we should all get together and...
have a friendly tournament! my buddies and i do this a couple times a year, just because we like fishing competitively. I'm sure this has been brought up before and i'm not saying to travel to another state, just get some people in your local area and have a tourny.. And i know about those of you that don't have a boat -> we should have non-boaters, a great way to meet new friends and learn from eachother. Of course all people would all have to agree on a date and wether or not to fish for money. I'm here in central Florida and know there's plenty of guys from the forum around this area.. What do ya say? All other areas should do this too and we can post it..or not

Slayed them this evening...
QUOTE: "Gators will follow your lure or the sound of your splash out of curiosity thinking it may be a food source. We were using flukes and other top water baits that create noise and never did we attempt to cast near a gator that was visible. The gator simply followed our baits as we walked the bank. The gators were small, 4' and less which probably makes them even more curious. I've waded the St. Johns river for years with stringers of fish tied to my belt loop and have had to dump the stringer on more than one occasion because gators would follow me and get too close, looking for an easy meal ( the fish on the stringer) and it wasn't because they have been hand fed." ahh, but Rolo said "following an angler" not the noisy baits or smelly fish, your describing. not tryin to be a @$$ but he's 100% right. put your rod down and don't carry fish and they'll never follow unless it was used to humans feeding it

How much of the max H.P. do you need?
i've been told(by my mechanic->>ex-boat racer :) you can safely get away with 20-30+ hp. my boat is rated for 115 but i went ahead and put a 140 just for kicks. it does void the warranty-but my boat is so old it doesn't matter.

Fishing 101: What to do when the fish jumps
definitely keep a tight line, but i've learned that if you up your rod tip down when a fish jumps it actually slacks your line more than keeping your rod tip up. Although when deep cranking i keep the tip down to 'prevent' the fish from jumping, but if it does jump i put more tension on him by keeping the tip up.. also like some said before about treble baits, i sometimes roll the tip to get a extra hook in the fish if possible.

The most important feature when locating bass?
no to sound cliche, but all of them. i really look for the right mix of things, but ultimately structure(whether it be vegitation, a dock, or christmas trees) is the most important thing i look for. I also think structure and cover are kinda the same thing.
