  1. I've either been fishing or with someone fishing as far back as I remember. My first memorable bass, the one that got me hooked on targeting bass, was probably when I was around 10. I caught what my grandfather declared was a huge bass. It was probably around 6 lbs. I remember it being over 20" long. We didn't weigh fish back then. I ate that fish, and it tasted terrible.
  2. Yes. Pike will eat anything. Pike are VERY territorial. There's underwater footage of them attacking divers. Same with musky. You're welcome, and welcome aboard!
  3. My take on whether ANYTHING we do in the water near a bass matters: sometimes, but maybe not. Some days, I've watched bass swim away when light fluoro hits the surface near them. Other times, they're attacked my leader knot - no joke. I think this a behavioral variable that must be observed when it happens in order to say yes or no. That I get bit without leaders using bright pink braid isn't proof that it doesn't matter, sometimes.
  4. It's been pinned for a while now.
  5. Back when I wanted spare spools for Daiwa reels, I called Daiwa direct and ordered them. They were less than $25, but that was a decade ago.
  6. Look familiar?
  7. Where I fish, bass and pike's ranges intersect in spring and fall. Since pike are the dominant predator, many of the top, cooler spots are seized as their territory, and bass are driven off. I've fished prime pike spots, and never caught a bass. I've fished other spots, not conducive to pike where it's nothing but largemouth. Conversely, while pike will drive off smallies, it's not unusual to catch both when fishing for either.
  8. No, probably wouldn't bother. Been in enough of them to know they do not suit me at all. I dodn't answer you, yes, my AT is a Ergo bent shaft. It's very comfortable, and doesn't roll away when you set it down.
  9. Rarely, but sometimes you run into a pack on the hunt. I was mostly speaking of green fish.
  10. I though the largest were 250. I have no issues with mine set to about 230 in a 31" boat.
  11. Solving more problems that don't exist.
  12. Mind blowing, and heartbreaking. Thanks for their sacrifice.
  13. Good lord, go fishing guys.
  14. I like this MB bait, but yeah, $13 is prohibitive. Doesn't Boo-Yah make a swim jig with a similar winged head design? Thread a Zappu jig spinner on one, and you may have a slightly less pricey alternative.
  15. I have two straight paddles. The only time I use either of them is when I go out with my partner. She gets the good paddle since I'm mostly pedaling.
  16. That's a cool trick, and not just for toads.
  17. I like the Camino blade design. It's similar to my AT Oracle Carbon: https://www.atpaddles.com/us/paddles/oracle-carbon
  18. Look up "jacking a crankbait." Basically, you put a loose bullet weight in front of the crankbait, just enough weight to make it sink. Let hit the bottom, and fish it like a jerkbait, sort of. It's awkward, but I've caught fish in 40+ FOW. Not my favorite thing to do, but is a creative solution.
  19. 11. An All time favorite of mine. Just picked this album on 180g vinyl. Could have been released last week for all I know.
  20. I've seen this posted at least a dozen times. I'll keep it in mind next time I come across a big bass bedding in a homemade sand paper line testing machine. It has to be one of the worst examples of testing line I've ever seen. It reminds me of the guy that rigorously rubs different lines over a rock to prove mono is the best choice. Actually fish with the stuff, then report back. That's how I've figured out what works for me. Maybe it doesn't work for you? Who knows, I just report what I find. Line choices are very personal, and confidence in the line you choose is a basic cornerstone when fishing. It's more basic than even being able to cast. Lose faith, and your whole game is off. Monetized YouTube videos don't mean anything to me.
