Rod Overboard!!
Ugh, that happened to me years ago, fishing as a co in a tournament.

Any bank anglers use Deeper Pro sonar fish finder?
There's an attachment that lets you use it on a kayak or canoe. I liked my test drive, because it being located up front, I could fish in the cone easier.

I did install it last night, after digging out the 60 year old American Standard. And, my queen did buy me dinner, for putting in her new throne.

Do I need a Med Moderate Action Casting Rod?
The whole moderate action to keep trebles from ripping out is well over played on the internets. I feel the moderate action aids in better bait action after deflection when using deeper divers. In the case of shallow cranks, like square bills, or for traps, I like a fast action. This so I can recover and react quick to when the bait hits weeds or wood. In other words, you'll be fine. Now, do I think you need a true med-mod? Absolutely. One of my favorite sticks for tossing lighter, diving cranks is a 7' MM stick. But for what you listed, you got it right.

My First 10lb Bass!
That thing's lower jaw is as thick as rope.

Possible new PA state record released
For this one, they estimated based off a photograph. I can't say whether it's 3 lbs. or 6 lbs., but it isn't 9 lbs. I've heard so many shore anglers talk about "ten pounders" they caught. Happens at nearly every spot I frequent. One time I hear a guy on his phone screaming he caught a ten pounder. The fish is on a rope. When he gets off the phone, he starts bragging to anyone that passes. I told him nice bass, but it's not 10. He's like, it has to be. Pull out my scale, and it's barely over three. Told him it's a great fish for the spot. Probably ruined his summer. Showed him the picture below, and asked him how big he thought it was. He said that has to be a ten pounder. The scale was waffling at the 5 lb. mark.

Possible new PA state record released
Seriously? Sorry, nice fish, not remotely close to 9 lbs. or 25". Any pics of it on a bump board?

Doubts with spinning reel adquisiton
I use straight fluoro on both 2500 and 3000 size, and I don't notice a difference. The diameter is the same when the spool is properly filled. Not sure how a deeper spool would aid in line management. I forgot about this, good point. I have custom knobs, so I forget about this.

Orange smallie?
Not too common outside the lab. I know of only one case where it happened, and it was when stocking a lake. A "meanmouth" is a smallie father and largemouth female. The term was coined by a biologist observing the fish in controlled waters (lab pond) attacking humans and a dog. Spots and smallies are fairly common. I don't know why people call those "meanmouth" since that's a totally different fish.

Need a Norman Crank expert assist
I have four Bandit Rack-its, and the colors are nice, and they all work well, and I've caught a few nice fall smallies on them. These are the only Bandit bait I own, though. I can't comment on the rest of the line, but I can see issues during the turnover, but to intentionally ruin a product? That's the dumbest business plan I've heard.

A question about thermoclines and fall turnover
They definitely do turnover. Surface temps on Ontario can range from 75° down to frozen, though it never totally freezes over, like Erie.

A question about thermoclines and fall turnover
According to what we were taught in college (many, many years ago, lol) yes. Anything that results in the disruption of a thermocline, and homogenizing the water temp would be a turnover event. Water temps can fluctuate greatly due to weather events. A north win, beating the south shore of Lake Ontario can result in the arrival of many small mouth at the outlets and mouths of small bays. Warm water gets stacked up, and the commotion stirs up invertebrates, which brings bait fish, and likewise, predators. I've used this to my advantage to place well in many tournaments on these bays, when the Lake was off limits due to weather. The opposite can be true when a typical westerly wind (like shown in the picture) once it calms down, water temps are way down, due to the mixing, and fishing can be super tough, if not impossible due to all the debris in the water. Like Tom noted, water doesn't have to 39° for a thermocline to develop, or collapse. There just needs to be enough depth and stratification.

NY Salmon River- What gear?
I would stop in at Fat Nancy's or All Season's and get a proper egg sac rod. Usually around 9-12' long, medium power, moderate action. You don't have to spend a ton - you'll know when you have one on! Shimano Convergence are a decent rod for not much cash. There's no stopping even a 10lb. king's initial run, so make sure the reel you use has a good drag. You can get away with a typical 7' medium bass rod, but you'll lose some. Personally, I have a 15' centrepin setup for salmon. That's probably way too much investment for a weekend trip. I generally use 12# main and shot line, and a 10# fluoro leader. Some guys are using braid, as long as the temps are above freezing. Above all, have fun, and good luck!.

A question about thermoclines and fall turnover
Turnover can also be a localized event, such as in the case of very windy conditions on a large lake.

Rod Overboard!!
Most are pretty easy. These are a pain. The twitching bar adds a lot of complexity.

Rod Overboard!!
Mine was really dirty, plus, the little brown specs are zebra mussels that started to grow inside the reel.

Rod Overboard!!
I got a G. Loomis and Chronarch back using a Michigan Cricket snagging hook. I like the stringer idea. Needed a thorough cleaning after sitting in the bottom of the lake for a week:

Need a Norman Crank expert assist
Pradco acquired them in Nov. 2015. They operate from Pradco’s Fishing Division in Fort Smith. Sorry you take issue with them. Every company has had to evolve. Not sure where you can buy a nice, well made super deep diver like a DD22 with a great finish for $6.49 that isn't made outside the US. SO far from what I've seen the quality is the same, and they've added new baits. I still hate their speed clips, as is well known here, lol.
