  1. Hahaha these are all great! I guess I'll throw one in as well: Back when I was in middle school, my dad would take me to fish for trout in a local lake every now and then. On one of these trips, we were fishing next to this one guy and not much was happening, just soaking up some sun. Then the guy sees his bobber go down, he gets his rod and proceeds to reel it in. Sure enough, while fighting the little stocked trout, it was splashing a little at the surface and down comes an osprey to take his would-be catch! Now his drag is screaming louder than kids on a roller coaster and he's trying to pull the bird back but to no avail because within seconds he ran out of line and you hear a *kink*. Guy looks at his reel and realizes that not only did the osprey take his catch, it took the rest of his day of fishing. He was a good sport about it, but his body language and facial expression were priceless.
  2. No just a false alarm There's something about frogging that makes it my favorite way to fish, I absolutely love it. The strikes can be explosive, the hook sets are over the top, and the fish tend to be a bit more weighty. Nothing like a hot summer day and frogging thick mats or any overhead cover for bass.
  3. Yeah I think it's meant to be a more affordable fluorocarbon line.
  4. Nice! Good luck!
  5. Anytime I can do some frogging I take that opportunity. But the suggestions presented here already are all great, you have a lot to work with and one of these should give you success on the water.
  6. I have a Revo S on one of my setups and I'd have to say it is definitely a solid reel and it has served me well. Whether or not it's worth a shot would have to be determined by if it meets your wants/needs in a reel.
  7. Water temperature will definitely have an impact on the spawn, however, knowing how much the air temperature affects water temperature can be a bit trickier. With the way water holds and gives off heat, it takes a while for it to warm up and cool down. Although it is important to look at the highs from a weather forecast, I also believe it is a good idea to take a quick look at the lows as well. The days might be moderately warm but if nights are really cold, then I don't think that will help the water temperature to increase much. Regarding moon phase, I believe the first full moon after consistently warm weather triggers bass to move up, or at least that's what I've heard, not sure if new moon applies. That being said, I've read that the biggest females often move in before the masses do, so even if you're not sure whether or not the water is warm enough, if you have time it might be worthwhile to put on the polarized glasses and get on the water. So if the weather holds like the forecast, I'd say the spawn is right around the corner. If you can, check the temperatures in the shallow protected areas and find the warmest ones and try it out to see if you can bring in a big one!
  8. I've tried them a couple of times, but without success. I'll probably give them another shot (they've got to be used eventually) when I get the chance to fish again. To me they just seem like Gulp! brand plastics, they even smell similar to me, but see if you can find a pack at a local store (a Sports Authority near me had a sale, that's why I tried them) and pick up your favorite style and color and see how it performs. To me that's the best way to see if a bait is worth it or not.

Bags for sure. If you leave them in the sun in a Plano box (I'm thinking of the clear ones, but the tackle boxes probably won't be much different) it'll heat up the inside and possibly make your plastics stick to the inside of the box... Yep I've had it happen
  10. Yeah I've also read that young fish can see UV light for the reason of feeding on the plankton So in that study, UV light did not penetrate as far as visible light could? This would back up what was in the link to the PDF by the MB Aquarium. Thanks for the input!
  11. That's what I have been wary of. I've also been looking for a third party study on a bass' ability to see UV light, rather than the ones that come from a manufacturer's website. I hope that at least there are some studies being done that will be published in the near future to clarify. Can Bassresource hire a fish biologist for the forum to answer questions like these? ;D
  12. That's one my questions that I was hoping would be answered by starting this thread. Hopefully someone with knowledge of bass, and more specifically their vision, can provide some insight.
  13. You can still get sunburnt because light from the sun still reaches the Earth's surface (both visible and UV), you can't see UV though because the wavelengths are not within the "visible light" spectrum.
  14. Don't worry I know what you mean, just messin' with ya that's all ;D
  15. Normal, average kids can drive before high school?
  16. lol Dogs are so awesome, I want a lab when I get older! Nice video!

He looks ready to set the hook on a monster! Nice pic!
  18. It could have been used for educational purposes in kindergarten but she left out Monday through Wednesday. The poor, poor children... :'(
  19. hahaha nice video! Kelly Jordon was really able to get a nice close up shot of Zona's eyes to show the intensity and passion behind what he was saying!
  20. hahahahahahahahaha That'd be so epic!
  21. And just to clarify, her parents paid for the recording and music video, that would be really impressive if she could do that on her own though. So if anyone has the money they should give it a shot and we'll have a little poll
  22. Thank you! Would this apply to freshwater as well? Or does saltwater have different properties than freshwater that could alter the information if it had to be applied to freshwater?
  23. I did some searching around and came across someone saying that the red end of the spectrum and infrared penetrates the deepest. Their evidence was that algae that reside in deeper water have chlorophyll with absorbance peaks with wavelengths in the infrared range. They also said that violet and blue are reflected at the surface more than other colors. Boy, this stuff is confusing
