I have thoughts on many things and tube designs are part of that equation. Like RW said, the basic tubes in their variety of sizes and colors are proven fish catchers and available from most soft plastic providers. Paul mentioned to me that he gave two quick twitches upon water entry and paused....kinda like a jerk bait, and she chowed it His idea is that when the bait splashes down and followed by the two quick twitches, it might mimick something being struck by another fish and frantically surfacing while avoiding being ate. His rigging is keen for sure with no hint of a hook and still completely weedless. With the water cooling down, the C rigged Eeliminator is hammer time for me. I like light weight set up's in shallower or low wind conditions and heavier rig for deeper or windy applications. I think Paul can catch biggun's on a boot lace www.ragetail.com

With the water cooling down, probably need to ck out the shallows similar to Spring patterns and using smalll cranks and/or small jigs would be my best guess for you. Stay close to cover or structure.... www.ragetail.com

The plastic formulation is slightly different on the Rooster as it is a bit bulkier. I flip with it alot in all types of brush and durability seems great to me. Also with the bigger wings, the body connections are thicker and wider. www.ragetail.com

Now we're talkin' Since you obviously have this situation going your way, enjoy the show but remember, it's not always how much racket we can make with the Shad that draws the strike....It is often the speed of the retrieve (faster or slower) along with the flicker rate of the baits movement that's most important. And the bass' preference can change from one day to the next depending on weather, temps. etc. When she hits - you'll need to drop your rod tip while continuing to reel up the slack and when you feel the fish load up, "Set The Hook". Most folks set to early before the fish has totally engulfed the bait. Here is the Big O simplified version of understanding how to fish soft plastics... If you have successfully bottom fished for catfish whether cast and sit or drifting in a boat, you can fish soft plastics for bass successfully the difference being, instead of the bait sitting in one spot for an extended period of time waiting on the bite, or the boat drift moving the bait along the bottom to offer it in front of a catfish, you are moving a soft plastic offering along the bottom slowly to offer it to a bass and the bites are often very similar in feel. Most who first start learning to fish softies, will normally fish too fast and not allow the bait to enter the bass' lair and the majority of bites are when the bait is on the bottom or falling to the bottom. Many of the fish that are catchable, are hiding in ambush mode in some type of cover or structure that is bottom related. The one main constant that has been mentioned previously is "The Bottom". As long as you are maintaining contact or a close proximity to any bottom structure, and moving the bait slow enough so that any bass that is close can feel the subtle vibrations and find your small edible creature, you can be a successful soft plastic fisherman. Regardless of your skills with the rod and bait, the most important part of this equation is "are bass in the area you are fishing". Now this is where the real challenge begins Be the bait....slowly searching for the elusive MONSTER BASS www.ragetail.com

The Shad and the Toad are both primarily designed for topwater fishing but can be fished as wake baits or dropped in the holes in the grass etc. They are medium to quick retrieve soft plastic buzzers and the illustration shows the Toad hooking info. www.ragetail.com

In this case, a 1/8 to 3/16 oz Swimbait (keel weighted) hook will make it run right. You can also place them in hot water for a couple of minutes and the will reform to original shape. Also please make sure not to over hook (hook too large) the bait as it will stretch the baits length causing erratic results. The swimbait hook will solve the problem and also give you more distance on the cast, plus allow subsurface and wakebait presentation as well. Even with the weighted swimbait hook, the Rage Shad will surface quickly by lifting your rod tip slightly. I like the 4/0 superline EWG hook when weightless and/or a 5/0 screwlock hook which is actually shorter from the hook eye to the point than a standard 5/0 EWG, and doesn't stretch the bait at all. The screw lock hooks will normally increase the durability of the bait as well because the nose of the bait won't wear out as easily. These hooks are more expensive but I like them alot for both weightless or keel weighted (Swimbait) applications. Hope this info helps you and let me know Big O www.ragetail.com

How are they rigged? Tx,c rig, weightless? Would they be better for flippin and pitchin? I think you will find it a very versitile bait and as mentioned previously, T-rig, C-rig or swimbait style weightless or with weighted hook over grass will git'r'dun. I have one rigged for flipping everytime I fish and it has terrific ability to fish similar to a swim jig with steady lift-drop-retrieve motion. www.ragetail.com
