If I ever fish less than 3/4oz, it's a 1/4 to 1/2oz and that's only for 4ft or less in water depth, with no wind. Most often 3/4 to 1oz and that's because I feel the larger size makes more noise on the bottom or is more noticable from a distance. Not to mention the fall rate and improved feel or sensitivity from heavier jigs. Wind is less of a factor and the jig finds the bottom much easier when fishing through sparse grass, brush or trees. Often faster fall rate will trigger more strikes when the jig drops over limbs rocks etc. Learing to feather your cast, flip or pitch with these heavier jigs is easier to learn than many would think and well worth the effort. www.ragetail.com

Make sure it's on the bottom, make sure when you move the jig it's on the bottom or stays within 1 or 2 " from the bottom, be the bait or emulate a Crayfish slowly crawling on the bottom. Not to say that swimming a jig isn't effective some time but many of those fish can be caught on other baits such as spinnerbaits, cranks or swimmers. As you slowly search out any given area with a bottom bumper, you'll feel the variety of structure types that are there. Then when you get bit, you'll realize where and what the fish are holding on. Does this sound like the same technique you use when slowly fishing a worm... It should because it's is the same basic presentation. Fish eat jigs with regularity because they eat Crayfish regularly. Think of what excites a Cat to pounce... Movement gets his attention and most of the time it's on the pause that the Cat pounces. Keep it simple and you'll be successful. And the Hoopla is all about the Hooping and Hollaring you'll be doing when you start Slamming steel to those hungry fish Hope that helps! www.ragetail.com

Black with red flake soft plastics are commonly known as black/neon... a good matching trailer or a possibly a color called California Craw which is black neon one side and watermelon red opposite. The black sillouettes well and the red flake represents red that is often found in Craws across the country as well as bait fish gills etc. There a variety of Crayfish that become basically red and black at certain times of their lives. What's your all around favorite Fluoro for your different styles of fishing and explain why please? Here's Mine: For my style of fishing, the Vicious Pro Elite 25# is GREAT... And I believe that I've tried EVERYTHING! I need fluoro that's Strong, low stretch, more abrasion resistant, last longer etc., and this stuff definitely fits the bill. NO, they're not my sponsor, I'm telling it STRAIGHT UP how it works for me I require a heavier fluoro than most for my fishing style (Soft Plastics and Jigs) and with all of the others I've tried... and there have been many... there has been too much stretch, too easy to break, not abbraision resistant enough etc. This stuff not only has all of the qualities that I look for but last longer than all of the others as well! Of course it coils with memory after it sets for a time but with one good stretch from a fish or a snag... It's like Brand New again and remains that way for an extended period. I'm not sure of it's use for cranks, spinnerbaits or on spinning gear etc., but I'm positive for my uses. Hope this didn't sound like a sales pitch... It is my opinion that when we release big fish immediately and even the young healthy fish in their home environments, their chances are substantially improved and not just for survival but also for better growth opportunuty. I think this is especially true for the ones that are weak from a fight in warm waters or possibly injured The fact that they're in home surroundings and can locate their safe zone and or food table quickly for recuperation is much better for them and less stressful, I'm sure! One day in the future, all will see THIS as the proper MANAGEMENT PRACTICE and all of our fisheries will be abounding with more Giant fish to catch... and release! Dwight, there's always company on these Texas lakes and I normally leave before others can tune in. Hanging around for a sick fish will draw FLIES now and then... if you know what I mean! SFBA, you're right about the weather threatening and would've left earlier but she needed the extra time! Bigger baits of the same style or type are easier to feel or see from a longer distance which is more noticable by more fish... If those fish are actively feeding, the larger bait often catches more fish as well. If the fish are not actively feeding, a little morsel may get a bite more often. Either way, many of the comments by others are correct IMO because Big Fish Eat Big meals and as often as they can... They're not much different than humans when it comes to eating habits, Bigger eat bigger and MORE! www.ragetail.com

Rod action and length, type of line and line strength, distance between you and the fish when you're bit, your body angle, any obstructions around that might impede a full tilt hook set, are all things to consider. Use a Quality Sharp Hook and a standard "off set wide gap" is better than an EWG in most situations... IMO. Feel the hit: Reel down quickly taking up line slack to a light feel of the fish and SET THE HOOK FULL TILT!!! Should you sometime set the hook again... YES, if there was a big bow in the line line on your hook set or if the line is mono/fluoro and the hit is on the end of a long cast, stroke'em again 3/4 to halfway to the boat. But make sure not to set again if and when the fish is near or on top because their mouth is normally Open. www.ragetail.com

Most all of my shirts are Magellan brand and are relatively inexpensive avg. $25 and hold up well to my use and conditions. I wore about 6 of them full time for a season and was more than impressed so now I have 20 or more. The Lake Fork model cottons are the ones I wear and are spf 20.
