer from Harbor Freight unassembled in a box in the garage for 2 years. Maybe I'll open the box soon, then I'll be able to jump on one of those boat only deals.

I'm seeing all these great smallie stories coming from Lake Erie... I'm just wondering if the other lakes are nearly as productive? Is Lake Erie so rich with smallies because it's shallower than the other Great Lakes?? I grew up on Lake Ontario and my family still owns a cottage there and I visit every Summer. I just wish that Ontario could be nearly as fortunate as Erie. As a kid I left the big lake to the salmon fishermen and always fished the tributaries for smallmouth. Are there smallies in numbers in Ontario or any of the other big lakes?

The size of these fish that I'm seeing is SICK! I grew up on Lake Ontario and still visit family every July. How come Ontario doesn't produce the same fish as Erie? Is it because it's deeper and cooler??

I grew up fishing Mepps spinners for smallmouth and Northern Pike in upstate NY. One of my most productive lures. Pike in particular love big inline spinners. Black fury: Aglia:

I love Mepps. I was killing the biggest Rock Bass I've ever seen all day long in upstate NY on a black fury last June. Any red eyes this far south?

A couple weeks ago people were talking about running buzzbaits at night. Any luck recently? I'm probably going to go to lake Royal tonight and give it another go. During the week, night fishing is pretty much all I can do.

Sounds like a fun day. Man, I can't wait to get a boat of some sort one of these days. Right now I'm debating kayak or Jon. If I do the kayak I know the kids are going to give me the sad puppy dog eyes and I'll feel all shades of selfish. I think I need to get a Jon big enough for the wife and 3 kids first.

Holy cow! You caught that in the lake proper? I grew up on Lake Ontario fishing mainly the tributaries for smallmouth. It never even crossed my mind to fish in the lake itself. Too cold, no cover, rough water etc... I figured lake fishing was primarily for the salmon fishermen.

May 04 was absolutely insane at my house! You couldn't even walk through the yard at dusk. Every step there would be a "crunch" and I would have a few of them climbing up my legs by the time I got back to the house. I can imagine the fish would love them. Even the squirrels were eating them.

If you don't mind me asking, where did your girlfriend buy it? I'd like to take a look at them some time. Did she comparison shop?

I'll have to take you up on that offer some time. I'd love to see how stable, quiet and fast that thing is. Tax returns should be coming back soon.

That kayak is super nice! I've been thinking about getting one... either that or an inflatable. How heavy is it? I wouldn't want to have to drag it across gravel and pavement to launch.

I like that snakehead pro fishing idea as long as the goal remains to catch to kill. I can see a few years down the road that club switching over to promoting protection of the species for sport purposes...

I took my 2 girls bluegill fishing at some local community ponds on Saturday. Caught a bunch of bluegills, crappie and some other panfish type that I didn't recognize. There was also a feisty turtle that kept trying to steal our worms. We also saw a monster of a snapping turtle. Anyway, this was the highlight of the day... I waived my daughters hook around it's head and it took the bait. No LM's this weekend, but it was fun.

I guess all the fishies hit the sack by 10pm cuz I'm seeing zippo. Where abouts is this camera mounted?

Weekends only for me. I'll probably be hitting Royal again on Sunday morning real early.
