  1. not everybody's cup of tea but, the terminator pro model has a slotted head instead of the more typical looped guide...comes thru grass very well. as far as trailers, my best producers have always been the super chunk or super chunk, jrs. oh yeah...black/blue.
  2. the backplay is normal for a shimano...generally, there is less of it the tighter the drag. as to the spool not turning, sometimes reels are shipped with everything locked down tighter than dick's hatband...loosen the cast control knob to where the spool barely rocks in a sideways motion...this should allow the spool to spin more freely, assuming the reel is adequately lubed.
  3. compared to the carter years, this is a walk in the park. this, too, shall pass.
  4. i got both. at the same time. in my fishing, the 5.1 is just as versatile as the 7.1.
  5. toyota sold just under 10 million cars last year and made a $17 billion profit. g.m. sold just under 10 million cars last year and lost $28 billion. you do the math.
  6. mag bass (mbr) rods are fast action...more all-around. jig and worm (bcr) are extra fast...incredible for plastics. for 1/2 oz. jigs in 20', would go with the bcr 4...the bcr 3 can do it, i just think the 4 handles 1/2 oz. better...3/8 oz. and i would go with the 3.
  7. gotta go with tebow of nazareth. all three are good...but tebow's just a different breed.
  8. any of the pointers in american shad.
  9. as far as the cbr's, you may wanna look hard at the 845...imo, far more versatile than the 843.
  10. black/blue. will upsize or downsize, depending.
  11. the wife don't ask me what i spend on gear. i don't ask her what she spends on gardening. has worked for 25 years.
  12. they're both excellent reels but, like said, the price of the 50mg nowadays makes it hard to pass up. i didn't notice much difference in performance, either.
  13. gimme the biggest toad in the lake.
  14. don't forget special teams. florida's got speed everywhere.

your right about the big bucks...they were only paying croom right at $1,000,000 a year...(how often do you get to say "only" and "$1,000,000" in the same sentence). normally, bowden would be my pick...that said, ole miss just ante'd up $2,000,000 for a nutt. and, sumphin's gotta give.
  16. at that price, the dt10's and 16's are hard to beat...as well as the fat free's. if you shop (not talking ebay here), there is always a mom and pop store on the way to the lake that's got a poe's somewhere on the rack.
  17. fathom replied to Sam's topic in Everything Else
actually, bowden was rumored til tubb became available.
  18. fathom replied to Sam's topic in Everything Else
resigned with an awful lot of handprints on his back. rumor here is that tubby's going to mississippi state. :-?
  19. still sucks here...it took 54 hrs. for my new reel to get from chino, ca. to texas. and i'm still 2 states away. >
  20. you may be right about that, catt. that boy just don't drink the same kinda water the rest of us mortals do.
  21. will take both hooks off wake baits like subwarts, bulgin' b's, cb-001 and replace them with a single #2 on the belly. shadraps will get one size bigger hook on the back...makes them much more castable, as well...the smaller front hook stays unless they start getting tangled...then it comes off. deep tiny n's always get a single #4 on the back. am also not opposed to a single 3/0 or 4/0 hook on the back in open water. do these mods affect the action?...am sure some of them do in some small way but, they don't seem to affect my catch rates or landing rates.
  22. it can be for plastics and blades. to incorporate the treble baits along with plastics and blades, you may wanna look at the 843. both deserve a place in any arsenal but, the 843 is a slightly better all-rounder, imo.
  23. this is a hard one to answer. the 50mg, after the calais 100a, is arguably the best reel shimano has introduced in years. that said, if you already have some 50mg's, i would wait...the next generation is the one reel shimano cannot afford to get wrong...the intro of the new curado e series makes me think shimano is on the right track...then again, if they do get it right, why the heck would we need a core? if shimano really had their thinking caps on, they would design the new 50mg as a smaller part of the new chronarch series...then again, why would we need a core? as far as the new, look for something without heg...as far as the old, am really gonna miss that reel.
  24. just so everyone's cards are on the table, i am sponsored by no one...i do have a caterpillar hat but, that's another story. i also sold an le because it didn't match the bcr glx. bad close but, still not a match.
  25. by very sensitive parts.
