Yes, that's the best set up for this rig IMO, might ck out the Moaner Hooks weighted Stroker hook, online... that hook is designed to glide thru grass easier and allows a bit more action on the bait.

WTG and congrats on the boat fished them for many years and some of my fondest fishing memories! I still have 1 small rig (Pelican), for fishing the certain waters at times...

Rage Rig wirh a Rage Craw

The longer casts are often harder to feel the bite and/or harder to get a good hookset on or near the end of the cast. As Sam mentioned, long cast are great to search with to locate a bite or pattern. When you're throwing to structure that you know is holding fish, only make a long enough cast that keeps the fish unaware of your presence and gives you the best advantage otherwise.

Removing or transplanting a big Sappers from a small body of water to a larger one is not necessarily a bad idea as they will migrate from one body of water to another to improve their feeding habitat. There CAN be too many turtles in certain bodies of water and especially the smaller ones like ponds. To keep the turtle numbers down, some pond owners and/or managers trap and move them to the nearest river system where they most probably migrated into the pond from originally...

Don't know the weight but they're both good ones WTG! The second appears thicker to me so could be a 5 easy enough...

I think the Summer Craw is terrific for many waters and not just ponds due to the Chartreuse laminate. Green Pumpkin or Watermelon Red are also popular and can be tipped w/chartreuse if needed. These color patterns are good in many water clarities and daytime situations. If the waters stained or have poor visibility, Black n Blue or other darker colors might be best... Falcon Lake Craw color is my Go-To in most all of the lakes that I fish but haven't fished ponds with it as of yet

Now You're Talkin and WTG If you choose to try any of the natural colors like Green Pumpkin or Watermelon Red, might tip'em with JJ's Chartreuse... RT's are IRRESISTABLE when fish see that bright little tail tip flappin all up in that FACE n STUFF Glad you're having Fun!

Unless it was an extreme COLD front rain, it can often improve fishing conditions! Fish will often move shallower than normal especially if the water clarity is much more stained or dirty from run off. Also the mouth of feeder creeks where clarity might improve slightly is a target area as well. I love fishing during and after rains here in Tx because it seems to make the fish more aggressive in many cases! Just last week, one of my biggest fish this yr came was within 14hrs after a big rain... and yes she had moved more shallow along with the majority of the bait fish

Boats and trailers that trap or carry plants and other matter from one body of water to another are the biggest culprits for transferring these when there are no overflow reservoirs feeding them. For Example: Back in the mid eighties, I was traveling back and forth fishing from Fork to Fla regularly. Once when I launched in Fork, I noticed hycinths from Fla had been trapped between the trailer and boat that floated free when my rig slid off the trailer... I thought nothin of it, but in time (a couple of years) I noticed the hycinths taking over the back of that same creek system and they were nowhere else on the lake. IN OTHER WORDS, I THINK I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT SCREW UP!!! And wished I'd been more observant previously... For that I apologize and I am very observant and much more responsible nowdays!!!! To answer your question, I don't think that baits that are dry for any extended length of time would cause a concern...

LOL, I didn't actually mention the weight but it was listed on the last scenes of the video I rarely weigh fish unless it's circumstances like supersized models or possible PB's etc.

Don't get too upset at missing a biggun! Just be happy you had the bite and experience... then go back after her now that you have her number It's not like she going to change her address and she's definitely going to continue to eat

Although she's "Summer Time Skinny", she's my biggest thus far this year by a few ounces and surprised me that she was where she was! I'll let you guess the weight and mention it later in the post Here's a hint: She's slightly heavier than the one caught on our "Flippin a Fatty" video from back in April. Caught her on a pitched Rage Hawg and in only 6ft water which surprised me as many of my bigger fish recently were deeper. It was 9:30am and I'd noticed that the bait moved more shallow than usual after a heavy rain the day before. I moved in to shallow brush that was scattered along a drainage in a large main lake cove and there she was all HAPPY n STUFF June was a great month for me last year and looks like it's gonna be pretty good this year again! I hope it's a good one for you too...
