  1. You know you've got some nice reels when your "less nice reel is a Chronarch".
  2. I did some research and found several people use this rod as their frog rod. My question is, would the tip load up enough to cast a buzz frog with a 5/0 hook? It looks like the frog itself only weighs 1/8oz (???) It would be the Mossyback version if that matters. Also looking at the 844 IMX and Dobyns 735. Thanks for the help.
  3. 9+ according to Fox News Chicago in the city. Too bad school is never cancelled. >
  4. Do you have to by a core in order to own these new rods? ;D
  5. Like your profile pic; only the reverse. ;D
  6. Looks like it's priced well above the Cumara.
  7. I got into baitcaisters about 2 years ago. I always casted with my right and reeled with my left hand. When I switched to baitcasters I had no idea which to get, but I ended up getting a RH one. I used it a couple times out and although I was getting the hang of casting with my right hand and switching the reel to my left and cranking with my right, it didn't feel right. I then tried a LH reel and it felt more natural to me. I cast with my right hand and reel with my left. I hav eused LH reels since. If you are set on RH reels then I guess you have your fair share to choose from. I like the lighter reels myself and will probably wait until a LH crankin reel comes out around 7 ounces. I would hope it'd be the Curado, but I know you weren't a big fan of it. I know you will be happy with either so I think you may need to put each on a CBR845 and try it in the store. It seems you are a "feel" guy when it comes to reels so I think this is your best bet. Whatever feels to best....there ya go.
  8. Sorry if this has been answered in any of your threads, but is this your first baitcaster?
  9. The spool would be loose because the spool tension knob was not tightened. The handle would be a different story. Shimano is "known" to have a little backplay in the handle, but I can hardly notice in the Curado or Chronarch.
  10. Did you try a Curado already on display or take one out of the box? I find the reels on display never feel right and always ask to take one out of the box and put on a rod off the shelf. I have never thought the Curado E felt loose, but that is my opinion. The Chronarch D feels great in my hands so I guess we may be polar opposites. Never used either in your title so no help there. If I ever get a CB reel I would have to get the zillion because Shimano no longer carries a lefty in the new lineup. I'm holding out in the hope that they release one in the near future. :-/
  11. If you are talking about a crankbait reel, I would assume a 5:1 ratio like the E5 or D5. These take up less line, inches per turn. If you want a reel for throwing plastics then I would look at a 7.1:1 reel like the E7 or D5. Both can throw weightless senkos. Senkos actually weigh quite a bit. Remember that there are other brands out there as well. I like Shimano, and so do a lot of members on this board, but there are other companies out there. Use the search button on the upper left to help answer some questions. For example: "weightless reel", "crankbait reel", Curado E, Chronarch D, etc. I hope this helps.
  12. The D feels smoother, but it depends on if you think it is worth the higher pricetag. It also hold less line and because of the lighter combined spool/line weight; it can cast lighter baits better. I can't think of anything the D can do that the Curado E can't.
  13. I am assuming you are talking about the CBR845. I throw almost any size crankbait, some buzzbaits, and topwater with this rod. The only negative is the shorter handle, but it doesn't bother me. A lot of good reviews on the net about this rod. I have mine paired with a Citica E. If you like the slower gear ratio then you could look at the Curado E5.
  14. Core 50Mg and a Loomis GLX. If you start with the Zebco 33, he will want to upgrade in the future.
  15. What about the BSR852? It's at least 7ft and can handle all the things you listed. It also comes in a GLX. I have it, but have not used it yet. Seems to have the tip action that I prefer, but I have no idea what the top end weight range is on it. I can imagine it would work fine up to 3/16oz and trick worm shakey setup. If you want something for slightly heavier stuff then I think that 843 sounds good. Sorry I am not of much help. I could give a better review come April. >
  16. Keep it up. The rough areas on the inside of your lip, smokers keratosis, is actually a precancerous lesion. The longer you chew, the more likely it is to develop into oral cancer. Very nasty stuff there. The money spending, well... I do not think that is precancerous so you should be ok.
  17. Hated the SX, loved the S, and never used any of the others. The new braking seems to be a good move on their part. The SX was birdnest city for me when throwing anything less than 1/2oz. Maybe I just suck at casting, but I prefer the centrifugal system in the S a lot more.
  18. Never used an Ardent. With that said I would get another E7 or Zillion. If you really want me to choose just one then I'd go with the E7.
  19. As others have said, get the 845. The 843 does have a place, but I don't throw anything over 3/8oz with it.
  20. Good morning bassresource nation!
  21. Check out this link. http://www.***.com/rodselection.html Extra Fast rods are primarily used for applications that involve bottom contact baits. Some have even said that it makes a rod more sensitive; of course this is subjective. A fast action rod will make a good all-around rod while a moderate action is preferred by some for crankbaits. I hope this helps.
  22. That is a good price on the MBR, but you can find a like new Avid/Powell/Crucial for that price in a 7ft. MH/F and then get the M/XF Cumara for the in between rod you mentioned. If you decide you are 100% going to pick up the Loomis then I would still go with the M/XF cumara in the length you want. Just my .02 cents
  23. Merry Christmas dudes.
  24. Gotcha, I think you will be fine then. I understand what you mean about those shallow shad raps. Those things are light. I think they would be fine on any of those spinning rods then.
  25. I think it will work fine for everything except for the last two techniques you described...jerkbaits and crankbaits. The tip is way too fast for either in my opinion. How about picking up the AVS68MXF and then an Avid 6'6 Medium casting rod for treble hook lures?
