  2. I only ever used an AquaView ice fishing on Oneida. It was pretty cool, but that's about all I can see any use for around here. Most waters aren't clear enough to see much.
  3. It's not marketing if the spool diameter is smaller than reels made in the past (many are). Then ratio has to increase to get equivalent IPT. I do agree there is a lot of "More:1 is better because it's faster" marketing is out there. I've often wondered why they don't start using wider, lower profile spools, with higher gear ratios so that the amount of line out has less effect on IPT.
  4. The drag would slip before the internals gave in. That's the purpose of drag. At 25 lbs., most rods would snap anyway. The only time I've seen a reel detonate is when there was some sort of user error or abuse, where the reel wasn't operated normally, or a manufacturing defect. Usually it's someone engaging the spool while a fish is running, or accidentally pressing the spool release when fighting a fish. This can and will strip a pinion gear.
  5. You move the fish with the rod, not the reel. Any place you need to pick up line quickly will work.
  6. I have a 1000 yard spook direct from Seaguar that was spoiled on their new spooling machine. I’ll take a look for it and try to get a pic to compare.
  7. I was referencing a couple of the "catch phrases" I detest. Keep crushing it in 2018.
  8. Ricos were my go to before the Popmax. For what ever reason, they get bit more than others. I'm not the only one, either. Lots of locals throw them as well.
  9. "Wind knots" are almost always from line twist. Yes, braid can become twisted. The solution is the same for any line, troll out a cast or more worth, and reel in using pressure with your fingers.
  10. You'll enjoy throwing an unweighted senko on a mf or mxf Avid over a mh power rod.
  11. Click the KastKing link to the right. There's a few nice options there. Look for coupons as well. There's some in the Latest Sale Thread.
  12. That's new meaning to "cool, dry storage!"
  13. The head designs are unique, though I'm not sure what problem it solves. I like the hooks they're using, but at $6 to $9 a jig, I demand wire tied skirts and options for living rubber.
  14. I agree, I use three different rods for the three baits you mentioned. Frog: 7'+ H/XFast with heavy braid Buzzbaits 7'+ MH/XF 30# Tuf-LineSupercast Whopper Plopper 8' XH/fast with 20# copoly.
  15. Larger than three inches is not less than three inches. As long as it's in block letters and in a contrasting color, it complies.
  16. USCG Rules: The manner in which numbers are to be displayed on vessels is prescribed under Title 33 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.27. The basic tenets of the regulation are, the numbers must 1) be painted on or permanently attached to both sides of the forward half of the vessel, 2) be in plain vertical block characters of not less than 3 inches in height, 3) contrast with the color of the background and be distinctly visible and legible, 4) have spaces or hyphens that are equal in width to a letter or number other than "I" or "1" between the letter and number groupings, and 5) read from left to right.
  17. Based on the flow, that sounds like a smaller trib. I know just this week, a buddy up in Cleveland had to abandon the smaller tribs he prefers to fish the big river, which was the only thing open. The good news is, everything is either steady fishing or on fire. Good luck and get some chrome!
  18. This is probably your best guide for maintenance: http://fish.shimano.com/content/dam/shimanosnaffish/shimano/support/maintenance-tips/Maintenance Tips- Baitcasting Reels.pdf Beginners, or those not mechanically inclined can stick to the 1st page. Anyone with the slightest mechanical inclination can continue further to page two. If you're really good, you can do a total break down of the reel, degrase all parts, soak bearings in acetone, dry, reassemble, greasing and oiling parts as you go. It helps to break it down into sub-assemblies like shown below.
  19. Exactly. I have way less bite offs on moving baits. Set the hook on a jig or T-rigged worm, and yer done. BTW, if anyone can figure out how to make braid scissors out of pike teeth and zebra mussels, they could make a million bucks.
  20. Nice musky! I have a theory about toothies and light line. That 12# leader is actually strong enough to withstand the fish without breaking simply because the drag is set light enough that it never gets pulled hard enough to break. My PB northern (42" 16 lb.) was caught on straight 10# mono line, and the crank bait was fully inside the fish's mouth, where the line was rubbing the teeth and facial scales. My friend has been sticking monster pickerel past few weeks using 10# braid and a 4# shock leader of fluoro, and has been having almost no break offs.
  21. Hi

As long as your a registered non profit, it's fine. We're all about grass roots, local, weekend club stuff. It's the guys posting about large state, regional, and national for profit events that are forbidden. Welcome Aboard!
  22. True statement. My good friend has owned a music store for two decades. Two things of note: 1. Hooking into local school districts with instrument rentals and private lessons generates a ton of revenue. 2. Online sales account for more than half sales these days. It's a bulky process, and the interwebz attracts some kooks, but he's been able to move items that he'd otherwise not have much of a market for, locally. My local skateshop owner echoes point #2 as well. I'm amazed at the turnover in his limited run t-shirts and hoodies. If you see something you like, you better grab it, because it'll be gone in a couple weeks.
