  1. Today's braids are light years ahead of the old dacron braids. I don't use it on a spinning reel simply because I don't use them very often. I have several baitcasters spooled with it. I use PowerPro braid, but I have a friend who swears by Fireline on a spinning reel.
  2. Here you go: I hold it on by using a hole punch on a plastic coffee can lid and using one of the disks. The skirt is removed to see it easier.
  3. Interesting concept. Makes sense once you think about it.
  4. bass master-would you be willing to share the info you got from Berkley? I'd be interesting in hearing it, because Iron Silk is the worst line I ever tried.
  5. They do not sink real fast, which as nwgabassmaster said, is what makes them so deadly. If you want them to get deeper you can add a bullet weight or simply wait while it sinks. There really isn't a wrong way to fish them.
  6. I really don't have a set amount of time. Like several others, first light to 1 or 2, 5:30 to dark-it just depends.
  7. Nope, you are not alone. I usually pick up another rod with different bait rather than change colors of the same bait. Might not be a bad idea to try it once and a while, though.
  8. Same here with a couple of exceptions-a floating worm and a roller rig, and then it is there to help with line twist. Before you ask ;D, roller rig: http://www.***/articles/senko-fishing.shtml Scroll down to Chapter 6
  9. Did you check your hooks? So often the sharpness of the hooks gets overlooked-we just assume they are sharp, and that isn't always the case-learned that lesson the hard way. If it in not sharp enough to dig into your fingernail with just a little pressure it needs to be sharpened.
  10. reelon, Raul is, as the song says, "South of the border, down Mexico way"! I'm not so concerned about keeping cool as I am out of the sun. I do drink a LOT of water. Years ago I started carrying a bandana. I open it up, lay it over my head where it covers my ears and neck-kind of like the hats you see the French Foreign Legion wear, and put my hat on to hold it in place. Haven't had a sunburn on my ears or neck in years. It may look goofy, but who cares? I'm too busy fishin' to be concerned ;D
  11. I love it when that happens! Looks like you had a great day!
  12. Good tip, Chris. To add a little, if you are in flooded timber, look at which way the trees are leaning. If you have two leaning towards each other there is a good chance there is a creek channel between them, and fish the side any tree is leaning towards-there might be some busted branches at the base that have broken off and settled on the bottom.
  13. Sounds like you are on the right track. In water that clear I'd go with natural colors like watermelon seed, watermelon red flake, or green pumpkin, and I would use small baits. What kind of line are you using? I would use either flourocarbon or green mono, and this time of year I'd fish around the cover-in the pads, weeds, etc. I'd also go with what the other guys said-weightless. The night fishing isn't a bad idea either. Good luck! BTW, sounds like a beautiful place to fish!
  14. I just ordered one, Sam-fighting the wind with a trolling motor is south Texas is a losing proposition, so I thought I'd try something different. I'll let you know how it goes.
  15. I always use a scent on a soft plastic. I don't know if it attracts them or masks another scent, but they tend to hold on longer-especially on a jig-n-pig.
  16. BPS Extreme. I absolutely love them.
  17. You got that right! I love fishing in the rain for that very reason. As long as there is no lightning.
  18. I hang on to it but don't white knuckle it. With spinning gear I have the mount of the reel (not quite sure what to call it) in between my middle and ring finger and reel with my left hand. Baitcasters I put in the palm of my left hand and reel with my right.
  19. Welcome to the forum! Jump right in and make yourself at home.
  20. That is how I learned about dead sticking-picking out a backlash ;D
  21. Probably about like KU-between 6 and 7, although that might be a bit of a stretch ;D
  22. You and me both, muddy ;D. Glad you survived.
  23. Welcome to the forum! Check out that site playmaker posted-it is a great source for someone getting started.
  24. Definitely Choke Canyon-that is my favorite lake. Haven't fished Mathis. If I have the time I'll go to Choke, but if not I head up to Canyon Lake just north of San Antonio. I've talked to a few guys who have recently fished Choke and they were catching them in 15 feet or so along the edge of the weedlines.
