    Lulz, savage.
  2. I thought the point of a bail-less reel was for surfcasting. Sometimes, through no fault of the angler, the force of the cast would cause the bail to flip in the middle of the cast, which could have bad results. I manually flip the bail, and seat the line on the roller by instinct. The bail actually sort of guides my hand to the line, so maybe removing would add a learning curve.
  3. Or use scupper plugs. I fish Lake Ontario, and it isn't much of a problem. Even if the tackle gets wet, it doesn't matter, since I have the right boxes. I don't have to do anything special, like add Zerust tabs or leave it out to dry.
  4. I'm gonna guess that kids not into the sport aren't going to get into an 8 hour tournament feed. They're more likely to get into it watching the edited TV product.
  5. There's no fishing situation that involves this. Braid breaking below it's break strength is almost always due to abrasion, which is all your testing here.
  6. Without incentive to handle the fish with care, it's not gonna happen if it eats up time. That's on the tournament organization.
  7. Need to see the inside. Also, use the direct link. That will let the image show up here.
  8. Wacky, under a float with some split shot.
  9. What do the rules specifically state about it? The answer should be clear.
  10. Efficiency. It's taught me to map out my plans for the day. I may have three or four scenarios come tournament day, with different routes. None of them involve me randomly running up and down the lake. With a kayak, you can easily cover 5-10 miles in a day, but you aren't traveling that far at once. I might make a long run from the launch, then aork my way back. Or, I might do a circuit from the launch. Same goes with the big boat.
  11. Do you have a livewell? What is the second attached to? Pics?
  12. Yes, it is for passively and actively filling the livewell. The livewell drain, if it exists, would also be above water level.
  13. I fish from a kayak. How is everything getting wet? The only reason any of my boxes in the crate would get wet was if it was raining. At any rate, I don't have to let mine sit out and dry. I just bring the crate in, and everything is fine. The Hydroflow boxes eliminate the extra step.
  14. I usually pick whatever I feel like. I like darker colors most of the time. I might dip the tail in JJ's chartreuse.
  15. It's simple if you research the product you want to use. I have MarineMat on my Hobie Compass. Here's their product spiel. Main thing is it resists stains and UV damage, easy to clean, color doesn't fade, and it's a comfortable non slip surface. I bet you could call SeaDek or MarineMat and they'd quote you a price on a roll. There's even DIY instructions on SeaDek's site: http://www.seadek.com/blog/photos-diy/
  16. If the hole is below the water line, then you do not want to use that for a bilge pump. Water pumped from the bilge should exit above water level. Otherwise, the boat will sink.
  17. I wouldn't bother with a lake that experienced 90% turnover. It's much easier to catch fish where there is a healthy population.
  18. Funny, I went with a lefty. It was a mid line Daiwa for around $40. It had some fancy features, like a flipping switch and you could turn off anti reverse to back reel if you wanted. That reel lasted at least 30 years before I sold it. I bought it at B-E, coincidentally.
  19. Go to a store and try both. Buy the one you like better.
  20. Lake turnover would not cause 90% mortality rates. Something is drastically wrong for that to happen.
  21. I am 100% using Plano Hydrflow boxes, and since I switched, all my rust issue disappeared.
  22. You wont have room for a huge, heavy, aerated cooler in a kayak. I don't like fish baskets at all. No matter what, if there's fish in there, they create drag, and you'd still have to buy ice and a cooler to transport the fish home. Seems like on extra step. The best option for me is a flexible cooler. I'm using one made for my Hobie Compass, but any decent soft sided cooler will do. Buying ice isn't a big deal, since I stop at a convenience store before just about every trip for snacks and drinks. Ice also keeps them as fresh as possible on the ride home, and you'd need to buy some if you use a basket.
  23. We had freezing rain this morning. Temps will be at their highest at midnight, in the 50s. Then back into the teens. It's crazay!
