  1. on the sites i visit, there seems to be an equal amount of issues from every rod/reel/tackle manufacturer out there. again...if it's made by humans, there will be duds.
  2. if it's made with human hands, you can expect a dud now and then...be it st. croix, dobyns, abu, kistler and all the other usual suspects. one long look at any good tackle store will tell you that.
  3. not a cheesehead but, it was a good game. matthews can walk the walk.
  4. am with roadwarrior on this one. the mbr843 imx or the mbr844 imx are hard to beat in the loomis line.
  5. now that's a touchdown run!

you'll have to get farther south than mississippi. predicting 4" to 8" of snow here tomorrow.
  7. i agree...tough young defense. and jefferson has come a long way this year...as far as nerves, anyway.
  8. whatever al davis has "brewing" between his ears liquified years ago. cable will find a better job elsewhere.

    bump again. with a prayer.
  10. if you're wanting more power and length, i would look hard at the cbr 906. the deep-flex series are softer (more parabolic) thruout the blank..a good action if you're more used to the glass or composite cranking blanks...the regular cbr's are parabolic, as well, but get into power quicker down the blank. each may have its place but, personally, prefer the cbr 845 or 906 for all-around...will easily handle 95% of the cranks you'll ever throw.
  11. am with micro on this one...for much the same reasons. i do have one braid rig for the deep winter ledges at pickwick or some of the grasslines on the tenn-tom...other than that, i have no use for it...most of my regular lakes are loaded with cover...pitching or casting into this cover with braid gives me more line snags and breakoffs than i experience with yo-zuri or 100% fluoro. and, fwiw, have tried the new fireline, as well. i can see a purpose for braid and a lot of that purpose depends on where you fish, how you fish and what you fish with....for most of my purpose, i can live without it.
  12. 6:1 for tip-down...7:1 for tip-up. i tend to lose fish on the slower reels.
  13. smoothness here. god gave us the opposible thumb for reasons other than casting.
  14. when he finally made it thru the back door of his house last night, i'll bet a dollar to a donut that herbstreit kicked his dog off the top step.
  15. cr722 glx. that said, almost any good m/f will do the trick.
  16. the steez 103/bcr 803 combo excels at pitching...the most accurate and productive at that app. i've ever used...it has accounted for several double-digits and an unworthy amount of 9's and 8's...the reels are stock and i've yet to feel underpowered as far as drag...of course, rod and thumb have something to do with this, as well. have several core 50's and i think where the steez earns its money over the 50 comes when retrieving the heavier cranks and spinners...as good as the 50 is, i start to feel gearing when burning 1/2 oz. blades or running the deeper cranks...granted, neither the core or the steez are the best suited for these apps....but it is a testament to the steez that it can do these apps. without any gear mesh or binding feel...something i've only been able to do with the calais series of reels. as others have suggested, i would offer to keep plugging at it and keep fine-tuning that dial with each bait...it will be worth it. and, fwiw, as much fun as i have with the core 50, i would still pick the steez over it as an everyday all-around reel.
  17. no pats fan here, either. that said, he has walked the walk this year.
  18. good deal...and jimmy's good to deal with.
  19. two sides to every story...and media rarely reports either of them. have a media background, as well, and it ain't just fox, folks...it's cnn, msnbc, the abnbcbs complex, even down to the weather channel...they all follow the same parse-the-words, out-of context template designed more for their masters to gain hearts and minds over issues, rather than simple truths to be told. calling one side worse than any other side here is a bit...facetious.
  20. the cbr845 will easily handle 95% of all the trebles you'll ever throw...one of the better all-around crankers out there, imo. personally, never cared for the 843...it just never seemed to have the power i felt i needed for my type of fishing...that said, if you're happy with it for topwater, then gaining the cbr845 would seem like solution solved in your case...along with the 847, you'll be able to cover a great amount of bases with just 3 sticks. as far as the loomis topwater series, have limited use with them and tend to shy away from them and the spinnerbait series...they are good rods but, personally, have yet to find a better pop-r/pointer rod than the mbr782 or a better spinnerbait/buzzbait rod than the mbr783. ymmv.
  21. either. conventional wisdom may say the faster of the two, but there isn't a great deal of difference between the ipt of these two reels...have used both and they both handle this app. extremely well. as to the value of these two reels or any other, one man's trash is always another's treasure.
  22. all good things, rooster...sooner or later, all good things......
  23. think a lotta folks don't realize how small a margin most companies, even large corporations, work on for limited periods of time...even tho those margins are jealously guarded and fiercely managed, the slightest downturn can be a hardfall. the nailgun you buy at lowe's may have a 5%margin...the nails themselves are at 200%...after awhile, you begin to realize it takes a whole lotta folks selling a whole lotta nails to keep those big boxes open. in the case of the memphis bps, methinks it has more to do with the sad, shortsighted politicians of memphis, tennessee than the financial state of bps overall.
  24. most of my fish are caught on three rigs. mhm...cbr785/steez 100 mhf.....mbr783 glx/steez 103 mhxf...bcr803 glx/steez 103
